ScoutsOur Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts and Girl Scoutsprograms are constantly expanding underthe leadership of exceptional men andwomen. Thanks to Boy Scout leader KevinBrosnick and Girl Scout leaders Lisa Rosen-feld, Geanine Rando and Eva Deforest, ourscouting program has been a tremendoussuccess! Boy Scout and Girl Scout meetingstake place two times per month.The JCC Scouting program offers youth anopportunity to develop skills, leadershipability and confidence while building lifelongfriendships. Through meetings, trips, com-munity service projects and workshops, thescouts learn, grow and have a great time.We also have scouting programs that servechildren with special needs.We are always looking to grow and for vol-unteers to lead and assist groups. Learning ExpressThe JCC Learning Express provides tutoring to assist students in grades K-8 with Math and Reading Skills. Both programs will be held at the Bernikow and Aberlin/North Shorelocations.

Our Special Needs Department seeks to provide developmental oppor-tunities for a wide spectrum of individuals with exceptionalities.Through recreation and other social activities our myriad of programssupport individuals from ages 5 through early adulthood. Our staff’smission is to provide opportunities for participants to improve socialskills thereby enhancing their overall well being. Staff consist of pro-

Pearl’s ProjectPearl’s Project allows for elementary schoolaged children to experience social network-ing through a secure blog. This is a great way to safely introduceour children to social networking sites suchas Facebook and Twitter.

In addition, while the senior adult is in the SAGRP program, the caregiver has anopportunity for respite and is free to run errands or tend to his or her routine activities.

Yoga for CaregiversStress Reduction through meditation with a certified Yoga Instructor. Classes are offeredevery 1st and 3rd Thursday of the month from 12:00-1:30pm. At the JCC, our core values of trust, caring, integrity, passion, happinessand personal fitness guide everything that we do at the South Shore fit-ness center. Our goal is that every member is treated like an individual andfeels supported and motivated to get fit, and most importantly, have funin the process. Visit our up to date fitness facility and get yourself into thebest shape ever. All our equipment is new including our Cardio Theater TV

system mounted on treadmills. We provide an array of services and offer an extensive selec-tion of cardiovascular fitness equipment. We have a large selection of free group exerciseclasses geared to every level. Our personnel are trained to educate members about the equip-ment and assist with workouts. Our Personal Trainers hold nationally recognized certifica-tions and are CPR/AED certified. Two complimentary 30 minute orientations are required for each new member and shouldbe scheduled by a personal trainer upon joining. This orientation is a basic demonstration ofthe safe and effective operation of the cardio and strength training equipment. Some of theseorientations grow into a comprehensive fitness assessment session (Personal Training) andrelationships between the member and trainer are well established as you reach your goals.

The JCC Stapleton Neighborhood Senior Center offers a wide variety of services to stim-ulate both body and mind. The nutritional program includes a warm, healthy and hearty,breakfast and lunch. Physical activities, taught by certified instructors include Tai-Chi, Yoga, aerobics, chair exercises and line dancing. The JCC/Beacon program at TottenvilleHigh School provides opportunities tocommunity residents of the south shore ofStaten Island. Our goal is to offer addi-tional services such as: academic tutoring,recreation, leadership development andsocial services, all free of charge to ourcommunity. As we enter our third year at Tottenville,we will be serving over 1,800 students andadults each month. We will continue tooffer services and activities that are nec-essary but not as available to our commu-nity residents as they would like. We willtry and be a resource for a lack of servicesthat our community residents’ desire.

Similar to the IS 49 program, there isan afterschool program for children followed by diverse activities for adults in theevening. Activities at the Beacon Satellite are age appropriate and based on the ex-pressed needs and interests of the participants. In April, 2011 Cornerstone moved intothe Gerard Carter Community Center. Regularly scheduled afterschool, evening andSaturday programs include academic, recreational, social services, and the arts.
