Defending Palestine at OIC Summit, Jokowi Suggests 6 Steps

Indonesian President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) suggested six moves in defending Pales-tine at the extraordinary sum-mit of Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in Istanbul, Turkey, on Wednesday (12/13) while delivering his speech.

President Jokowi was firm-ly against US President Do nald Trump’s unilateral decision to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.

“The recognition is un-acceptable. Once again, Pre-sident Trump’s recognition is unacceptable and must be strongly condemned,” he said.

He called on all OIC coun-tries to unite and set aside any differences to defend the Pales-tine.

“The issue of Palestine should bring us back together.

We rounded up the voice and unity to defend the Palestine,” said the Indonesian leader.

According to him, President Trump’s decision to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Is-rael not only hurt Muslims, but also hurts the sense of justice of mankind.

“The hope for independence is shunned by this very un-just decision. The decision di-minishes the hope of a lasting peace. Therefore, the decision must be rejected,” said Jokowi.

President Jokowi further said the US unilateral decision also violates various UN Se-curity Council Resolutions re-lated to Palestine. Therefore, Jokowi re-affirmed his rejec-tion.

“The people of Indonesia and I believe the people of OIC

countries expect much from this summit. They hope that this summit can produce opti-mal and actionable results; the results whose impact can be felt for the future of Palestine,” he said.

He then suggested six moves to be taken by the OIC member countries.

“First, the OIC must re-ject the unilateral recogni-tion. Two-state solution is the only solution with East Jerusa-lem as the capital of Palestine,” said President Jokowi.

Second, he calls on all coun-tries who have embassy in Tel Aviv, Israel, to not follow the US decision by moving it to Jeru-salem.

“Third, the OIC must per-suade the countries have yet to recognize Palestinian indepen-

dence to do so immediately,” he said.

Fourth, the OIC member countries who have relations with Israel should take di-plomatic steps. “Including the possibility of reviewing the re-lations with Israel in accor-dance with various OIC Reso-lutions,” the president added.

“Fifth, the OIC members should take steps together to increase humanitarian aids, improve the capacity and eco-nomic cooperation with the Palestinians,” Jokowi said.

Sixth, the president said the OIC become should be-come a motor for the movement in va rious international and multila teral forums to sup-port the Palestinians, includ-ing in the UN Security Council and the UN General Assembly.

Jokowi Expects Komodo Bond to Attract Foreign Investors to Invest in RI

Jokowi Calls on Millennial Generation to Grab US$130 M Investment Opportunities

State-owned highway company PT Jasa Marga (Persero) listed its first global bond with nominal in rupiah called the Komodo Bond on the London Stock Exchange on Wednesday (12/13). This is one of the efforts to find new funding sources to fi-nance the infrastructure de-velopment in Indonesia.

PT Jasa Marga becomes the first Indonesian state-owned enterprise (SOE) who has listed its bond, worth Rp4 trillion, on the interna-tional securities market.

“The bond issuance adds to the liquidity access. This also proves that the interna-tional investors have a high interest in investing in Indo-nesia,” said President Jokowi after attending the OIC

President Joko Widodo has called on the young or millen-nial generation to take advan-tage of the current technolog-ical and market development. According to Jokowi, the in-vestments in the digital econ-omy in the next five years will reach US$130 billion or approximately Rp1.75 tril-lion (with exchange rate at Rp13.500 per US dollar).

“In the next five years there are US$130 billion in-vestment opportunities in our country (digital econo-my). It’s huge, how much in rupiah? These opportuni-ties should be taken as soon as possible,” Jokowi said in Sabuga, Bandung, on Mon-day (12/18).

He further said that time has changed, and the digital economy now becomes a po-tential that must be utilized as much as possible.

Currently a company is no longer measured only from the number of employees, of-fice building and other fixed assets, but also its brand va-lue.

Jokowi then compared his furniture business that he

Jokowi Shows Off First Wind Power Plant in RI

President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) continues encourag-ing the use of new renewable energy, given the fossil energy reserves are running out. Be-sides, the carbon emission of fossil energy is also too high.

Various power plants us-ing renewable energy sourc-es such as geothermal, solar, and wind continue to be built by the government.

Regarding the wind po wer generation, President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has proud-ly showed off the giant project of the first Wind Power Plant (PLTB) in Indonesia.

In his official Facebook ac-count, Jokowi said that Indo-nesia is one of few countries in Asia who have a wind farm aside of Japan, China and Korea.

President Jokowi’s full writing on Saturday (12/2) is as follows:

gigantic: 80 meters high. On the tip of the steel pole, a large pro-peller is mounted. Its diameter is 57 meters, so the total height reaches 137 meters.

Yes, they are the gigantic wind turbines of the first Wind Power Plant (PLTB) in Indonesia. On the hills, 30 wind turbines are being installed with a capacity of 2.5 megawatt each or 75 MW in total.

Sidrap mountainous area has a good wind potential with an es-timated speed of about seven me-ters per second that is suitable to drive the propellers of the tur-bines.

Built since April 2016 by PT UPC Sidrap Bayu Energi with an investment of US$150 mil-lion, the PLTB will be operat-ed commercially next year. The Sidrap PLTB is capable to supply the electricity to approximate-ly 80,000 households of 900 VA customers.

In addition to Sidrap PLTB, we are also developing Jenepon-to PLTB, still in South Sulawesi, which involves an investor from Denmark. The potential of wind energy in this country is about 60.6 GW. The government en-courages the use of renewable energy sources of water, geother-mal, and wind. (LPT/TPP)

Summit in Istanbul, Turkey, on Thursday (12/14).

Jokowi said he hoped the Ko-modo Bond will attract the for-eign investors to invest in Indo-nesia. Thus, the infrastructure development can be accele rated, while creating more employ-ment in Indonesia and intro-duce rupiah currency to the in-ternational investors.

“Besides it also opens the ac-cess to the new funding sourc-es to finance the infrastructure development,” he said.

“They have a brand value of billions. Mine I think is less than Rp30 billion. This is an oppor-tunity for the young people to plunge into the digital economy, because it provides a great op-portunity,” he said.

Citing the World Bank, Jokowi added, a country will have a good economic condition if four percent of the population are en-trepreneurs. Currently, Indone-sia now has only 3.3 percent en-trepreneurs.

“A very big opportunity is wide open here, but using in a new way not old school like I used to do,” said the former mayor of Solo.

Jokowi also said that starting a business is not easy. Failure always overshadows every entre-preneur. However, he urged the younger generation to not give up easily.

“The most important thing is first, change the paradigm after graduating from college. Don’t all of you have a dream to become an employee,” he added.(TPP)

Meeting 60 Percent of World Demand, Industry Minister Appreciates Barbie Producer in Indonesia

Industrial Sector Absorbs 1.5 Million Manpower in 2017

Industry Minister Air-langga Hartarto has appreciated PT Mat-tel Indonesia (PTMI) for its success in develop-ing the business for 25 years operation in Indo-nesia.

