Society of St. Vincent de Paul
Archdiocese Galveston/Houston
Dear Immaculate Conception-Industry,
We cannot thank you enough for all of the support you have
given our mission this past year. You helped us respond to an
immediate need and allowed us to be present in communities
that most needed our services. The unforeseen events that
unraveled this year left us feeling vulnerable, but with your
help, we were able to see your faith and generosity work
together to make miracles happen. Thank you for making a
difference in 2020.
Gifts of Stock to Your Parish
Many parishioners prayerfully make their end of year gifts at this time. The office of Development at the Downtown Chancery is available to assist our parish and community with these transactions. The Letter of Intent form, which is the necessary document to initiate a donation of stock and to allow proper donor identification and parish benefit, is available from the Archdiocesan website: https://www.archgh.org/ways-to-give
Please direct inquiries about gifts of stock to your parish to Michael Schillaci (713-652-4418) or Michelle Munoz (713-652-8242) for the proper procedures.
Saint Christopher’s Holy Card
Saint Christopher, whose name means: Christ Bearer, wanted to lead a life that would be pleasing to God, yet one that would use his gift of great strength. He began helping people cross a deep and dangerous river, and soon became known for his love of Christ and the people whom he was able to help. Today, we know him as the patron saint of travelers. He is definitely a good friend in heaven, to have interceding for us.
Immaculate Conception Altar Society Donations In the absence of the annual bake sale last year, all ladies of Immaculate Conception Church are asked to consider making a donation to the Altar Society. You can give your donations to JoAnn Reichle or to Neely Vasicek.
Remember to Pray the Rosary
The rosary is the book of the blind, where souls see and there enact the greatest drama of love the world has ever known; it is the book of the simple, which initiates them into mysteries and knowledge more satisfying than the education of other men; it is the book of the aged, whose eyes close upon the shadow of this world, and open on the substance of the next. The power of the rosary is beyond
description. – Bishop Fulton J. Sheen.

DID YOU KNOW?…FROM
NOBELPRIZE.ORG At the age of thirty-five, Martin Luther King, Jr., was the youngest man to have received the Nobel Peace Prize. When notified of his selection, he announced that he would turn over the prize money of $54,123 to the furtherance of the civil rights movement.
On the evening of April 4, 1968, while standing on the balcony of his motel room in Memphis, Tennessee, where he was to lead a protest march in sympathy with striking garbage workers of that
city, he was assassinated.
Obedience to the call of God
Today’s first reading, like the Gospel, is a call narrative. In both texts God is drawing people into his service, while others – Eli and John, respectively – look on. These two are only peripherally involved in today’s short stories. They play a necessary interpretive role, however, in the encounter between their disciples and the Word of God. Both of today’s stories also teach us in what obedience to God’s word consists. Eli instructs the young Samuel to respond to God’s call with a prayer, “Speak, Lord, for your servant is listening.” The two disciples of John the Baptist act immediately on his word, “Behold, the Lamb of God.” They not only follow Jesus but stay (remain) with him. These then are the characteristics of obedience: attentive listening in prayer and active seeking that ends in presence.
To these Paul adds another characteristic of obedience. Against those in Corinth whose obedience was purely spiritual, that is, excluding their bodies, Paul affirms that the obedience of faith is the free response of the whole person to God, to whom the body as well as the soul belongs. .
