Gospel Reflection

The Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ

It is no wonder that followers of Christ are called the Body of Christ. After all, sharing in the same spiritual food and sacred meal, they become what they eat and reveal the Divine Image. There is so much power for healing in the community of believers. Through the Eucharist, Christ becomes as present in those who have partaken of his Body and Blood as he has the elements themselves. The very presence of God touches the depths of the human soul and visits a part of us that no human being can ever hope to explore. We are God’s. The sacred Eucharistic meal is a celebration of intimacy, the reunion of two loves in constant search of and longing for the other.

The community of believers receives the power and the presence to touch and heal in the name of the One they have welcomed within. It is now within their grasp to change the way life is lived and to more intentionally put into practice the Beatitudes that the Divine Guest has revealed. We are asked to be like Christ and work to create a world of sufficiency, where the greed of some no longer creates the want of others but where all of God’s children can find a home and a place at the table of life. The One who makes a home within calls us to live a life that transforms. We are changed ourselves and now become agents of change for others. We are the Body of Christ. God is with us. We have been nourished.

Sadly, many are afraid to try. We know what we are called to do, but we struggle with feelings of doubt as to whether God really is the Way, the Truth, and the Life. Do our systems have to change? Is it possible that we somehow missed the mark when we put all of our social networks in place and established the business of our lives? Perhaps we have to radically rethink our approach and that can scare us. We might have to give something up or change, and we don’t want to. As long as want, injustice, division, prejudice, and scarcity still exit, there is tremendous work for the Body of Christ. ©LPi

Faith Formation News

First Eucharist Celebrations: First Eucharist celebrations were originally scheduled for Sunday, may3, but were postponed. As we re-open the churches, we look forward to rescheduling First Eucharist. Details will be coming soon.

Baptisms: Private Baptisms may now be scheduled. Please contact Kathy Murphy for more information.

Confirmation: We are in the planning stages for the new class of Confirmation students which will be students in 7th and 8th grade for 2020-2021. Please let us know if you have any students interested in preparing for the sacrament of Confirmation this coming year.

The Diocese has not established the rescheduled Confirmation date yet for the fall for those who were scheduled to receive Confirmation in April. Confirmation students have continued meeting through Zoom. These meetings have been both prayerful and fun, the last one being a trivia game.

Thank you to our catechists and families for helping us stay connected through the challenges presented by COVID-19.

Faith Formation: Thanks to catechist Jessica O’Connell for continuing our lessons remotely! The Catechism of the Catholic Church emphasizes that families are the primary edu-cators of their children’s faith. Jessica’s videos have provided ways for families to learn more about their faith at home. Students have been learning about the Eucharist being the source and summit of our faith as well as May being the month of Mary.

Totus Tuus: Unfortunately, the Diocese has canceled Totus Tuus for this summer.

The following is the list of graduation events that have taken place over the past week: Starting on May 31, we honored one eighth grader

a day for seventeen days on our school’s Facebook Page.

On Tuesday, June 9, from 7:00 PM to 7:30 PM, we had a drive through parade for our graduates in the church parking lot. Families of graduates were strategically placed (SOCIAL DISTANCING IN PLACE) and other school families, friends, teachers, and relatives drove through honking horns and sending good wishes.

There is a banner posted on our school’s fence that says CONGRATULATIONS!

We had a virtual graduation on Thursday, June 11, at 7:00 PM through ZOOM.

Congratulations to the Class of 2020!

Ordinary Time

The every seven-day celebration of the Lord’s Day is the basic structure upon which the Church Year is built. The great liturgical seasons of Advent-Christmas and Lent-Easter are more expansive celebrations of particular aspects of the one paschal mystery which we celebrate every Lord’s Day. These special seasons focus our attention upon critical dimensions of one mystery, a mystery so overwhelming that we are compelled to separate out its various elements for particular attention. These seasons in no way minimize the critical importance of the Sunday celebration throughout the rest of the year. Ordinary Time is not very ordinary at all. Ordinary Time, the celebration of Sunday, is the identifying mark of the Christian community which comes together, remembering that on this first day of the week the Lord of Life was raised up and creation came at last to completion. Sunday as a day of play and worship is a sacrament of redeemed time. How we live Sunday proclaims to the world what we believe about redeemed time now and for ever. Vestment colors are used to represent the mood of the Mass being celebrated. There are four standard vestment colors. Green, a sign of life and growth, represents Ordinary Time

Please remember the sick, including ~ Don Place, Cathy Place, Elaine Letourneau, Janet Sausville, Tina Harrington, Ray Vivaldi, A.J. Morton, Eden Jeannine Beckwith, Cindy Levitte, Christopher Rubino, Lena Reap, Dolores Pruden, Ruth Emaish, Matthew Rubino, Abigail Grace Lamar, Wilfred LaBonte, Therese Long, Gloria VanDerzee, Adrianna Dewey, Kenneth Swierad, Kathy Keenan, and this week we remember the residents of Fillmore Pond.

A Prayer for Protection in Time of Pandemic

O Mary, you always brighten our path

as a sign of salvation and of hope. We entrust ourselves to you, Health of the Sick,

who, at the Cross, took part in Jesus’ pain while remaining steadfast in faith.

O loving Mother, you know what we need,

and we are confident you will provide for us as at Cana in Galilee.

Intercede for us with your Son Jesus, the Divine Physician,

for those who have fallen ill, for those who are vulnerable, and for those who have died.

Intercede also for those charged with protecting the health and safety of others and for those who are tending to the sick

and seeking a cure.

Help us, O Mother of Divine Love, to conform to the will of the Father and to do as we are told by Jesus,

who took upon himself our sufferings and carried our sorrows, so as to lead us, through the Cross,

to the glory of the Resurrection. Amen.

Under thy protection we seek refuge, O Holy Mother of God.

In our needs, despise not our petitions, but deliver us always from all dangers, O glorious and blessed Virgin. Amen.

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, It is with an abundance of joy and gratitude that I an-nounce the first phase of the reopening of our churches to celebrate daily and Sunday Mass beginning June 1. The obligation to attend Sunday Mass remains lifted un-til further notice, especially if you are part of a vul-nerable population and/or have an underlying health condi-tion. Please approach the celebration of Mass with charity and love for our clergy and faith community by following the protocols: • Stay home if you are sick or not feeling well. • Wear a mask in Mass. • Sanitize your hands upon entry. Due to shortages of sanitizer, please bring your own if possible. • Sit in designated pews and respect social distance be-tween others of 6 feet or more unless you are one family unit. • Refrain from congregating in tight areas or entering cordoned off areas. • Follow the protocols to receive Holy Communion as directed at Mass. • Follow your church protocols regarding registration if nec-essary due to the 25% capacity limit. While these protocols are intrusive, they are necessary as they allow us to celebrate the Sacraments in person while doing our part to help stop the spread of coronavirus.

Sincerely yours in Christ,

The Most Reverend Christopher J. Coyne Bishop of Burlington

Important Update

The Diocese is postponing the transitional diaconate ordination for Robert Murphy in anticipation and with hope that churches will be opening up for more people to attend. At this point the date is to be determined.