Minister Airlangga Hartarto remarked the statement while giving a speech on the achieve-ment of PT Mattel Indo-nesia during the event of 25th Anniversary of PTMI in Cikarang, West Java, on Monday (12/4).

“The success is cer-tainly achieved by stra-tegic steps in product in-novation following the market development, the hard works of all direc-tors and employees, the improvement of prod-uct quality and the com-mitment to become the leading producer in the world,” said the minister.

Airlangga added that he also appreciat-ed PTMI in developing the toy industry in In-donesia which has ab-sorbed 10,000 workers. “I am proud that Indo-nesia can become the

The industry in In-donesia has become the largest employ-ment sector in Indone-sia. Throughout 2017, the industrial sector has employed 1.5 mil-lion workers.

According to Indus-try Minister Airlangga Hartarto, the growth of industry this year is quite encouraging. The highest growth oc-curred in five sectors. The first is the industry of basic metal, followed by food and beverages, chemicals and phar-maceuticals, machin-ery and equipment, and transportation.

“The highest growth is the base metal indus-try at 10.6%, followed by food and beverag-es at 9.49%, chemicals and pharmaceuticals at about 8%, machin-ery and equipment at 6.45%, and transporta-tion at 5.63%,” said Air-langga at the National Seminar Industry Out-look 2018, Jakarta, on

The performance of the na-tional manufacturing industry still showed a positive movement in November 2017, driven by in-creased demand from domestic and overseas markets.

The improved condition was seen in the rise of purchasing managers’ index (PMI) to 50.4 in November from 50.1 in October.

The PMI figure was released by Nikkei and Markit after sur-veying some purchasing manag-ers at Indonesian manufacturing companies. A PMI above 50 indi-cates that the manufacturing is expanding, while below 50 sug-gests the manufacturing is in re-cession.

“The greater opportunities from both domestic and export markets need to be optimally uti-lized by the domestic industry players to maintain the momen-

tum of this getting better growth,” said Industry Minister Airlangga Hartarto in a written statement on Sunday (12/10).

He said the government is building various infrastructure facilities and designing regula-tions which will certainly have a positive impact on the business development and the welfare of the society.

“Mutual synergy among the stakeholders is needed to gene-rate inclusive and highly compe-titive industrial development,” Airlangga said.

To achieve the target of nation-al industrial growth, the Industry Ministry has been running six priority programs.

The programs are strengthen-ing the human resource compe-tences through vocational educa-tion that links and matches with

the SMEs and industry, improving the industrial structure through the strengthening of the value chain, the development of export-oriented labor-intensive industries, the development of small- and me-dium-scale industries with digital platforms, the development of na-tural resource-based industries, and the development of industrial estates.

“We continue to focus on encour-aging the development of nation-al industries to be more competi-tive in the global arena,” Airlangga said.

According to him, the industri-al sector provides benefits to the national economy through the in-crease of added value of the domes-tic raw materials, the absorption of local labors, and the foreign ex-change earnings. It also plays an important role as the largest con-tributor to the economic growth in Indonesia.

The Central Bureau of Statis-tics (BPS) reported the non-oil/gas manufacturing industry still gave the largest contribution to the na-tional Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in the third quarter of 2017, reaching 17.76%.

The contribution is higher than other sectors. Meanwhile, the growth of non-oil/gas manufactur-ing industry in the third quarter of 2017 reached 5.49% or above the economic growth of 5.06%.

The exports of non-oil/gas pro-cessing industry in October 2017 reached US$13.67 billion, up 4.22% compared to September 2017. In comparison with the non-oil/gas exports in October 2016, it increased 17%.

The non-oil/gas exports from January-October 2017 rose 14.32 percent compared to the same peri-od in 2016. The main export desti-nations were China, United States, Japan and European Union. (DTK/TPP)

world’s largest producer of Barbie dolls for sup-plying 60% of the de-mand worldwide.”

Meanwhile, Roy Tan-dean as Vice President of PT Matell Indonesia said the toy industry is still promising in the fu-ture. He also said the toy business has a special large segment of market.

“The Barbie business is still good right now. A lot of kids love the dolls,” Roy said.

According to him, the world market share of toys, especially dolls and toy cars, is still domi-nated by Mattel Inc. as much as 50%.

PT Mattel Indonesia is currently only target-ing the export market, as 100% of the products manufactured in Indo-nesia are sold to Ameri-ca, Europe and Asia.

PT Mattel Indone-sia, known as Barbie producer, will increase the production of Hot Wheels (toy cars) to 150 million pcs in 2018 from currently 50 million pcs. (IND/TPP)

Monday (12/11).He also said that

the contribution of in-dustrial sector to the Gross Domestic Prod-uct (PBD) is higher, re-lated to the increased employment.

“If we look at the contribution of the in-dustry in the struc-ture of GDP, it is still the largest contribu-tor. If combined with its derivatives, the con-tribution is more than 30%. In terms of em-ployment, there is also an increase to almost 1.5 million workers this year,” he added.

Airlangga further said that the growth of non-oil and gas indus-try in 2018 is project-ed to reach 5.67%. The growth will be support-ed by the industries of basic metal, food and beverages, transpor-tation, machinery and equipment, as well as chemicals, pharmaceu-ticals and electronics. (DTK/TPP)

World Bank: Strong-er Investment and Ex-port Growth Continue to Strengthen Indonesia’s Economy. The Indonesian economy continued to ex-pand at a solid pace dur-ing the third quarter of 2017 helped by commodity tail-winds and stronger domes-tic and external demand, ac-cording to the World Bank’s December 2017 Indonesia Economic Quarterly.

Real GDP growth in-creased from 5.0 percent in the second quarter to 5.1 percent in the third quarter of 2017. Investment growth rose to its highest level in

According to Imam, the Mukti Wibawa Stadium is good already, so it only needs the right mainte-nance. The golf facilities are also considered ade-quate.

Real GDP growth is pro-jected at 5.1 percent for 2017, accelerating to 5.3 percent in 2018 driven by continued strong investment growth, further recovery in con-sumption, and an increase in government spending.

Effective government spending is also crucial to economic development. More than half of total go-vernment spending across all levels of government in Indonesia is conducted by sub-national governments, with 38 percent managed by district governments and 15 percent by provinces. This substantial allocation of resources to local govern-ments, a product of Indone-sia’s decentralization policy since the early 2000s, re-flects the primary responsi-bilities of local governments to deliver basic services, no-tably health, education and local infrastructure.

