Marriage – Divorce – Remarriage

Jesus Said:But I say to you that whoever divorces his wife for any reason except sexual immorality causes her to commit adultery; and whoever marries a woman who is divorced commits adultery.”

Matthew 5:32

Jesus Said:

"And I say to you, whoever divorces his wife, except for sexual immorality, and marries another, commits adultery; and whoever marries her who is divorced commits adultery."

Matthew 19:9

Jesus Said:

1. To divorce and marry another is a sin

2. It is not marriage, but adultery

3. The exception is sexual immorality

"So then, they are no longer two but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let not man separate“

It is Not Marriage, it is Adultery

God defines what makes marriage

He says a remarriage after a divorce (without cause) is adultery

"Whoever divorces his wife and marries another commits adultery; and whoever marries her who is divorced from her husband commits adultery” Luke 16:18

The Exception of FornicationThere is ONLY one exception –

Sexual Immorality (physical adultery)

Whoever divorces his wife, except for sexual immorality, and marries another, commits adultery;

It allows ONLY the innocent remarriage

Terrible ConclusionSome may have to “put away” spouses to

come to Christ"For there are eunuchs who were born thus

from their mother's womb, and there are eunuchs who were made eunuchs by men, and there are eunuchs who have made themselves eunuchs for the kingdom of heaven's sake. He who is able to accept it, let him accept it.“Matthew 19:12

Resistance to Teaching- It is forgiven with baptism- Repentance cleanses all error- Matthew 19 is the Old Law- Matthew 19 is for Christians only- A forsaken believer is free to remarry- God does not desire families broken

ConclusionsSin often has terrible consequences that

we must address

We can still enter eternal life, but much may be called of us to do so

We need to tell others to let them decide

What One Must Do To Be Saved

Repent of our sins – Acts 2:38

Be baptized into Christ – Galatians 3:27

Remain faithful – Revelation 2:10
