October 2017 For the vision has its appointed time. It will not disappoint. If it delays, wait for it, it will surely come, it will not be late. - Habakkuk 2:3 Dear Friend of Jesuit Retreat House, With great joy and hope we celebrated the Dedication of our new addition at Jesuit Retreat House on Sunday, September 17 with the Jesuit community, JRH Board and staff, and major donors who have made this moment possible. We are living into the vision and dream that began at the turn of this century to better serve more people with the gift of our Ignatian spirituality. It is a great blessing to build on the dedication and leadership of all those who prayed and planned and worked to lay the groundwork to bring this moment to fruition: the Board members, staff and Executive Directors going back to the hopes of Fr. Jim Riley SJ, the vision of Fr. Clem Metzger SJ, and the initiation of the design phase by Sr. Mary Ann Flannery SC. All are welcome to come and see our new addition at a series of October Open House events listed inside. We will have greatly improved accessibility for all and the capacity to host multiple programs at the same time. We will be doing the needed renovation and updating of our current building this year as well as next summer. Our Capital Campaign: “To Journey, To Build, To Profess” has made great progress and we have reached 80% of our $8 million goal. To those of you who have pledged or donated to our capital campaign, we offer our deepest thanks. For those who have not yet had the opportunity to participate, prayerfully consider how you can best express your care and support for JRH in this time of great hope and new possibilities in our service to others. Also, please join me in welcoming and working with our new Director of Program Development, Paula Fitzgerald. We pray for our JRH community each day, and ask that you pray for all who share in our ministries. God be with you, Richard S. Historic Moment !

The first retreat in the new addition and the

first Hispanic Catechist Retreat in

the Diocese of Cleveland.

Convened by the Diocesan

Office of Catechetical Formation and Education, this first retreat was led by Fr. Domingo Rodriguez ST

in Spanish, the language of St. Ignatius of Loyola.

Celebrating Our Dedication of the New Addition

New features include:

· Large meeting space for up to 135 people with latest audio-visual capability

· Multiple meeting rooms for 8 - 12 people

· A beautiful new Manresa prayer room

· New rooms for spiritual direction

· 10 new bedrooms for 2 people with private baths - ideal for married couples

· Greatly improved accessibility for all, including handicapped and elderly persons (entry, elevator, restrooms)

· Air conditioning in existing bedrooms

· We are renovating our over 60-year-old building through 2018 with other major improvements. New shrines and improvements to our grounds are also planned.

Our Dedication was truly a beautiful and memorable ceremony! It began with the Celebration of the Mass in the new Loyola Meeting Room. Fr. Brian Paulson SJ, Provincial of the Midwest Province, was Principal Celebrant with Jesuit and

Diocesan priests as concelebrants. Following Mass a very moving Video of Thanks from Jesuits and JRH staff was presented. Fr. Paulson then led a blessing ritual through each room of the new addition as all present lined the hallways and sang Veni Sancte Spiritus. A reception followed. The Video of Thanks is on our website and Dedication Highlights will follow.

Loving Kindness and grow deeper in it as we apply it in

our lives. We will also explore writers and spiritual leaders,

chief among them Pope Francis, to determine how

kindness made them more peaceful in times of duress and

challenge. And kindness can do the same for us. So get

ready for a wonderful retreat!

Morning Prayer for Women

October 30, November 27, December 18

Women from all walks of life are invited to pray together and learn more about the beauty of prayer. Led by Sr. Mary Ann Flannery, S.C., this prayer group will refresh your spirit and help you find strength in regular prayer habits. Just bring your Bible and come as you are! The morning prayer takes place 9:30-11:00 am, cost is $8, and includes coffee and pastry. Registrations are encouraged, but walk-ins welcome.

Pre-Cana Days 12:45 - 8:00 pm Cost is $85

October 22 November 12 January 14 February 25

Pre-Cana couples take time away from the flurry of wedding planning to reflect upon the Sacrament as it is lived each day. Married couples share witness stories, and time is set aside for one on one conversation. The day ends with Mass and dinner. Pre-Cana days at JRH meet diocesan requirements for marriage preparation.

In Loving Memory

Each month we remember our benefactors with Mass. In a special way we remember our friends who have gone home to the Lord. We remember and pray for Mary Dacey, Donald Fergus, Mary Fitzgerald, Jean Keller, Carolyn Leitch, and Fr. Bernard Streicher, S.J. Please let us know when you lose a loved one, and we will add them to our Mass intentions.