“Improving service de-livery by local governments requires working on three i’s: more incentives for bet-ter performance in spend-ing the resources the cen-tral government transfers to districts; more information for citizens and the central government to better mo-nitor local government per-formance, and more inter-action between citizens and businesses and their local governments and service providers to demand better quality,”said Frederico Gil Sander, Lead Economist for the World Bank in Indone-sia.

Leaving Off Dollar, RI, Malaysia, Thailand Use Local Money for Transactions

Bank Indonesia (BI), Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM), and Bank of Thailand (BoT) have agreed on the local currency settlement framework for the trade transactions among the three countries. The launch of this cooperation is a follow-up to the signing of a bilateral me-morandum of understanding between the central banks of the three neighboring countries.

The three central banks agreed to work together in en-couraging bilateral trades and investments using the local cur-rency settlement framework.

“Malaysia and Thailand are earlier than us. It is better for us to do this (too). So, the ex-port-import transactions in In-donesia will be more diverse, the cost will be more efficient and certainly this will be deep-ening the Indonesian market,” said BI Governor Agus DW. Mar-towardojo, at his office, Jakarta,

on Monday (12/11).With this partnership, Agus

estimated that the use of local currency will double by 2020. “We are targeting within three to five years the number will have doubled. We will monitor and evaluate it,” Agus added.

He also said the cooperation will make the rupiah more sta-ble. Currently almost 94% of In-donesia’s exports are carried out using the United States dollar, while the imports using US dol-lars reach 78%. By diversifying the use of currency in the trans-actions, it is expected to help stabilize the rupiah exchange rate.

“The transactions between two countries do not need a third currency. BI sees the cur-rent stability of the financial system will be maintained in the future. It must start now to make the future of Indonesia and the countries in Asia more

stable,” he said.Based on the BI data, the ave-

rage annual trade between In-donesia and Malaysia during 2010-2016 reached US$19.5 bil-lion. The figure consists of ex-ports at US$9.3 billion and im-ports at US$10.2 billion. The average annual trade between Indonesia and Thailand reached US$15 billion consisting of ex-ports at US$5.5 billion and im-ports at US$8.5 billion.

To facilitate the cooperation, the three central banks have ap-pointed several banks deemed to meet the qualification criteria to facilitate the bilateral trans-actions. The criteria are robust and sound in each country, hav-ing experiences in facilitating trades between two countries involved in the transaction, hav-ing business relationships with banks in both countries, and having a broad customer base and branch offices in the coun-

The IC-CEPA is the first bilateral free trade agreement between Indone-sia and a country in Latin America.

The HPI and Amerop Di-rectorate Generals play an active role in the 6-round IC-CEPA negotiations since 2014. The Directorate Ge-neral of HPI even served as lead negotiator on the Working Group on Legal and Institutional Issues.

The signing of IC-CEPA is a manifestation of a bi-lateral agreement between the Indonesian president and the president of Chile during the visit of Chile’s President Michele Bache-let to Indonesia on May 12, 2017 to complete the IC-CEPA negotiations in 2017.

Construction of Serang-Panimbang Toll Road

to Start in 2018, Land Acquisition to be Paid Soon

The construction of the 83.6 kilometer Serang - Panimbang toll road, included in the Nation-al Strategic Projects (PSN) to ac-cess the KEK Tanjung Lesung in Banten, will begin in January 2018 without a groundbreaking ceremony.

Head of the Regional Develop-ment Planning Board (Bappeda) of Banten Province, Hudaya Latucosina, said that previous-ly the groundbreaking ceremony was planned to be held in October 2017 by President Joko Widodo, but failed due to various things.

According to Hudaya, the cons truction of Serang-Pa-nimbang toll road will be start-ed in January 2018 without any groundbreaking ceremony. “The president will be too busy in that month, so PT Wika as the con-structor has decided to drop the ceremony.”

To building the toll road, 785 hectares of land areas are need-ed, spreading in 50 villages, 14 districts and four regencies/cities.

The appraisal team were ne-gotiating the land price with the people in three districts of Bojong, Picung and Sindangresmi in Pan-deglang regency in the third week of December.

Ibrahim Hasan from the Mi-nistry of Public Works and Pub-lic Housing (PUPR) responsible for the construction of Serang-Panimbang toll road said in Pan-deglang, “We have a meeting with the residents in three districts of Bojong, Picung and Sindang-resmi. The meeting is held on Wednesday in Sindangresmi, on Friday in Bojong and on Thurs-day in Picung. So, in these three days,” he said on Tuesday (19/12).

He added the land acquisition process in the three districts will be completed this month. The land area in Pandeglang for the toll road reaches 2,500 hectares, stretching from Bojong to Panim-bang.

“The width of the toll road will be 20 meters, divided into two op-posite lanes with 10 meters wide

each. The appraisal team has the standard price, but the final price will come out after the negotia-tion,” Ibrahim said.

The price, according to him, might be different from one plot to another depending on the lo-cation. “Once the land plots have been paid, most likely in early January 2018, the construction can begin, especially in Bojong and Picung.”

Meanwhile, Head of Pandeg-lang Land Agency, Rusli Yakob said that the land acquisition for the construction of Serang-Pa-

PT Jasa Marga (Perse-ro) has signed the Toll Road Concession Agreement (PPJT) for the Jakarta-Cikampek II south section. President Di-rector of PT Jasa Marga, Desi Arryani, said the construction of the new toll road will begin in the middle of next year.

“Next year we will start the construction, in the second semester,” she said on Mon-day (12/18).

Desi added that the cons-truction can only be done next year because the land acqui-sition is still underway and would need about six months to complete.

“The land acquisition has not finished yet. If the land acquisition has reached at least 25%, then the construc-tion can be started,” she add-ed.

nimbang toll road is finalizing. “They have already agreed to sell their land plots. Once the price agreed, we will get the land certi-ficates,” he said.

If the certificate is valid and there is no dispute over it, then the PUPR Ministry will pay the land. The payment will be not in cash, but transfer to their bank accounts.

“I and the members of the ap-praisal team have to work togeth-er closely to avoid any mistake in the payment of the land,” Rusli said. (TPP)

The toll road of Jakarta-Ci-kampek II south section con-nect Jatiasih, Cipularang, and Sadang with the length of 64 kilometers. It is longer than the Jakarta-Cikampek elevat-ed toll road which is currently under construction.

The Jakarta-Cikampek II toll road south section is lo-cated on the south side of the Jakarta-Cikampek toll road. This project is valued at Rp14.6 trillion. The construction will be done by PT Jasa Marga Ja-pek Selatan whose sharehold-ers are PT Jasa Marga and PT Wira Nusantara Bumi.

