Simple elegance with rustic, French elements characterizes the decor in this

wonderful apartment in the center of Hannover, Germany. The apartment is

inhabited by Meike and Adam. Meike always dreamed of l iving central ly

r ight in the heart of the city but yet she wanted an idyl l ic location. Certainly

far from every city can offer this scenario. Here in Hannover, however, the

young couple has succeeded in f inding housing that’s central ly located and

has everything they need, including a certain degree of idyl l . When you look

out the window, you see squirrels collection hazelnuts for their cache. If that

isn’t idyl l ic, we don’t know what is.

The apartment is furnished very simply with wonderful, French f inds.

The couple has added interesting twists to the decor here and there but

everything is kept within a neutral range of colors to create a sense of calm

and peace, which is very important to Meike. She can’t l ive with too many

things around her – or colors for that matter. Her Christmas decorations

are equally simple but very evocative. Once again the neutral tones are

predominant. Meike has a very soft spot for poor man’s si lver with beautiful

collections, particularly of candlesticks, around the apartment. So the

natural choice for her Christmas decorations was si lver. The combination

of the couple’s rustic, French treasures and vintage Christmas decorations

made from silver is lovely. Plenty of candles accentuate the simple and

beautiful Christmas atmosphere.

Ideas :You don’t need a lot of knick-knacks to set the mood in a room. A few

groups of l i t candles create plenty of atmosphere not just for the holidays

but year-round.

The torso of an old dress form has found its place on the f loor and is

decorated very simply with a beautiful wreath and a pair of angel wings for

Christmas. To add more depth and character to the room, Meike has chosen

a painting with darker color tones.

If you f ind a beautiful, old painting that you l ike, you could choose to remove

the frame and hang it as-is. This wil l often create a simpler look for your

decor. If your decorating style is quite simple, l ike Meike’s, a frame-less

painting f i ts in well. Just imagine if the painting had a large, grandiose frame

l ike the ones often seen with old paintings. It would steal al l the attention

in the room – you wouldn’t notice anything except the painting. This way

it becomes a more integrated part of the decor. The dark colors from the

painting recur in the dresser knobs, on the old torso and on the beautiful,

f ive-armed candle holder on the end table. The painting contributes to a

sense of calm and harmony because it isn’t the only thing with darker colors.
