APRIL’S CHARMSAPRIL’S CHARMS
When April scatters charms of primrose gold When April scatters charms of primrose gold
Among the copper leaves in thickets old, Among the copper leaves in thickets old,
And singing skylarks from the meadows rise, And singing skylarks from the meadows rise,
To twinkle like black stars in sunny skies;To twinkle like black stars in sunny skies;
When I can hear the small woodpecker ring When I can hear the small woodpecker ring
Time on a tree for all the birds that sing; Time on a tree for all the birds that sing;
And hear the pleasant cuckoo, loud and long -- And hear the pleasant cuckoo, loud and long --
The simple bird that thinks two notes a song;The simple bird that thinks two notes a song;
When I can hear the woodland brook, that could When I can hear the woodland brook, that could
Not drown a babe, with all his threatening mood; Not drown a babe, with all his threatening mood;
Upon these banks the violets make their home, Upon these banks the violets make their home,
And let a few small strawberry blossoms come:And let a few small strawberry blossoms come:
When I go forth on such a pleasant day, When I go forth on such a pleasant day,
One breath outdoors takes all my cares away; One breath outdoors takes all my cares away;
It goes like heavy smoke, when flames take hold It goes like heavy smoke, when flames take hold
Of wood that's green and fill a grate with gold.Of wood that's green and fill a grate with gold.

Dressing RoomIn this series where we’re following the remodel of Jørgen and Lonnie’s
second floor at their home, Lindely, we’re now getting to the smallest of
the attic rooms. The attic is original to the house, and the room is not
very big. In order to create a more usable room with a better sense of
space, the ceiling has been opened up to the ridge. The exposed beams
are left with their natural finish and help to create a cozy atmosphere in
the room. The wall facing the staircase has been replaced with a large,
beautiful, old window section with shutters. This makes the room feel
more spacious while also allowing the light to stream through to the
large landing, eliminating the need for skylights. The window section is
from Egypt and was purchased from www.genbyg.dk.
Lonnie uses the room as her dressing room. Two old farmhouse
cupboards hold her clothes. They’re both painted with Vintage paint.
The darker one was painted in ’Vintage red’ and then sanded around all
of the edges. If you’re going to sand a cupboard as much as this one,
using a sander for the job is advisable. Finally the cupboard was treated
with Antique wax in ’Brown’. The other cupboard has also been painted
with ’Vintage red’ although mixed with ’French beige’ and ’Soft cream’
to make a lighter version of the color. The cupboard has been sanded
lightly around the edges.
The secondhand radiator cover was purchased from www.genbyg.dk and
has been painted to match the walls, which are painted with Vintage
paint in ’Light petrol’ mixed with ’French beige’ and ’Soft cream’. Mixing
a color with one of the lighter colors will produce a more muted shade.
Colors that are especially well-suited for this purpose include ’Soft
cream’, which produces a quite light shade, and ’French beige’, which
yields a dustier color. Lonnie actually really likes leaving old things and
building materials with their original paint but in order to fit the radiator
cover over the radiator, they had to make new sides so it needed to be
painted to achieve a uniform look.