“While waiting for the land acquisition complete, we are also holding the tender for the construction needs, so that once the land is ready, the construction can be started right away,” Desi said. (TPP)

Watching Construction Activities at HI Roundabout MRT Station

PT Mass Rapid Transit Ja-karta (MRT Jakarta) continues to work maximally to complete the MRT project on time. MRT Jakarta is currently working on the construction of MRT corridor 1 of South - North from Lebak Bulus to HI Round-about. The 16 kilometers sub-way will have 13 stations con-sisting of 7 elevated stations and 6 underground stations.

In general, the development progress of MRT phase 1 has reached 86.17 percent per No-vember 26, 2017. From that percentage, the construction progress of the overpass from Lebak Bulus to Senayan has

reached 78.37 percent while for the underground chan-nel from Senayan to HI round-about has reached 93.95 per-cent. MRT Jakarta has set a target of construction progress to reach 90 to 91 percent by the end of 2017.

On Thursday (12/7), KAO-RI had the opportunity to see first hand the progress of cons-truction at one of the under-ground stations being built by MRT Jakarta. The station, the HI Roundabout, is the north-ernmost station in the South-North subway of phase 1.

When KAORI was visiting the HI Roundabout Station,

the workers were busy doing various construction jobs. In general, the works being done were the installation of tiles, electrical networks and the railway.

On the 1st floor of HI Round-about Station the works in-cluded the installation of tiles, air ducts and electrical net-works. This floor will become a commercial and ticketing area. Some areas on the 1st floor have been tiled and completed with guiding blocks to help the visually impaired passengers. point on a wall there was a sign reads “PI Entrance”. Later, on the wall there will be a door to directly access the Plaza Indo-nesia from the HI Roundabout Station.

On the 2nd floor of HI Round-about Station, the works be-ing done were not too different. This floor is a platform area for up and down of the passengers. The platform has been shaped and was being tiled. Meantime the installation of track and railroad switch was also being worked on. On the south side of the station there will a rail-road switch to move the train to the other track. (KRN/TPP)

The progress of Light Rail Transit (LRT) development in Palembang has reached 76% and is ready to operate in June 2018. However, there will be only 5 out of 13 sta-tions ready to operate and serve the passengers by then.

Nevertheless, when ins-pecting the construction site, Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi said he hoped all the stations would be able to operate simultaneously to provide maximum services to the people of South Sumatra.

“Hopefully all the 13 sta-tions will operate simultane-ously, but we will see wheth-er it can be done or not,” said Minister Budi Karya while re-viewing the development prog-ress of LRT Palembang Zone I on Sunday night (12/10).

According to the minis-ter, the current development progress of LRT Palembang has reached 76% but the ins-tallation of steel box gird-er has been finished 100%. Meantime the works for the railway has reached 50% of the total of 47 kilometers.

Director General of Fis-cal Balance Budiarso Teguh Widodo said the grant is in-tended to strengthen the f lood prevention plan in the re-gions.

Aher said, for the toll road, to be integrated with the Ci-pali interchange highway, will takes up approximately three kilometers of land. This toll road will make it easier to ac-cess the BIJB Kertajati from the Cipali highway.

The land acquisition, ac-cording to him, has been com-pleted in 2017 using the West Java Provincial state budget (APBD). Meanwhile the cons-truction of the roads will be fi-nanced by the national state budget (APBN).

Director of PT BIJB Vir-da Dimas Ekaputra said the toll road and regular road will meet in the location adjacent to the airport terminal. Vir-da said he hoped, after be-ing inspected by Governor Aher, the process of land ac-quisition and the procurement of goods for the construction can be completed before the ope ration of BIJB. “Hopeful-ly after being inspected by the governor, the process of land acquisition and the construc-tion can be completed before the operation of this airport,” he said.

TOURISM

Once Kertajati Airport Operational, West Java Will Attract 50 Million Tourists

The Government of West Java is optimistic the num-ber of tourists will increase significantly after the Kerta-jati West Java Airport (BIJB) operational in 2018. Accord-ing to West Java Tourism and Culture Office, 50 million of foreign and domestic tour-ists will visit West Java after-ward.

Head of West Java Tourism and Culture Office Ida Hern-ida said the airport, locat-ed in Kertajati District, Maja-lengka Regency, will provide a new access for the domes-tic and foreign tourists. “Our target is in the year 2018, we will bring in 48 million do-mestic tourists, I believe will be more, and more than one million foreign tourists,” said Ida Hernida in Bandung, on Friday (12/15).

Ida further said that the figures were not overesti-mated, because until No-vember 2017, the number of tourists coming to West Java had reached 46 million. This number has already reached the target for 2017. As for the foreign tourists, unfortunate-ly it is still under one million until early this December.

“For foreign tourists, the number only reached 600,000 per No-vember but this must increase in December due to the Christ-mas and New Year holidays,” she added.

According to Ida, tourism is very important to continue to be developed, considering that this sector can become the loco-motive for the economic growth as well as to serve as the main source of state revenue. The data from Bank Indonesia (BI) in 2016 show the tourism con-tribution to the economy in West Java, especially accommoda-tions and restaurants, reached Rp33 trillion. Even the nation-al tourism contributes the sec-ond largest foreign exchange af-ter the oil and gas sector.

“The BIJB will benefit the tourism sector even more. It will surely boost the number of tour-ists, especially from the overseas with the availability of the direct flights,” said Ida.

She added that the potential of West Java which is blessed with beautiful natural land-scapes should be utilized max-imally. “Nowadays who does not want to travel to West Java with its so many natural beauties.” (TPP)

Tourism Minister Arief Yahya Inaugurates Two Homestays in Sigapiton

Tourism Minister Arief Yah-ya has inspected the locations supporting the tourism in Lake Toba, a tourist destina-tion for priority development. After accompanying President Jokowi in inaugurating the Si-langit International Airport Terminal, he went to Sigapi-ton Village, Toba Samosir Re-gency, on the eastern edge of Lake Toba.

The small village has been selected as a pilot project for the Homestay Village Develop-ment by the Ministry of Tour-ism. It was the second visit of the minister to Sigapiton Vil-lage, while the first was held on July 8.

Since October 15, 2017 two units of homestay named “Jabu Na Ture” have been set up. The homestays were built

based on the designs made by participants of the competition of bamboo made Homestay Nu-santara and Homestay Ecopod held by the tourism ministry.

Bamboo is a type of plant that grows quickly in many are as in Indonesia. Bamboo is easy to find, and its mainte-nance is also easy.

The design of the Jabu Na Ture Homestay is inspired by the typical Jabu Bolon, the traditional house of Batak Toba tribe, but with a modifi-cation by using bamboo mate-rial which is cheaper and envi-ronmentally friendly.

The homestay development is funded by the Tourism Mi-nistry to socialize to the com-munity how to maintain the local architectural character-istics (archipelago architec-

ture), and to make the home-stay as one of community tourism businesses. The fur-ther development of the home-stay will be offered to the pri-vate investors.

