Career Timeline

This is a reiterative process--Individuals experience the elements of the continuum over and over again throughout their careers to become mission ready at each way point.

The information content or level of application required at each waypoint is different—it may be new information, or may be higher level of application requiring new skills.

Each Joint Officer’s path can be unique—individualized based on career choices and experiences.

Joint Learning Continuum

JSO Study

• Identified gaps in available training and preparation of newly assigned JSOs at combatant commands

• Final report reviewed and signed off by the Combatant Commands and Joint Staff Directorates; report finalized by JS J-7 August 2009

• Initial Training Aids developed—Joint Officer Handbooks and Smartcards

– Alpha Test at NORTHCOM--completed– Beta Tests to begin 1 September in 10 Combatant

Commands and the National Guard Bureau• Identified 15 JSO competencies that serve as a baseline

for further Individual Joint Training initiatives
