James Stephens hurling club started back into the 2014 season with the commencement of training for U8 and

U10 in late January. Bolstered by a great increase in numbers at the U8 level in 2013, the club is looking forward

to a year of continued growth and juvenile development.

We are proud to welcome Anthony Healy as coach to the

U12 team.

Anthony has served our club well throughout his long

career with club & county. Anthony represented his

county hurling squad for six years from 2007 onwards. It

is that great pride in his club, his time & knowledge, and

his passion for hurling, which Anthony is giving to drive

our younger players forward.

We are privileged to have such a mentor of the game

News for 2014

New Club website: We will be launching the new club website in the coming weeks and hope that the online

presence will be a great visual tool that will help us to attract and generate new and renewed interest – both

players and supporters alike.

Additionally, club events and fixtures will also be updated here for parents, players & supporters to access.

Under 6’s hurling: We are happy to announce that we are introducing an U6 training group this year to further

strengthen the foundation of our hurling base in North Mayo with a continued focus into the future.

U8 & U10 hurling: Coaches have had the boys back in training since mid-January this year. Training is usually

indoors in St. Muredach’s College hall, Tuesday evenings from 6 - 7 p.m. Sometimes training is held at the

AstroTurf pitch under floodlights in Belleek (Ballina Town FC grounds). As both the weather and the light allow,

training will then migrate to the main pitch at St. Muredach’s College.

U12 hurling: This year will see Séamus Hurley coaching the U12 squad. Séamus is the club’s Child Protection

officer, and has a long history of juvenile coaching. Training starts back mid-February. Below you will find a list of

league matches for the U12 team scheduled for the year.

U14 hurling: 2014 sees coaches Bosco Kelly & Michael Bolger move on to the U14 team. The 2 coaches have

trained this squad for the last number of years at U12 and U13 level.

U16 hurling: Indoor training commenced at the end of February, and takes place on Wednesday nights from 8pm

to 9pm. Outdoor training has also started on Saturday mornings.

The league is played during the month of April and consists of 5 teams.

The championship takes place in August.

The U16 coach is David O’Sullivan who will also invite guest coaches with inter-county playing/coaching

experience for various sessions during the year.

Underage Camogie: 2014 is off to great start with 5 Blitz dates ahead of the Camogie club:

Saturday, 3rd May in Westport

Saturday, 7th June in Castlebar

Sunday, 21st June in Ballyvary

Sunday, 20th July in Ballina

Sunday, 31st August Tooreen

Camogie training is every Monday from 6 – 7pm in St. Muredach’s College pitch, and for wetter evenings we train

in College Hall. All new members are welcome: 5 - 10 years old. Check us out on Facebook “James Stephens

Camogie Club” or contact our Club Secretary, Allison Leneghan (083-0073407) for any queries.

We would like to thank our players and parents for their ongoing support and look forward to 2014 season.

St. Patrick’s Day parade: Sunday March 16th

- the club will be fielding a float this year again. All members are

asked to attend. Please wear your club hoody and bring your hurleys. Dress warm on the day. More accurate

meeting info available from the coaches, or P.R.O., closer to the day.

Schools: Springtime 2014 will see coaches working in the local national schools in the area to generate further

interest and awareness of the club, and the sport overall, with the youth in the local area and continue to

promote the development of the sport.

Camán Abú: Adult indoor hurling sessions run on Tuesdays, from 8pm – 9pm in St. Muredach’s College hall. This

is a great, non-contact variant of hurling that anyone can play. No hurling experience necessary whatsoever!

Over-18s only.

Come along and see what it’s all about. For more information, check out http://justplay.gaa.ie.

Facilities: The club aims to also make use of the Ballina Town FC astro-turf for some training sessions throughout

the season. The club is also aiming to introduce a monthly fun night for the players to relax and get to make new

friends and have the craic…. More to come on this soon

James Stephens Camogie Club 2013

James Stephens Camogie Club started in June of 2013 with support and

guidance of Séamus Hurley (James Stephens Hurling Club) and Caroline

Murray (Regional Development Officer).

The club was officially launched on 28th October, 2013 with a Halloween party

for all members, friends and families with a disco, fancy-dress and games. The

night was great success, and well deserved for all the hard work put in by the

young players in the clubs first season.

To present we have 35 members with numbers growing every week.

Allison Leneghan and Trish Healy coach our Under 8 team.

Chrissy Garrett and Kathleen Swift coach Under 10 team.

We attended our first blitz in September 2013 in Tooreen on a very wet and

wild morning and played a friendly game in Crossmolina a few weeks later.

This gave our players their first taste of camogie games and what’s to come for

2014 season.