The two homestays in the Lake Toba area are expected to boost the interest of local peo-ple to designs their homes as homestays so that the village can run the tourism business independently.

Minister Arief Yahya also visited Tomok and had a look at the Sigale-gale Souvenir Market and Cultural Tourism Objects located in front of the distinctive customs houses.

“If you want to be global players then always make sure to use the global standard,” he said while meeting with the Tourism Awareness Group

proposed to get financial assis-tance for renovating 14 home-stays, especially in the interior design. Minister Arief respond-ed positively and said that the Tourism Ministry would dis-burse a fund for renovating 20 homestays no later than De-cember 2017.

Meanwhile, for the revital-ization of buildings and toilets, he will coordinate with relat-ed parties such as PUPR Mi-nistry.

The minister also noticed the involvement of Pelindo in sup-porting tourism in Tomok and said he hoped PokDarWis and the regent would enhance the coordination with other parties to develop tourism for prosper-ing the local people. (TPP)

A cruise ship named Genting Dream belonging to the Genting Cruise Lines stopped by at Sura-baya on Tuesday (12/12). The ship departed from the Port of Singapore and arrived at the Ter-minal Gapura Surya Nusantara Tanjung Perak at 07.45 am.

Carrying 2,561 tourists from a total capacity of 3,352 people, the Genting Dream is the larg-est cruise ship in Southeast Asia that ever stopped by in Indone-sia.

“This is a historic day because it is the largest cruise ship that ever stopped by in Indonesia, es-

pecially Surabaya,” said Dream Cruises President Tatcher Brown in his speech at the Zodiac The-ater.

Brown said the Genting Dream has always been the pio-neer of the cruise ship indus-try in Asia. “Dream Cruises is no stranger to Indonesia. Sever-al branches of our company have visited Indonesia several times to Komodo Island, Anambas Is-lands, Bali, Medan and Jakarta in 2015,” he added.

Brown also said that his com-pany supported Indonesia’s tour-ism by visiting the Port of Tan-

jung Perak, Surabaya, and the Celukan Bawang Port, North Bali. “Indonesia is a butter-fly route, the key of the cruise ship industry in Southeast Asia, spanning from Singapore, Sura-baya, to Bali.”

Once getting off the boat, about a thousand passengers went on a city tour to see the House of Sampoerna, the Hero Monument, and the city parks. Some chose to cross to the Ma-dura Island for a moment.

Most of the 2,561 tourists were Singaporeans (632 people) and Malaysians (314 people). The rest were from various countries in Asia, such as India, Myanmar, Australia, Hong Kong, Philip-pines, China, Mongolia, Sri Lan-ka, and even Indonesia.

The Genting Dream takes the guests for shipping trips from Singapore to some destinations in the Malacca Straits and the Java Sea.

There is the Malacca Strait Cruise Package traveling to Kua-la Lumpur-Penang-Phuket, while the Java Sea package sails to Surabaya and North Bali. Some of the passengers combined the Malacca Strait and the Java Sea packages for a 12 nights trip. (TMP/TPP)

PT Banten West Java (BWJ) as the developer of the Special Eco-nomic Zone (KEK) of Tanjung Lesung granted 62,434 square meters or 6.2 hectares of land to the Pandeglang Regency admin-istration during the event of Tech-nical Guidance and Socialization of Regional Property Management held in the Hotel Mutiara Carita on Monday (12/4) morning.

The land document was hand-ed over by President Director of PT BWJ Poernomo Siswopraseti-jo to Regional Assistant for Pub-lic Administration and People’s Welfare of Pandeglang Regency Undang Suhendar. Besides as a form of cooperation, the grant is also to facilitate the participation of regency in the management of tourism in the region.

Poernomo said that on some of the granted land will be built a road and a landfill in Kam-pung Cikadu, Tanjungjaya Vil-

lage, Panimbang District, cover-ing 36,234 square meters of the land. Meanwhile the other 24,300 square meters of the land is for the development of Cikadu Tour-ism, and the rest of 2,000 square meters will be used for an office building. “This grant is fully our initiative (BWJ). It is expected to make the KEK Tanjung Lesung more attractive to the investors and tourists,” he added.

Poernomo also said the tech-nical development on the granted land is entirely the responsibility of the regency administration, in cooperation with the central go-vernment through the Directorate General of Human Settlements at the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR). “I am op-timistic that early 2019 the KEK Tanjung Lesung will go global, considering the regional develop-ment planning in 2018 has been done well.”

Meanwhile Regional Assis-tant Undang Suhendar said he will soon make the plan on how to manage the granted land in KEK Tanjung Lesung optimally to achieve the goal.

“The goal is to prosper the com-munity around the KEK. They are not a spectator, but a player who should benefit from the ex-isting of the tourist destination,” he said.

Undang added there is no pro-blem for the regional and the cen-tral governments in funding the KEK development as long as the land ownership status is clear. “If a land is built by the government, the land should belong to the go-vernment.”

On the same occasion, Head of Regional Tax Services (BP2D) of Pandeglang Regency Utuy Se-tiadi said the contribution of PT BWJ to the local revenue is quite good. The value reaches Rp200

million per month. “That is the amount of taxes from ho-tels and restaurants only, not to mention the other sectors such as the underground wa-ter retrieval.”

Utuy added he hoped the contribution of PT BWJ will continue to increase along with the increasing number of tourists. “I am sure Pan-deglang people will prosper if KEK Tanjung Lesung contin-ues to grow, especially for the surrounding community.”

Also attending the event were Director of Institute of Leadership of Indonesia Uni-versity (UI) Kamarudin, Presi-dent Director of PT Paramount Kristian, Head of Regional Fi-nance and Asset Management Agency (BPKAD) of Pandeg-lang Muslim Taufiq, and other officials of Pandeglang Regen-cy. (RDB/TPP)

rate will be back to normal, which is Rp7 million per 15 minutes,” Ari added.

The route for Wonder-ful Joy Flight starts from Aldiron Helispot Pancoran, flying to the north over the Ancol and Old Town, then heading west towards the House of Representatives (DPR) Building or Senayan and Semanggi areas.

“So, we cooperate with Tourism Ministry in ar-ranging this route so that there is a historical value and not just flying,” said Ari.

“The Wonderful Joy Flight was also booked for December 24 and 27,” he added.

Currently, the Helicity is focused on the city tour. However, it also serves the reservations for pick and drop.

