LEDMATRIX TABLE

Designed, programmed and built a side table to light up a studentroom. Circuitry based around a PIC micro controller enables lights tosynchronise with music as well as display any desired pattern inanimation.

SEARCH &RESCUE ROBOT

Tasked to find the best solution to the design of a robot to be used forlocating survivors in disaster situations. Report includes productdesign specification, conceptual design based on functional diagramand some embodiment design where the major modules are chosen.

SMOOTHIE VENDING MACHINE DESIGN (AGED 16)

AS level graphic design project to create an innovative new productto encourage teens to eat healthy snacks. Designed to allow user toselect raw frozen fruits to be dropped into a blending system thenserved. Involved creative use of Pro/Desktop CAD software.

GCSECAMPER CONCEPT (AGED 15)

Graphic Design task to reinvent an existing product for modernmarkets. Chose to design a modern concept of the iconic VWcamper. Extensive use of the limited Pro/Desktop CAD software todesign components, manually rendered images using Photoshop.

TOY CAR

Solid Edge CAD project to design a new toy for children. Chose tocreate a small, simple truck in a classic Land Rover shape that wouldappeal to many boys aged 4+. Developed design for manufactureand basic CAD skills.

WATER PUMP

Group project to design and build an efficient pump that can raise apool of water to a reservoir 3m up in 30 minutes. Our chosen solutionwas a peristaltic pump due to low running speeds, simple design andtherefore high reliability and efficiency. Designed using Solid Edge.

TECHNICAL DRAWING &SKETCHING

Multiple sketching exercises of existing products over first semesterof university. Gained ability to draw orthographic / 3D / explodeddiagrams quickly and clearly.

FORWARD /REVERSE GEARBOX DESIGN

First year mechanical university project to hand-draw a reversiblegearbox of own design and configuration. Tested mechanicalproblem solving skills, technical drawing skills using cross-sectionsand design for manufacturability using standardised parts.

LEDMICRO CONTROLLER BASED WATCH

Currently producing prototype watch of own design. Product isdesigned for manufacture should I decide to sell. Testing skills inPCB design and micro controller programming as well as practicalskills such as soldering and case manufacture using a lathe.

TRAFFIC LIGHT CIRCUIT DESIGN

First year university project to design reliable circuitry for timed trafficlights. Involved fundamental electrical circuit engineering using basicgates and flip-flops. Circuits made using OrCAD PSpice design andsimulation software.

REBUILD OF CLASSIC VWCAMPER

Completely restored the shell and rebuilt the engine of a 73 VW bus.Practical experience gained from replacing cylinder heads / pistons /carburettors etc. as well as integrating modern electronics such as afold-out TV and a surround sound speaker system.

SHAFT FOR HEAVY DUTY WINCH

Second year project to design a shaft and bearing assembly formounting heavy duty winch drums. Gained experience in stressconcentration analysis, material / component selection anddimensioning / tolerancing.

ROCK BREAKER

Second year university project to design a portable device capable ofexerting enough force to split rock with minimal vibration in a small,pre-drilled hole. Experience in working to a solution based on a tightspecification.
