Fr. Brian “Behind

the Mask”

Always in the spiritual life, we need to be on the look-out for the dastardly “D’s”; those sug-gestions of the Enemy which get us so off-course in our thoughts and which affect our actions. Some of Satan’s main tactics are to encourage us to disappointment, discouragement, distain, distrust, delusion, and despair. [Add your own “D’s” here].

Being true “Hearers” of the Word allows us to fight against these “D’s” in our thinking and feeling. We must daily ask God to give us the grace to be aware and understand when the Ene-my is trying to move us away from God and His Command-ments. With the Holy Spirit’s help, we will be able to put the Lord’s teaching of love and trust into practice, and become bet-ter “Doers” of the Word, for our salvation and for the build-up of the Kingdom.

Students of Saint James School began the new academic year this past Thursday. The Saint James School faculty and parent volunteers spent much time and energy this summer promoting and preparing for a year full of exciting opportunities for learning and fellowship. Our school recently hosted all the teachers of the North Hills Regional Catholic Elementary Schools, of which Saint James School is a part, for their annual in-service. I had an occasion to address this assembly of edu-cators and encourage them to continue celebrating our Catholic School identity, one which foremost promotes the human per-son as a sovereign individual, loved by God the Father.

We know that so many of our secular institutions of learning are struggling with the problem of correctly addressing the cultural and social issues of our time. There is a serious crisis of rela-tionship and identity. We have been given the answer that solves all the confusion, narcissism and mistrust: Our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Through Him we build relationships with one another. In Him do we find our true selves. With Him, we are brought to the Truth. We are proud to profess Jesus in our Catholic Schools

Just a reminder of that our Brothers of Saint Joseph men’s group continues their monthly Holy Hours into the Fall. The next one is Thursday, September 2. Working fathers are especially welcome to enjoy fraternity, prayer, reconciliation, Adoration and fellowship at St. Mary’s Church at 7:00pm.

Monday, September 6.

We will reopen Tuesday, September 7 at 9:00am.

The Mass schedule for Monday, September 6

(Labor Day) is as follows:

St. Vincent dePaul, Divine Redeem-er conference, continues to assist our neighbors in need whether it be food, clothing or housing. Many of you have probably read that the fed-eral government moratorium on rent-al assistance may be coming to an end. It is very likely that our Divine Redeemer conference will need ad-ditional funding to serve those fami-lies who may be facing evictions.

Please consider supporting this housing issue for many of our neighbors. Thank you for what ever you can do for us. You can deposit an envelope in the Sunday collection basket marked for the Divine Redeemer/St. Vincent de Paul. Checks can be made out to Saint Vincent dePaul Society.

Our parish sympathy is extended to the family of GINGER CURCIO who passed away recently.

May her soul and all the souls

of the faithful departed rest in peace.

The Sacrament of Bap sm will be available any Sunday of the month. Couples expec ng a child should a end Bap sm class. To make arrange-ments for a Bap sm please go to the parish website at www.divine-redeemer.com/bap sm and fill out the bap smal registra on form. The Sacrament of Marriage requires that the couple meet with the Pastor at least six (6) months before the proposed date of the wedding. Please email Deacon Tom Lopus at [email protected] for more informa on.

Hospitalized and Homebound parishioners please contact us or have a family member do so: (412) 741-6650. If you are in need of prayer and would welcome the spiritual support of your parish family, please call Carolyn Oblak for St. Mary at (412)576-9707, via email at [email protected] or Connie for St. James at (412)741-5611.

St. James School families attended the annual Pan-cakes in the Park this past Sunday, August 22. The

event kicks off the school year and our new principal, Mr. Murray, was able to join us as well! Thank you to the Knights of Columbus for serving the pan-cakes and to Mike Killian, realtor at Berkshire Hathaway in Sewickley, for donating the Starbucks coffee.