“We are still in the deve-lopment stage of the routes in the city, not out of town. Most of the customers who book it are also still from family circle,” Ari said. (TPP)

Over the same period, re-venue contributions from the power plant, part of the In-frastructure pillar, increased 25% from Rp 918.7 billion as per 9M16 to Rp 1,149.1 bil-lion in 9M17 mainly because the power plant operated at full capacity in 2017 whereas parts of the second and third quarter of 2016 the plant ope-rated at half capacity be-cause of a leakage in one of the boilers – which was fully repaired in August last year. Total recurring revenue from the Company’s infrastructure businesses (power, port, wa-ter) equals 63% of total reve-nue in 9M17, equal to 9M16.

Largely in line with re-venue, the Company’s gross profit increased from Rp 742.0 billion in 9M16 to become Rp 857.7 billion in 9M17, an in-crease of 16%. At the same time, the Company’s conso-lidated gross profit margin

decreased slightly; from 38% in 9M16 to 37% in 9M17. This re-duction is mainly the result from a lower gross profit margin from the Land Development & Pro-perty pillar in 9M17 at 61%, com-pared to 74% in 9M16. This lo-wer margin is mainly the result from more contributions from sales in Kendal, which on aver-age have significantly lower mar-gins compared to Cikarang. The Infrastructure pillar gross pro-fit margin increased from 20% in 9M16 to 23% in 9M17, where-as the gross profit margin for the Leisure & Hospitality pillar in-creased from 41% in 9M16 to 46% in 9M17.

KIJA’s net income for the pe-riod as per 9M17 was recorded at Rp 165.7 billion; a decrease of 52% compared to the first nine months of 2016. This was mainly caused by a large net fo-reign exchange (forex) gain of Rp 186.3 billion in the first 3 quar-ters of 2016, compared to loss of Rp 22.0 billion in the same peri-od of 2017. Excluding such forex gains the Company’s net in-come for the period would have in fact increased 18% from Rp 158.8 billion to Rp 187.7 billion. These amounts are the sum of operational and financial forex gains/losses and gain/loss on our hedging contracts. The de-tails of this can be found in the financial and other income and expense sections of our 9M17 fi-nancial report.

Largely in line with the Com-pany’s revenue and gross profit, KIJA’s EBITDA in 9M17 reached Rp 672.3 billion, an increase of 15% compared to the Rp 585.8 billion achieved in the first nine months of 2016. (IDX/TPP)

Oil and Gas Still Main Source of Energy in Indonesia

PLN Uses Solar Power to Cope with Electricity Crisis in Outer Islands

Magnetic! PORTECH 2018 (Power and Technology) event takes over action support for industrial technology with smart performance in Indonesia

To cope with the elec-tricity crisis in the islands located in the outer, bor-der and disadvantaged (3T) are as, especially in the Riau Islands Province (Ke-pri), PLN through its Riau Islands Regional Office continues to add the diesel generator units.

The state-owned elec-tricity company has invest-ed Rp721 billion for power generation in the Riau Is-lands. In addition to the diesel generator, recent-ly PLN has also installed thesolar panels to generate

“The solar power generation (PLTS) is simple and does not cost that much since we don’t need to buy the fuel. In the outer islands like these, trans-portation becomes the main obstacle for us to serve the customers maximally,” said General Manager of PLN Riau Islands Regional Office Dwi-Suryo Abdullah.

Head of Formality Division of Special Task Force (SKK) for oil and gas Didik Setiya-di has said that in the next 12 years Indonesia will run out of petroleum oil if new re-serves are not found. There-fore, it needs the commitment of all parties to promote good investment climate for oil and gas upstream industry in In-donesia.

“In the next 37 years, oil and gas will be still the main source of energy for Indo-nesia, especially for trans-portation, power plants and factories,” Didik said while speaking at the Focus Group Discussion (FGD) of Oil and Gas in Ku-ningan, South Ja-karta, on Friday (12/15).

According to Didik, recent-ly the findings of new oil and gas reserves in Indonesia are decreasing due to lessening exploration activities. This happens because of many fac-tors, includingthe too many licen-ses and uncertainty is-

sues on the rules and regula-tions.

Based on the data of BP Statistical Review 2016, In-donesia’s proven oil reserves by the end of 2015 were only 3.6 billion barrels. The pro-ven gas reserves, referring to the same data, were estimat-ed at around 100.3 trillion cu-bic feet (TCF).

“The problem is, the dai-ly consumption of oil in this country reaches 1.6 million barrels. Of that number, only about 800,000 barrels are supplied from the domestic production while the rest have to be imported,” Didik said.

He added that the licens-ing isone of the real challeng-es that must immediately get a solution to avoid the ener-gy crisis from hitting Indone-sia in the near future.

“Currently, the oil and gas contractors must take care of 373 types of licenses to be able to sell their products,” he said, complaining. (IND/TPP)

Both PLTS are operat-ed from 08.00 WIB to 17.00 WIB or approximately for nine hours. The PLTS in the Sian-tan Island has a daily capa-city of 65 kW on average, so in a month they are able to pro-duce 17,500 kWh of electricity.

In the meantime, the PLTS in the SugiBawah Island, Moro, is bigger. The capacity of this PLTS can reach 150 kW daily which is considered more efficient. (SWA/TPP)

LOGISTICS| January, 2018 | Vol. 8 No. 01B4 www.presidentpost.com

Cikarang Dry Port, managed by PT Cikarang Inland Port, has been developing a smart port concept to accelerate and sim-plify its services and support the national logistics system. The smart port concept is in line with the government’s efforts to streamline the national logistics and support the integration sys-tem of Indonesia National Single Window.

As an early stage of the smart port development, starting from last early May, the Cikarang Dry Port has been implementing the auto gate system, truck member-ship and association connected to the port service system, cus-toms and quarantine. This deve-lopment aims to simplify the pro-cess and facilitate the exchange of data in a paperless system.

Now the Cikarang Dry Port, as a spoke and hub of the Tanjung Priok Port, is preparing to launch a mobile application called MyCDP. The soft launching will be done tomorrow on Wednes-

day (12/13) in Jakarta according to the invitation received by pre-sidentpost.id.

The application will make us-ers easier to track their contain-ers, oversee the reefer containers, estimate the terminal charge bill, and order a truck for delivery. This will certainly make it easi-er for the customers to manage their logistics activities by only using their smart phone when-ever and wherever they like.

As a breakthrough in the lo-gistics industry, we were curious about the MyCDP application. It can be downloaded from the Google Play although it’s still un-released. However, we could not try it because we must have the registration ID which is only gi-ven to the Cikarang Dry Port cus-tomers after being verified.

What we could do just look-ing around the features offered by the application. On the home-page there are 5 menus, namely Container Tracking, Reefer Data, Tariff Simulation, Associate and

Feeder Service.The Container Tracking menu

provides information of contain-er whereabout, the time of exit-ing or entering the sea port and the time of coming or leaving the Cikarang Dry Port, as well as in-formation on related documents.

