Trinity London Diploma Results. Associate of Trinity College (ATCL) Elsie Spiers – Pass Theresa McLean - Pass with Distinction Eamon Walsh - Pass with Distinction Gus Dube- Pass with Distinction. Congratulations.

8MB embrace our 2017 school focus: facta non verba/ deeds not words! 8MB embarked on a BIG charity project this year end of term 2. Encouraged by Mrs Grimm, their English teacher, the class decided to get involved in a Student Volunteer Army charity project based on Sam Hunt's model, instigated by Skoolkit.

When the class heard about the support that Ronald McDonald House, Wellington gave Mrs Grimm and her family back in 2013 when her twin grandsons were born at just 28 weeks they decided to support this wonderful community institution. Since the end of term 2 until the end of term 3, the students of 8MB have made and produced an array of wonderful support kits for both the children and parents staying at RMD Houses Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch. The 3 big boxes of the students’ 13 weeks charity projects shipped off week 10 term3 included: 80 knitted wool beanies (size premature to 3 years) buntings and wall hangings, cot mobiles, children's story booklets, 4 knitted cot blankets, alphabet sets for making name tags on the incubators, origami games, puzzles and colouring in books for older children, inspirational posters. The Daily Post ran a story on this project including Mrs Hepi’s class project ‘Cleaning up the Utuhina Stream 28 September. This teacher is humbled by the amazing support given to our chosen project and salute her students for honouring our school focus.

NCEA LEVEL 3 EXCELLENCE ENDORSEMENTS Congratulations go to the following students who have not only achieved their NCEA Level 3 but from the work that they have completed this year have also had their NCEA Level 3 endorsed with EXCELLENCE Caitlin Koller, Elena Lee, Theresa McLean and Eamon Walsh It is also pleasing to know that there are a number of other students in Year 13 who are close to achieving this success as well. These students will in due course also be rewarded with a Level 3 Excellence endorsement badge Peter Sinclair D.P Curriculum

Kia ora from the Counsellors Welcome back to term 4, a very busy term, especially for our senior students as they prepare for their final NCEA assessments and external exams. For many, the end of year brings with it academic worries and pressures as well as the uncertainty of change ahead for those moving on from school. Very timely then, that there is a current focus on Mental Health Awareness (even though the international week for this was in the 2nd week of the holidays!) At JPC we strongly support mental health awareness and have a few activities planned to run for a week from this Wednesday 18th October: Writing competitions, a Mindfulness session led by Mrs Jane Trask, Bee keeping activities and our annual inter-house haka competition. These activities will be launched through a student led presentation at this week’s assembly. The NZ Mental Health Foundation has created a list of 5 ways to well-being that are highly effective and very “doable “ for us all in maintaining good mental health. Here they are: While MHA week comes just once a year, these are all things we can do daily to keep us mentally robust and feeling positive and well. Let’s all encourage our young people to embrace these 5 steps to well-being. And of course… let’s lead by example! Parents please remember we are always happy to hear from you if you have any concerns for your young person.
