ARTS COUNCIL MEETING THURSDAY, JANUARY 4, 2016; 3:00 PM

KIAWAH ISLAND MUNICIPAL CENTER COUNCIL CHAMBERS

MINUTES

I. Call to Order: Mrs. Johnson called the meeting to order at 3:00PM.

II. FOIA: Notice of this meeting has been published and posted in accordance with

A. 2015/2016 Arts Council and Cultural Events Season Calendar and Financial Review

The committee discussed the following events:

Mrs. Johnson stated that for Bria Skonberg there will be an extra charge for piano pickup because it has to be done outside of normal business hours. Ms. Rush stated that she has received the Washington Sax Quartet program and needs to revise it to accommodate the CSU musicians. Mrs. Chitwood asked the committee for Liquid Pleasure if the dancefloor needs to be 24ft. She has an option for a 21ft dancefloor for $100 less. The committee decided on the 24ft. Mr. Hill stated that he is working on reducing the biographies for the program for the CSO Beethoven event. Mrs. Johnson stated that Judy Carmichael accommodations have been finalized. She stated that Judy has sent a schedule for rehearsals to be sent to Jeri at the River Course for approval. Mr. Blizard stated that the AC will be supplying the stage and chairs. There is a possibility that we can use the stage from Seabrook Island House and he will check their availability and their fee for delivery. Mrs. Chitwood stated that the 3rd event of the Quentin Baxter Jazz Series Christian Tamburr will be a CD release party. Mrs. Hilstad stated that Joshua Roman would like to play solo cello without accompanist. The committee discussed and decided that they do not think the audience would enjoy cello

alone. Mrs. Hilstad presented his proposed repertoire. The committee agreed for him to perform several solo pieces but their expectation was with an accompanist. Mrs. Johnson stated that for the Pizzarelli event there is a $10 ticket sold in house and online. Ms. Braswell will attend that night and help verify online tickets.

VIII. Committee Member Comments:

Mrs. Johnson stated that the applications for Cultural Events were posted January 6, 2016 Application Submission Deadline is February 5, 2016 at 12:00 noon. Application Selection is February 18, 2016 at 9:00 a.m. at Town Hall. Applicant’s presence not required. Mrs. Johnson reminded the committee that next year’s contracts cannot go out until Town Council approved that budget in June. Contracts can begin being mailed out July 1. Mrs. Chitwood stated that Adam Parker from the Post and Courier is writing an article on the Quentin Baxter Series to be published in Sunday’s paper. Mr. Hill stated that he will be on vacation January17th -30th and won’t be able to help with events. Mr. Hill stated that he has started promotion of his events at Bishop Gadson and Frankie’s at Seaside. Mrs. Chitwood stated that she has received feedback that there is not enough chamber music in the program.

Mr. Blizard motioned to adjourn the meeting at 5:00 PM. Mr. McCollum seconded the motion. The motion carried unanimously.
