Welcome!
Thank you for your interest in the Jackson Yacht Club. We have attempted to fill this folder
with everything you might find useful in getting to know more about the Club, but there is no
better source of information on the benefits of joining the Yacht Club than our members. If this
folder was given to you by a member then you already know that we are a friendly and
welcoming club, so feel free to ask about anything. If you received this folder from a one of our
fine staff, or if you just picked one up in the club lobby, please feel free to ask for an introduction
to a member by approaching our staff that will help you get to know us better.
There are a couple of things about JYC that I want you to know right from the beginning:
One, Jackson Yacht Club is a club for everyone, not just boat owners! While it is a big part of
our mission to promote the sport of sailing, boating, other water sports and water safety, you do
not have to own a boat to join JYC! We have many members whose primary interests lie outside
of boating and many simply enjoy our facilities and social activities. If you do not have a boat
but are interested in boating, then this is your place too. We have club owned boats available for
use and members willing to share their boat handling knowledge and skills with you.
Second, even more than being about boating or having the best location on the Reservoir, or a
great clubhouse with fine dining, JYC is about people. Our members are among the best and
friendliest you will meet anywhere!
I hope you will give serious consideration to joining the Jackson Yacht Club soon. A
membership application is included in this folder. If you need an introduction to club members
with interests similar to yours, call our office or let me know and someone will assist you.
Finally, if there is anything you want to know about JYC that we have not covered in this
material, please call Membership Services Office at 601-856-8844, ext 15.
Sincerely,
Jamie McBride

Boat Harbors
JYC has two boat harbors - one is at the Club and the other, England Harbor, is nearby. We have a total of 180 wet slips. In addition, JYC rents dry slips at the Club harbor on which a member can store a trailer and/or boat on a trailer. Dry slips are also available to members and non-members at England Harbor. Water and electrical service are available at each wet slip. England Harbor offers both open and covered slips.
A launching ramp and haul out crane are located at the JYC harbor.
Arrangements for a slip may be made by contacting Membership Services at 601-856-8844, ext. 15.
Swimming Pool
JYC has a collegiate size swimming pool available to its members. The pool is open under the supervision of Red Cross certified lifeguards during the summer months. In addition to chairs for lounging, we offer pool side food service. JYC is very proud of its Sunfish Swim Team.
Club Boats
JYC has a fleet of sailboats available for members to use. The fleet includes a 25 foot Helms, two Catalina 22’s, two Flying Scots, an O’Day Widgeon and ten Sunfish. A brief checkout sail with one of our experienced sailors is the only requirement to make a reservation and take one of these boats out for a sail.
CLUB HISTORY
One evening in 1960, a group of 55 people met at the Capitol City Club to
discuss the formation of a sailing club. During this year the following was
accomplished:
1. A steering committee was appointed.
2. The location of JYC was selected.
3. A constitution and fees and dues structures were proposed.
4. A recommendation was made for an initial fleet of sailboats.
5. Arrangements were made with Lake Hico for temporary use of the
lake.
Feeling the need for shelter from the sun and the rain, a tarpaulin was
purchased, mounted and admired. The third weekend following this construction, the
tarpaulin was found in tatters and the members accepted the need for a sturdier, more
permanent shelter. An A-Frame building was completed in 1963.
The Club burgee was designed and registered with Lloyds Register of Shipping.
In 2001, the original design was replaced with the present burgee.
In November, 1964, a ground-breaking ceremony was held in the rain and
construction began on the new Jackson Yacht Club clubhouse on the Barnett
Reservoir. The harbor system was completed in 1965 and the membership moved
into the new clubhouse in 1966.
In 1998, our beloved clubhouse burned. A triple-wide trailer was set up and a
large deck was built. Many memories were made and many friendships bonded
during this trying period
Groundbreaking for our present facility was held in September, 2001.
Construction on the new facility was completed just in time for the 2002 New Year’s
Eve Party.
Here we are today!
