We are all hopeful that that we can return to normalcy by next summer. With the resurgence of COVID-19 cases over the holidays, we hope that you are staying safe and adhering to the protecve guidelines. We just had a historic snowstorm to start off the winter and this will provide a great start to the seasonal sports and acvies, we look forward to seeing people snow shoeing, skang and snowmobiling. Please enjoy these acvies in a safe manner and respect the rules and guidance that are in place for your and the communitys safety. As we say goodbye to 2020, the year will be remembered mainly for the effects that COVID-19 has had on the commu- nity. Personally, it was a difficult introducon to being the president of South Down; I did learn that, as with any com- munity, there are a variety of views and opinions. The vast majority of our owners are very understanding and enjoy being part of our community; it is a lile different from having a regular non-associaon home. There are many rules, regulaons, and requirements for acceptable behavior for our owners, their families and their guests. It is apparent that a few either did not un- derstand these requirements when purchasing in South Down or they believe that the rules just do not apply to them or their families, their acons can create difficult situaons for their neighbors in our community. Many of our facilies are shared and some people believe that they can do anything they want, which affects the other members of the com- munity. Enjoying our community in a safe and re- specul manner is encouraged. In 2020 some failed to live up to these standards of basic decency and behavior that we as a community should be able to expect from each and everyone in South Down. In my opinion the way to deal with this is not to have more rules. Rather I would appeal to our owners to ensure that their family members and guests understand that all acvies and behaviors are con- sistent with our common goals for all to enjoy our facilies. SOUTH DOWN NEWSLETTER Letter from the President If someone associated with you, your unit, your golf cart or other property, is not acting in a reasonable manner, you need to help us deal with the problem. Late night use of golf carts in a respectful manner is not a problem, racing, loudness and abuse from, or at, users of golf carts is not acceptable. Stealing of signs, vandalism to property and seasonal displays in never acceptable. Speeding, failure to stop or be re-spectful of others is unacceptable. Aggressive reactions and taking enforcement into your own hands in also not acceptable. We need people to report problems and not attempt to enforce the rules independently. Our community is a great place to live and enjoy, we are financially secure, our properties attract premium prices, and

they are very much in demand. The majority of our owners, their families and their guests enjoy our community with-

    out issue.

In January, at the council meeting, we will hold the annual elections for the Executive Officers. This in-

cludes election of the president, vice-president, treasurer, secretary and two directors. This group along

with the past president, are responsible for the governance of all SDRA business matters between the

quarterly council meetings. Other than the president, who must be a member of the council, all other

positions are open to owners who would like to be considered and voted for by the council members. If

you are interested, please submit a short bio to the management company prior to the mid January council

meeting. We are fortunate to have many owners who volunteer their time and effort to benefit the community.

It has been an honor to have been elected your president for 2020, and I hope that with your and the council’s support

to be re-elected to the position for 2021. There was a lot to learn in 2020 during a very challenging year. I hope that I

will be re-elected in order to serve the community going forward.

Plan for Summer 2021 Boating Season!

Irwin Marine hopes that each of you had a wonderful holiday season.

According to Robert W. Baird, in partnership with Marine Retailers Association of the Americas (MRAA) and Soundings

Trade Only Magazine who presented the October 2020 Marine Retailer Pulse Report, “New boat inventory remains

incredibly lean, with 88% of dealers reporting new boat inventory was “too low.” Used boat inventory is also very

lean, with 78% of dealers responding it is “too low.” We asked dealers what they expect the largest challenge facing

this industry next year will be. Nearly 70% reported "obtaining inventory".

“We’re looking forward to a great boating season in 2021. We hope you get out on the water and enjoy yourselves.

We anticipate the boating season to be like this past summer. It will be hard to order a boat in the Spring, so we hope

you’ll plan ahead for new or used boat purchases.” Says Bill Irwin. If a new or used boat might be in your future, it is

time to act. Contact your marina and start the process.

LONG BAY NEWSLETTER Letter from the President

I’d like to start by wishing happy New Year to all the residents of Long Bay as well as our neigh-bors in South Down. I would also like to echo some of the sentiments expressed by South Down President, Steve Murfitt. Like Steve, this has been my first year as President of Long Bay. It cer-tainly has been a challenging one. COVID has presented us all with difficulties. The

most obvious has been ongoing concerns for everyone’s health. However, there have been more sub-tle complications and related stresses. Both Long Bay and South Down have experienced situations in which a small number of residents and their guests created disturbances and safety issues that have affected the rest of us. For the Long Bay Board, this has required us to carefully review our existing rules and enforcement practices and policies. This is a process that continues to date. It has also resulted in our reaching out to South Down to recognize our joint safety and enforcement concerns. We expect those coordinated efforts to continue into the new year as we plan for 2021. In the meantime, we encourage all residents of Long Bay and South Down to speak out if you experience any activity you believe is disturbing or unsafe. I would like to convey some good news: Our clubhouse renovation project is completed. If we can do so safely, we hope to have an open house or other similar activity for everyone to see the result in the spring. We also hope to come up with new, cost effective ways to furnish and use the clubhouse so that more of us can enjoy it. By the way, I need to mention my personal belief that the view from the clubhouse across Paugus Bay is partic-ularly beautiful.

As a new President of Long Bay, I would like to thank the other Board members and officers, past and present for their service. I would also like to paraphrase some thoughts from our new Treasur-er, Susan Reilly. Susan has also reflected on the past year and has suggested that we recognize the efforts of others. She has expressed the following sentiments:

First, thanks to our Long Bay Garden Club. They start just before Memorial Day and devote their time, planting, fertilizing, watering and tending to areas throughout Long Bay. Their work includes gardens near the water tower, the boat docks, the club house and other locations and planters along the way. Then in the Fall, they head back out and plant our Mums. Next, thanks to our social committee. With COVID, they were unable to work on many of our usual activities. We particularly miss our pool parties and hope to be able to resume them next year. However, one event they were able to hold was our Long Bay/South Down golf cart parade. What a parade! We believe it was the best golf cart parade ever. The longer route was a treat and the turnout, clapping and cheering was a welcome lift to everyone’s spirits. We have a number of individuals and groups who also deserve recognition. This includes the Boards of our Villages, their presidents and other officers. Thanks to our building committee, tree committee, and boat club committee. We also recognize two new standing committees. Our recently formed finance committee has assisted our Treasurer in reviewing the records and coming up with ways to streamline the Association’s bookkeeping and financial accounting. We also have a new security committee to work in con-junction with South Down to address our joint security and safety concerns. When we head into the spring and summer, we expect this committee to take an active role in hiring and overseeing our security guard(s) and working on any other problems that arise. LONG BAY NEWSLETTER Letter from the President Then, we have a group of residents who notice something needs to be done, and without being asked, step up to do it. This includes those who volunteered their time and work on the clubhouse renova-tion last summer. This fall, a group headed to the beach with a trailer to load all the beach chairs and store them for the winter. On another fall weekend, a small group spent time at the North beach, cleaned it, then cut back the brush and hauled it all away, greatly improving the view. In December, a group of volunteers hung wreaths on the lampposts and strung lights at the entrance of Long Bay. Finally, thanks to those who work for Long Bay and South Down. This includes CBH and other landscapers. We thank Linda and Robin of Evergreen. We also thank our Bookkeeper, Kandi Edson. Thanks to Peter Waligora for

keeping our web site up to date. A special thank you to Charlie Laros for all his years of service for helping manage and maintain our property. All of us on the Long Bay Board look forward with hope and wish the residents of Long Bay and South Down the best for 2021.

    Best Regards, Jay Niederman

    President