The Reefer Data menu pro-vides information on the condi-tion and temperature of the reefer containers while in the container terminal of Cikarang Dry Port.

The Tariff Simulation menu is a tool to estimate the total cost of terminals used by the containers after leaving them at the specified dates.

The Associate menu provides information on the trucking or other transport modes providers can be used after the issuance of the bill of lading.

The Feeder Service menu is used to order and monitor the delivery services, pickup, and do-mestic transportation modes.

The government’s efforts to improve the logistics effi-ciency seem to show results. At least it is reflected in the increasing volume of goods handled in a number of ma-jor ports in the country.

The container termi-nal of TPK Koja records the throughput from both inter-national and domestic ship-ping companies exceeding 1 million TEUs until the first week of December 2017. This figure is the highest ever since the terminal was estab-lished 20 years ago.

“The throughput of more than 1 million TEUs is a mo-numental achievement for TPK Koja,” said General Ma-nager of TPK Koja Ade Har-tono in Jakarta on Sunday (12/10).

According to him, until the end of this year, the manage-ment of TPK Koja estimates the total throughput will reach 1.095 million TEUs, or 31% higher than the target for 2017 set at 830,531 TEUs.

The achievement will sup-port the government program

in cost-efficient logistics to spur the national economic growth.

The administration of Presi-dent Joko Widodo (Jokowi) tar-gets to increase the efficiency and cut the loading and unload-ing time at the ports. Besides lowering the logistics costs, the goal is also to increase the vo-lume of goods and services han-dled at the ports. Hopefully, the wheels of the economy will spin faster.

“The achievement tanks also to the support of relevant stake-holders, especially the operation of the northern pier,” Ade said.

He added the accomplish-ment will become a reference for the company to run according to the corporate roadmap that has been compiled until 2020. “We must continue to make improve-ments to maintain this achieve-ment, especially in improving the service quality and repairing the supporting facilities.”

Ade also said the exceeding 1 million TEUs throughput was supported by appropriate mar-ket penetration strategy accord-ing to the corporate roadmap. “In the future, TPK Koja will con-

tinue to focus on the growth of volume and profit as well as the creation of new services that support the core business, such as integrating the transshipment services.”

Another achievement of TPK Koja this year as the increase of Box Crane per Hour (BCH), mi-gration from ISO 9001: 2008 to ISO 9001: 2015, and awarded as the best implementation of Good Corporate Governance (GCG).

TPK Koja Corporate Secretary Nuryono Arief said that the BCH (loading and unloading contain-ers from and to the ship) as of September 2017 reached 23 box-es per hour, up from 20 boxes per hour at the same period last year.

TPK Koja, Arief said, was cer-tified with ISO 9001: 2015 in April 2017. At the end of Octo-ber 2017, TPK Koja was declared worthy of ISO 9001: 2015 certif-icate after an independent audit.

Arief also mentioned that TPK Koja is ranked first in the im-plementation of Good Corporate Governance (GCG) among do-zens of subsidiaries of PT Pelindo II in 2016 and 2015. (DTK/TPP)

President University, FHUI and Young Nationalist Discussion Forum Launch Kris

Kris Wijoyo Soepandji launched a book titled “State Science: A Geopolitical Pers-pective Today” in the Batavia Tower, Jakarta, on Saturday (12/16).

Nowadays various geopoliti-cal dynamics, such as the ra-cing on influence between the United States and China, the conflicts in the Middle East, and the spread of radicalism in the name of a transnational religion have an impact to the situation in the world, includ-ing Indonesia.

Kris Wijoyo Soepandji S.H., M.P.P., a Legal Basics lecturer at the Faculty of Law, the Uni-versity of Indonesia (FHUI), at the launch of his book said that the dynamics may affect the national stability.

“Moreover, Indonesia will enter the election prepara-tion years in 2018 and 2019. Do not let the geopolitical dy-namics cause divisions in our nation. Geopolitical dynamics may affect directly or indirect-ly on the interests of the Indo-nesian people, both in the so-cial, economic, political and military,” said Kris Wijoyo Soe pandji.

The Founding Partner of the Krisna Strategic Policy Firm in his book says there are four important historical events which were influenced by the geopolitical dynamics. First, the fall of Constantinople into the hands of the Ottomans that encouraged the Europe-an nations to seek alterna-tive ways in the distribution

of commodities by controlling the trading routes from Asia, America, and Africa.

Second, Indonesian inde-pendence diplomacy (1945-1949); third, the return of West Irian to Indonesia which took place during the Cold War between the US-led West Block and the Soviet-led East Block; and fourth, the separa-tion of East Timor from Indo-nesia in 1999 after the end of the Cold War, at the time when the international opinions in-creasingly cornered Indone-sia and led to the 1999 refe-rendum.

“In general, geopolitics talk about three things. First, hu-man interaction in a political relationship within a certain

area; second, how the main geopolitical actor is no long-er centered on the state but to non-state who increasing-ly have a high role and legi-timacy; and third, relating to the mastery and utilization of the resources,” said Kris who earned his master’s degree at the National University of Si-ngapore.

Meantime Head of Legal Studies Division of FHUI Budi Darmono, S.H., Ph.D, said that the Proclamation of Indo-nesian Independence on Au-gust 17, 1945 is a proof of the geopolitical awareness of the founding fathers of Indonesia. At that time, the Proclama-tion of Independence was done by the founders of the nation

Pieter Immanuel Sinaga, the inventor of Launch Box, is the son of Mr. Robin Sinaga and Mrs. Rehngena, He was born in Kendari on January 26, 1995. He is a young entrepreneur, an alumnus of President University Batch 2012 Business Adminis-tration (BA).

Launch Box is a boxed rice coming with various menus. For Carbo, the customers can choose white rice, brown rice,

potatoes or noodles. For the Pro-tein, there are chicken, fish, egg + tuna and egg + corned beef. The prices start from Rp15,000 with one Carbo, one Protein, Sauce and Topping.

Launch Box is open from 8 am to 7.30 pm, taking orders up to 10 pm and promises that the order will be ready before the morning class the next day or around 6.45 am.

Pieter decided to plunge into

the culinary business because he likes selling things and food is important for human survi-val. “Humans will not stop eat-ing until they die,” he said. Be-sides he wants to develop his hobby on cooking.

The brand name Launch Box came up after he learned that most of the students at the Pre-sident University prefer some-thing instant and efficient for their meal.

The Launch Box was born at President University Student Housing in September 2016. Currently Pieter employs 7 stu-dents. The working hours at Launch Box are set based on the schedules of their classes and student activities. Pieter is able to manage such a schedule from his experiences working at a fried chicken restaurant when he was a student.

“It was so tiresome working

of class 2014 was award-ed with The 3rd Best Oral-ist from the Whole Prelimi-nary Round,” he said.

