From Page 11Overtime was also needed to

decide the winner of the Bantam Tier 2 final, with Saanich Braves outscoring Everett Junior Silver-tips U14s 6-5 Tuesday at Minoru Arenas. Richmond’s Bantam A2 team was 0-4 in the tournament, while Seafair A2s went 0-3-1.

Though both the Prince George Cougars and Terrace were anx-ious to get home, it took double overtime to decide the Midget Tier 2 final, with Prince George (6-0-1) outlasting Terrace (6-1-0) 5-4 on the strength of Bret Wakabayashi’s rebound goal at 16:57 of the second extra period.

Teammate Nicholas Potskin’s un-assisted goal at 18:44 of the third period had forced overtime.

Terrace, which was up 4-2 go-ing into the final frame, got some consolation with Ryan Rose-boom earning tournament MVP honours. He led all players with 11 goals and 25 points in seven

games.With a 2-2-1 record, Richmond

Midget Blues A2 failed to ad-vance to the playoffs as did Sea-fair Midget Islanders A2 which also went 2-2-1.

Littleton Hawks, whose only loss was a 2-0 setback to Rich-mond Blues A1, overcame a 2-0

first-period deficit to win the Midget A1 title with a 4-3 victory over Semiahmoo Ravens (4-2-1), also Tuesday at Minoru Arenas. Caleb Vigil’s goal at 12:24 of the third period proved to be the dif-ference.

Prince George's Bret Wakabayashi (left) tries to keep pace with Ter-race's Ryna Roseboom during Midget A2 Division fi nal at the Rich-mond International Hockey Tournament Tuesday at Minoru Arenas.

From Page W3Though he was held off the scoresheet

in the fi nal game, Littleton forward Cody Oakes (who had six goals in seven games) was selected tournament MVP for his divi-sion.

“We went into our fi rst tournament game (a 3-0 win over Burnaby Bulldogs last Friday) not knowing much about the teams or really what to expect,” said Oakes. “But after losing to Richmond, I re-ally think that was the turning point for us. We needed to focus and play more as a team.”

Oakes and his teammates were coming off winning the Colorado state champi-onship in December, and look forward to

playing for the U.S. national title in New Jersey in March.

“It will be my second time at nationals and I’d really like to win it,” said Oakes, who is realistic about his hockey future. “We’ll see, but I’m hoping to play junior."

Richmond's Midget Blues A1 went 4-1, their only loss 4-0 to Prince George last Friday.

Yale Academy (4-1-2) scored early and often in overwhelming North Island Sil-vertips 8-1 in the Midget Major Division fi nal Tuesday at Minoru. Captain Kohen Olischefski, who opened the scoring just 1:41 into the game, earned the nod as the tournament MVP. He had nine points in seven games.

“I was pleased to see the amount of par-ity in the majority of the games this year,” said tournament chairperson Wendy Steadman. “A lot of the games were de-cided by the goaltenders.”

Outside of one negative incident in which a Surrey player got into an alterca-tion with an offi cial following a Midget Division game between the Surrey Hur-ricanes and Prince George Cougars Sun-day—a matter now being reviewed by BC Hockey—Steadman said she was pleased to see the level of respect aff orded the of-fi cials.

“Overall, the coaches were very compli-mentary about how well the games were offi ciated,” she said.
