Kuhn Wearing #19

Senior Robert Kuhn will wear #19 this sea-son after wearing #10 in 2017 and 2018. The number 19 was assigned to Jeremy Huber in the fall of 2014; less than two weeks prior to the start of what would have been Huber’s freshman year in 2015, he passed away sud-denly from complications from pneumonia. Hopkins kept Huber on its roster through last spring, when he would have been a senior and nobody else wore 19 from 2015-18.

After the 2018 season ended, head coach Dave Pietramala met with members of the se-nior class (Huber’s classmates) and discussed issuing the number to a returning player in 2019 who best exemplified Huber. By a vote of the graduating seniors in 2018, Kuhn was selected to be the first player to wear #19 after Huber.

Things to Know - Loyola« Loyola topped Virginia, 17-9, in its season opener last week at the Ridley Athletic Complex.« The Greyhounds are ranked number two in both the USILA Coaches Poll and the Inside Lacrosse Media Poll. « Dating back to March 23, 2016, Loyola has scored 10 or more goals 37 times in 43 games and the ‘Hounds are averaging just under 13 goals per game during that stretch.« Loyola had the sixth-best shooting percentage in the nation last season (.351) and picked up right where they left off in the season-opening win against Virginia as the Greyhounds scored on 17-of-40 shots against the Cavaliers (.425).« The Loyola defense has held 14 of its last 18 opponents under 10 goals and the ‘Hounds are 13-1 in those 14 games.

Greyhounds to WatchKevin Lindley (So. • A)« Lindley scored five goals in last week’s win against Virginia and has scored nine goals in his last two games against the Cavaliers (four vs. UVA in 2018 NCAA First Round, five last Saturday).« Including his effort last week, Lindley has now scored 42 career goals in 18 games.

Pat Spencer (Sr. • A)« The front-runner for National Player of the Year honors, Spencer pounced up five goals and two assists last week against Virginia. The five goals matched his career high.« Spencer enters this week’s game against Johns Hopkins with career totals of 105 goals and 168 assists for 273 points. He is just 38 points shy of the Loyola record for points and will become the 15th Division I player with 300 points with 27 more this season.

Jacob Stover (Sr. • G)« Posted 18 saves, one shy of his career high, to fuel last week’s 17-9 win over Virginia. The victory improved his career record to 33-10.« The son of former Baltimore Ravens kicker Matt Stover, Jacob Stover sports an 8.11 career goals against average and a .551 save percentage.

Scott, who passed away on September 15, 2016, spent 20 years as the men’s lacrosse coach at Johns Hopkins (1955-74) and guided the Blue Jays to seven national champi-onships, including the program’s first NCAA title in 1974. He continued to serve the University as the Director of Athletics until 1995.

Many Johns Hopkins teams wore patches on their uniforms in honor of Scott the year after he died; the men’s lacrosse patches included seven stars to commemorate his seven national championships.

JHU MLax and the Friends of Jaclyn

The Johns Hopkins men’s lacrosse team is partnered with the Friends of Jaclyn Foundation (FOJ). This is the third time the Blue Jays have partnered with FOJ.

The Blue Jays “adopted” Connor Durgin on October 7, 2015 and he has been a fixture at games and other team events since then. He took part in the pregame meeting with officials and team captains when the Blue Jays hosted Syracuse on March 19, 2016 and made the trip to Penn State a month later and made the Blue Jays’ call on the coin toss (tails), which JHU won.

Durgin also took part in the pregame schedule against Penn State in 2017 and Ohio State during the 2018 season.

The Friends of Jaclyn Foundation’s mission is to improve the quality of life for children battling pediatric brain tumors and other childhood cancers and to raise awareness through the Adopt-a-Child, Safe on the Sidelines and Guardian Angel Programs. FOJ does this by pairing the afflicted child and their siblings with local high school and college sports teams.
