for the drivers registration and briefing. Alec and his son Alex with Gerdus agreed to lead the two groups. One group was for the raised and advanced drivers and the other one for standard vehicles and the less adventurous drivers. Suzi managed the registration and collection of monies from those who had not yet paid. It was an open weekend so friends with their 4x4’s were invited to ride with the Jeep Club. It always great to compare the Jeep brand to others when on a fun outing.

Moegatle 4x4 is one of three terror trails in South Africa so all were excited and a little nervous while Alec discussed the farm and the route we would be following for the day. The two groups quickly departed from the reception area and it was not long before drivers and vehicles were being guided through an onslaught of different obstacles. Andrew’s Rubicon suddenly came to a standstill in the route with the power lost and battery dead. Parked out the way his group were placed into other vehicles and off we went again.

The route winded through the river bed with obstacle after obstacle. Fun was had as all raced along the thick sand in the river bed. Back to camp we went where the swimming pool became the place to be as we sat in a warm 38 degrees in the shade. That night all joined in at the communal braai and chatted about the various mishaps and events that transpired throughout the day.

Sunday morning the organisers were up early getting ready for the next group of drivers and 4x4 enthusiasts to arrive. We had representation from Cargo Motors Edenvale and Mc Carthy Centurion. Drivers briefing and welcome was done by Wollie and again we broke into two groups but today we would all drive the same route.

On the cards was “Koos se Klim” a grade 5 rock climb not for the faint hearted. Many a vehicle has got it wrong and rolled. Both groups arrived at Koos se Klim and one by one the Jeeps drove up the Rock face without any incident to note. The less adventurous took the back route and also drove to the top of the rock. Great views and pictures where captured from this high advantage point. Slowly all drove down the mountain and headed for camp where all packed up and said there good byes until the next outing.

Thank you to the organisers of Jeep Club SA and Moegatle4x4 for a most memorable weekend.

Jeep & Harley Davidson Breakfast Run - McCarthy, Wonderboom to De Wildt

On Sunday 1st March 2015, two American icons joined forces in an early morning Breakfast Run from the Wonderboom Dealerships to the De Wildt Off road facility. The weather was perfect and a variety of Jeep models arrived – some with roofs and others without roofs and even doors. The Harley Davidson motorcycles were in excellent condition, showcasing hours of cleaning, polishing, love & care.

The Jeeps (+-22) and Harley Davidson motorcycles (+-25) formed an almost 3 km long convoy travelling the +- 25 km to De Wildt, making it a spectacular sight for other motorists and bystanders. The Marshalls from Harley Davidson Zambezi did a sterling job of ensuring the vehicles kept on moving uninterrupted by traffic lights, other traffic, etc.

On arrival at De Wildt, the majority of motorcycles were left under guard at the entrance and the motorcyclists were ferried off by the Jeepers to the Lapa area, where Wayne from McCarthy, Wonderboom, arranged a Brunch to feed the hungry road warriors. Demo Jeeps were made available by McCarthy Wonderboom on the 4x4 training track for the Harley owners to get a taste of “Jeeping” under the watchful eyes of the Trainers at the track. There was also an opportunity to drive the eco track with Jeep Club members and McCarthy staff. Everybody thoroughly enjoyed the day and a big word of “thank you” must go to the McCarthy, Wonderboom staff for arranging the event, as well as the Harley Davidson club members for their participation.

We sincerely hope that more of these interactive events will be arranged in future as the lifestyle is shared in a great number of ways between the two Brands.

WILD DUNES – KWAZULU-NATAL – MARCH 2015

We all met at the Krafty Chameleon on Sunday morning, where we were treated to a lovely breakfast by Lourens and his team from Krafty Chameleon just before Port Edward on the South Coast.

From there we headed out about 40km towards Bizana before we took the dirt road turn off towards the Wild Coast. After a quick stop to let some air out of the tyres we continued on our exciting journey to the Red Dunes.

