From the President

We all know that Thursday Musical has a long

and rich history, but how do you keep an old

organization like TM vital and relevant in

today’s world?

That is the challenge facing your Thursday

Musical Board of Directors, and we are meeting

it head-on. We have hired a consultant to evalu-

ate our organization and she has made some

very specific suggestions, including putting

together a marketing plan. We often say that

Thursday Musical is a well-kept secret, and we

want to change that! We want everyone to know

what we are and what we do. Who else in the

Twin Cities has three concert series featuring

local musicians, as well as a Young Artist

Scholarship Competition?

So what are we evaluating? Basically

everything, including where we hold our con-

certs, expanding our audiences, improving our

finances, which includes applying for grants and

possibly holding fundraisers, and even our name

(it’s a good name, but rather dated).

But the TM Board can’t do this alone. We

need your help. Do you work for a company that

matches contributions? Do you have any

connections to foundations or corporate giving

programs? If you do, please contact me.

One area that we are continuing to improve

upon and examine is marketing and develop-

ment. So, I am putting together a Marketing

Committee, to look into ways to “market” TM

and I need your help. This is your opportunity

to have input into the future of Thursday Musi-

cal. If you have a background in marketing or

publicity, or an interest in them, I would love to

hear from you. Or, if you just have ideas or sug-

gestions on how we can meet the challenges of

today’s world, please call me (651 426-1238) or

email me ([email protected]) and let’s talk!

scholarship awards are also given. Additional

student performance opportunities may be

offered through the American Association of

University Women, the Woman’s Club of

Minneapolis, Baby Blue Arts TV and Friendship

Performing on a Young Artist Recital is a

Spring Home Programs

Think Spring! Thursday Musical’s Home

Programs will be on April 24, 2014. These

wonderful solo and chamber music concerts

are often a favorite among members. Reserva-

tions can be made online at thursdaymusi-

cal.org or by phone at 612-333-0313.

Four Thursday Musical members have

graciously offered their homes for these

programs. Deirdre Michael-Mechelke in Apple

Valley, Shirley and Michael Santoro in

Maplewood, and Carol White in Minneapolis

will host the morning programs at 10:30 AM

with coffee served at 10:00 AM. Mary Kirchner

will host the evening program in Edina at 7:30

PM with dessert at 7:00 PM.

Consider volunteering to be a food hostess

or a greeter for one of the venues. It is an

excellent way to meet members.