As the winner, the team will be sent to represent In-donesia in the 16th Asia-Pacific Round of the Red Cross International Hu-manitarian Law Moot Court Competition 2018 to be held in Hong Kong on March 7-10, 2018.

shallow gas on the east coast of Sidoarjo. The team also dis-cussed various types of geolo-gical factors that control the dispersion of the seepage pat-tern. According to Rio, the ad-vantage of his team’s presenta-tion to make them a winner was in its simplicity and easy to un-derstand by multidisciplinary sciences.

At the Geo-log category, the contestants had to answer ba-sic questions related to geolo-gy. After that, from 100 Geolog parti cipant teams, at the end 6 teams were selected to move to the final round where they were tested for their understanding on the basic geology concepts such as mapping and rock des-cription.

Rio said he experienced some obstacles to participate in the competition, especially relat-ed to the finance. Rio said his team did not have enough mo-ney to cover the transport to In-dia, but the ITB’s Engineering Geology Study Program provid-ed the financial assistance so that Rio and the team were able to fly to India and participate in the competition. Rio said he hoped ITB will continue to sup-port its students to participate in the competitions both natio-nally and internationally. (TPP)

Prior to the Proclama-tion of Independence, the founders of the nation were united in the Investigation Agency for Preparation of Independence (BPUPK) who convened on May 29 to June 1, 1945, to formulate the foundation of the coun-try, known as Pancasila, which offered a new idea on the statehood to the world. Up to now, the world is ge-nerally a dichotomy bet-ween a theocracy and a secular state.

“However, with the prin-ciple of Belief in One and Only God, Pancasila offers a middle ground not to be a theocracy nor a secular state. This middle way of-fered by Pancasila is what needed to face the geopoli-tical dynamics,” said Budi.

The book launching was organized by President Uni-versity, FHUI and Young Nationalist Discussion Fo-rum, supported by Krish-na Strategic Policy Firm. The event was attended by noted figures such as For-mer RI Military Command-er General Ret. Muldoko as the keynote speaker, For-mer Governor of Natio nal Defense Institute (Lem-hannas) Prof. Budi Susilo Soepandji and Prof. Dadan Umar Daihani from Lem-hanas. (TPP)

From beginning until now Pie ter’s business is going well. The turnover per day is about Rp1.5 million and the gross profit can reach Rp30 million per month.

The main challenge he faces is related to the workforce, es-

pecially in managing the sche-dule of working hours for each employee since they are stu-dents with different hours they need for classes and student ac-tivities.

Pieter said his dream is to franchise his business so that Lunch Box outlets are spread-ing in the big cities in Indonesia.

5 Tourist Destinations for Traveling with Seniors

It is quite tricky in determining where to go for traveling with elderly. The reason is the se-nior people have limitations and they are not as strong as the younger ones. They tend to get tired easily, though their spirit is still high to explore the premise. Therefore, you should choose the tourist destination wisely so that the elderly can enjoy the holiday as much as you.

1. Flower Garden or Park A flower garden like Gardens By The Bay in

Singapore is a good place to visit with seniors. Most old people love the beauty and the serene atmosphere of a garden like that. They can also enjoy the fresh air while looking around the col-orful flowers and produce interesting photos when their pictures are taken.

2. Resort or Relaxing SpaOld parents certainly will like it if you ask

them to go for relaxing. So, try to book 2 full days in a resort that is quiet enough, with a view of a beach or a beautiful mountain. Sit back and relax while chatting with them and share stories that have not been told yet.

3. Historical PlaceElderly do tend to like nostalgia and remem-

ber the past. Historical tour is not necessarily always boring. Touring the Borobudur Temple or Old Town provides so many interesting ob-jects. Choose a beautiful place with a facility to rest and easy to walk around.

4. MuseumIf your parents like museums, choose a mu-

seum that is modern enough, so you will not get bored while accompanying them. One of the modern and informative museums for visit is Museum Angkut in Batu, Malang. Prepare the camera to take pictures of vintage things there.

5. Culinary TourThis is the easiest alternative. You just find

out their favorite foods, then take them to the best restaurant in serving the foods. However, do not forget to know exactly whether they have to avoid some certain food ingredients. You do not want their health to drop after having the meal, right?

Taking your parents to travel together is cer-tainly fun and will generate a deep impression on you and your parents. Try to remember once again, when was the last time you really en-joyed the time traveling together with them? (TPP)

Ucok Durian: Tasty, Good

Services and Facilities

I went to Medan in early December and for some reason what I thought was only Ucok Durian. May-be because it’s been viral after visited by President Jokowi or just curious why many people sell the duri-an online in Jakarta.

My first visit to the durian store was on the morn-ing of December 2, 2017 at 11:00 pm. By using an online taxi, I went to the store which is quite close to my hotel.

Once at the store, I could see the cashier was busy serving customers who were making payments or picking the durian packages for take-out.

Ucok Durian prepares the packages nicely for take-out with the prices ranging from Rp125,000 for the smallest to Rp550,000 for the biggest.

I asked for 2 durians for dine-in with my wife, and ... Ucok durian is indeed so delicious. I think it’s best for you to try yourself or you can guess the taste from the picture I took below. I really like it and what I can say this durian is very creamy and makes you want more.

Ucok Durian also guarantee its products so that if the customer does not like the durian given, they can exchange it with another.

Ucok Durian only accepts cash and you can with-draw money from ATMs in the store if you run out of cash. The 200-seat store is also completed with toi-lets and musholla, making the customers feel at home while enjoying the durian.

A firm statement was displayed on almost every corner of the dining place, saying Ucok Durian does not have any branch and does not sell online. Any

complaint from other than the store will not be res-ponded.

But do not worry, Ucok Durian takes the orders for delivery in Medan and Jabodetabek area by the phone number printed on the board. Additional menus are also available like pancakes, dodol (sweets), cendol and ice cream, with durian flavor of course.

I glimpsed Mr. Zainal, the owner Ucok Durian, briefly so I did not have a change to speak to him. On my last day in Medan or the next day, I went back at 5.30 pm. I was surprised to find the store was packed with customers and durians piled up, while the own-er was watching.

This time I got the chance to talk with Mr. Zainal Abidin Chaniago or Ucok, but not for long because I had to catch the train to Kualanamu Airport.

“25 Years ago, I was selling durian at the corner of Jalan Iskandar Muda in front of a store,” said Ucok, adding he could only open his business after dusk, af-ter the store was closed.

Now Ucok is assisted by 30 employees and every day he can sell 3,000 durians. In holidays 7,000 du-rians are sold with a turnover per day reaches Rp75 million.

It is a great achievement for Ucok. His store be-comes a favorite destination for tourists who want to eat fine durian with good services and complete faci-lities in the middle of the city.