After encountering some technical obstacles we reached the dunes at last. We followed the trail leader around the dunes to the river mouth where we encountered a muddy marsh field which turned out to be more troublesome then we thought. We soon realized that all 18 of the Jeeps won’t make it through and we had to find a way around. We reunited with the broken pack and split up into 3 teams for a bit of follow the leader fun on the dunes.

Great fun was had by all, but after the wind picked up we all had red sand in every nook and cranny we decided it was time to head back home. One thing about Wild Coast outing it always leaves you wanting more. I would like to thank all members who

joined us for this great outing

and hope to see you all again on the next one in the Valley of 1000 Hills. HONINGKLIP NIGHT DRIVE – WESTERN CAPE – MARCH 2015

We hosted an event at Honingklip 4x4 on the 21st of March 2015. 22 vehicles arrived on the farm at 5:30 pm, tyres were deflated and all the general ‘tyre talk’, modification inspections and catching up with old friends was done. The owner of the farm Richard Middleman was unfortunately away fighting a fire at the time so he could not be present but the show carried on smoothly with the assistance of Phillippa his wife. We all got together in the welcoming shed where everybody was treated to a very tasty boerie roll with a difference supplied by the Chef at the Honingklip Brewery.

Water for the trip was kindly supplied by BODYGUARD 4x4, thank you Gareth. Tyre Plus very kindly sponsored a tyre check and inflation point, some handy Car Sun shields and probably the best was the Head Lamps that came in very handy for the event, as well as a very generous R 5000.00. sponsorship from Cooper Tyres that was handed out through a lucky number draw at the end of the trip to the winner, Maurice Paliaga. Marius Cornelissen kindly arranged a goodie bag with some hand licence disc stickers, a handy thermos cup complete with a straw, perfect for the replenishing of liquids while traversing some difficult terrain. ored a TABARD stick to keep those pesky mozzies at bay. A big thank you to all the sponsors. Once the formalities were done and the sun had set we departed on the route. A few comments from the drivers best describes the evening:

Russell Verwey ‘I recently purchase a 2014 Jeep Wrangler Sahara 3.6 auto (4 Door) from Rola Motors in Somerset West. Charles and I were excited to experience the night drive which we have never done before. We got stuck in 2 obstacles “if I can call it that” but were quickly assisted by

Ken from Jeep (Newlands branch) and assisted in how to select the correct gearing and what route to take. We then maneuvered the vehicle through the obstacle with ease. On a second departure of an obstacle, Ian, you were there to tell us what revs to use and we then were able to climb the hill. I learnt a tremendous amount of respect for the vehicle and its capabilities and learnt a lot about my Jeep in one outing thanks to the advice and assistance from the Jeep Club members. The night drive brought a new dimension into the nooks and crevices and it was a truly awesome experience and very well organised. Thanks to the Jeep Club for this very exhilarating event we thoroughly enjoyed it and can’t wait for the next outing.’ Carlo Townsend ‘Awesome trail, very well organized and great fun in the dark. (I've done a couple of night drives before). Glad to see the interest being shown by the new sponsors + the amount of new newbies, not just to the club, but also to the lifestyle.’ Ken Burton ‘Correspondence received updating the event, keeping all booked up to date on the event. On arrival at Honingklip, checked in and completed indemnity forms. Also received "goodie bag" which was really appreciated. Nice touch the Club sticker commemorating this event/trail.

Briefing by committee members, confirming format of the activity and trail etiquette and rules. Set out on the trail just after sunset, travelling in convoy. Assisting others as required to ensure the group kept together.

I really enjoyed this event, great trail. Signage on the route very good in general. Also well maintained, challenging & interesting. Fynbos well-trimmed to minimize scratching. This trail deserves another visit! Sponsors assisted with re-inflation at the trail end. Committee members also ensured that all were off the trail. A lot of effort went into making it a great event, slick
