Bring your pets along on your trip to PlumasCounty!

Dogs will love romping through the open space, sniffing outsquirrels and fetching sticks in the lakes and creeks.

There are numerous forest trails and special campsites whereyou can take your horses.

You’ll find over 50 accommodations where pets are welcometo stay with their owners (see Pages 100-111.) Some restau-rants with outdoor seating even welcome your pets.

Or take your pet camping in the great outdoors. Some facili-ties charge a small fee and most require pets to be on aleash.

On trails in the national forest, leashes are optional but pre-ferred. Be sure to carry a leash in order to keep your dogsafe and under control.

Within the state and national parks, dogs are required to beon leashes at all times and are not allowed on hiking trails.

Please take caution in the woods and keep your pet with youat all times to avoid encounters with wildlife.

It’s a good idea to leave your pet indoors should you be gonefor a long time.

If you need a veterinarian or kennel service during your visit,you’ll find many that are available or on call.

Treat your pets to a vacation in a place where they’ll love tospend some quality time with you.

WHAT’S NEW at Robbs Valley Resort

A new team, designed to take a few dragons off Scott’s back up so he can concentrate more on his special tal-ents in cooking, beverage and hospitality.

The 2007 season has been great, with Rod Perry and Carol Martinelli adding new layers of management and taking the food and hospitality to a new level.Robbs hosted the Jeepers Jamboree,Friends of the Rubi-con and had the best Chili Cook-Off yet, helping to raise $11,000 for the make-a-wish foundation.

Our goal now is to increase the number of events, in-crease the recreational equipment for rent, and expand the lodging so we can accommodate families and groups.

The two Park Model cabins have worked well for us, and survived the winter nicely. We are interested in adding another 8 or 10 Park model cabins, by long term leas-ing sites and selling Park models to people that will use them for their personal pleasure 25% of the time, and make them available to rent on an income sharing ba-sis the rest of the time. We have very favorable financ-ing, like no money down and about $550 a month for 24 months, then $1000 a month. Income should offset much of that.

Boat rentals have been picking up, particularly with the pontoon boat, deck boat and two fishing boats. We now have kayaks for rent, and, in the near future, ATVs. Most people are finding it easier to rent our boats versus towing their own boat up the hill.

So everyone is having fun at Robbs. We hope you will come up, and let us know if we can plan your family reunion, wedding or special event.

Our playground at elevation 4,550 feet spreads across a natural wonderland created by millions of years of geologic forces, a crossroad where the granite of the Sierra Nevada meets the lava of the Cascades. The 1.2 million acres that make up the surrounding Lassen National Forest also boasts the Caribou Wilderness area and over 300 campsites. It is a playground for all seasons, for all ages and any lifestyle.

Lake Almanor is one of the state’s largest man-made lakes, with 52 miles of shoreline, year-round fishing and majestic views of Lassen Peak, the southernmost volcano in the Cascade range. The lake is 13 miles long and six miles wide, with a surface area of 28,000 acres. Sum-mer lake surface temperatures of about 75 de-grees make it ideal for water sports, including water-skiing, sailing, wakeboarding, jet skiing and kayaking.

Fishermen can find rainbow and brown trout, small mouth bass, catfish and king salmon in Lake Almanor. The North Fork of the Feather River, Hamilton Branch and Yellow Creek offer excellent fly-fishing. Nearby Butt Valley Reservoir is widely known as a great fishery for trout.

The Basin and surrounding area also offers camping, hik-ing, biking, horseback riding, birdwatching, championship golf, hunting and fall foliage viewing. Winter brings the quiet beauty of Lassen Peak keeping watch over pristine fields of snow and groomed trails for snowshoeing, cross-country ski-ing and snowmobiling.

The Chester-Lake Almanor area has full service marinas, launch ramps and rentals. There are numerous pine-sheltered campgrounds operated by PG&E and the U.S. Forest Service, in addition to private campgrounds. The area also offers rural hospitality and lodging at a variety of private resorts, motels, bed and breakfast inns, cabins and luxury home rentals.

Among the area’s other amenities are a host of eateries, from fine dining restaurants to casual cafes. Shoppers can enjoy browsing Chester’s Main Street which offers a full array of quaint gift shops and stores.

The remarkable hydrothermal features in nearby Lassen Vol-canic National Park include roaring fumaroles (steam and volcanic-gas vents), thumping mud pots, boiling pools, and steaming ground, evidence of the volcano’s last eruption in 1921. Experience them along the park road or from more than 150 miles of hiking trails and eight campgrounds in pristine, untouched wilderness. The new Kohm Ya-mah-nee Visitor Center, which opened last fall, is open daily and lo-cated at the park’s southwest entrance. It features an exhibit hall, indoor theater and outdoor amphitheater, bookstore, gift shop and cafe.

With just nine people per square mile, and no stoplights, the Almanor Basin in Plumas County offers OWAC members a truly outdoors conference setting, with a plethora of story material.

ACTIONRod action refers to the flex characteristics of a rod, varying from Slow to Extra-Fast. An Extra-Fast

action rod flexes mainly at the tip. Slower (or softer) action rods flex throughout the entire

length of the rod. Moderate action falls in between. We tailor the action of each of our

rods to the particular fishing application for which they’re designed, taking into

account the preferred lure action, optimum casting range, fighting power, the

feel of the rod, and countless other variables.

POWERWe rate the power of our rods on a scale of 00 to 8. This rating should

give you an idea of how each rod in the series compares in terms

of lifting, lighting and casting strength. Because each series is rated

independently, a 2-power Spin Jig rod, for example, does not feel

the same as a 2-power Steelhead rod. Another way to measure

power is resistance to flex or how much each specific rod bends

under a load. The 2-power rod flexes more easily than a 3-power

and so on. Generally speaking, the heavier your choice of line and

Traditional Golf Swing vs. Single Pivot Golf Swing

If I told you that I could eliminate two (2) steps in the golf swing, improve your distance and your accuracy, would you be interested? I believe the Single Pivot Golf Swing, as taught by Al Geiberger, Tony Manzoni and myself, accomplishes this lofty goal.

The Single Pivot Swing is a modified “Stack and Tilt” golf swing that is being utilized by some of the top PGA Tour Players in the world today. It involves a redistribution of the players’ weight so that the golf club can be delivered more consistently, back to the ball in a more balanced direct fashion, thereby providing better ball striking, better distance and better accuracy on a more consistent basis.
