ASDA National Postage Stamp Show

Oct. 5, 6 & 7, 2017New York City, NY

In this IssueMost of the material offered in this issue has arrived

over the past two months. A key purchase was the Puget Sound collection which comes from the Pacific Northwest. It was built over a period of 50+ years and includes 1869 essays, proofs, fancy cancels and a few covers. Next some beautiful fancy cancels on cover came our way, followed by two spectacular E6 die proofs from the estate of Bob Markovits.

A common thread throughout the nine pages of essays and proofs are the sets of India paper plate proofs. Over the years, I have noted, that one set of India paper plate proofs is offered for every 10 sets of card board proofs. Add to that the fragile nature of the paper and the ratio is even higher.

Finally, we are offering, once again, both the 2018 Scott U.S specialized and Classic catalogs at an attractive dis-counted price from the suggested retail price.

Booth No. 13 at the ASDA National Postage Stamp Show in New York CityWe will be on the main aisle at the National Postage

Stamp Show at the New York Hilton Hotel, 1335 Avenue of the Americas, Thursday, October 5th through Saturday, October 7th.

We will have available our entire stock of essays and proofs, postal history, and fancy cancels. During the past, few months we have made important acquisitions in the areas of U.S. essays, proofs, and Civil War postal history.

In addition, we plan to have a limited number of the Scott 2018 Specialized Catalogue on United States Stamps & Covers, so you may want to reserve one which you can pick up at the show.

If you have material to sell, we are active buyers. Please contact us immediately so that we can set up a meeting to view the material you have for sale (847/910-6048).

Someone You Should Know —Dani LevissIf you live in the Northeast, and have attended stamp

shows, during the past 20 or more years I am sure you encountered Barry and Gerry Covers who specialized in first day covers. Several years ago, Gerry Leviss passed away unexpectedly. Today, Dani, Gerry’s daughter, Donna, his wife, and Mikey his son have created BGC Legacy to carry on the family tradition. Dani is one of this year’s American Philatelic Society youth fellows (YPLF).

Melanie and I met her at StampShow in Richmond this past month. She showed us several of the designs that she has created and her work is spectacular.

“The YPLF program connects young stamp collectors between the ages of 16 and 24 with knowledgeable phila-telic leaders and access to unique learning experiences.” It was the brain child of Alex Haimann in 2008. This success-ful program is just one of the building blocks for the future of philately and could use your support. I encourage you to go to: https://stamps.org/Fellowship-Details to learn more about this amazing program.

May I Invite You To Join?

The 131-Year OldHome of American

Philately

This endorsement is not one of those that tells you about the vast number of services and benefits offered by the largest of all national societies for

stamp collectors in America. Many of you are, of course, already members—but we know that a sizable number of you may not have considered joining. I sure hope you do consider it. It’s very much the key to enjoying philately to the fullest!

What I have to say about the APS is brief and concise and goes way beyond telling you what you get for the $45 annual dues that I consider one of the key bargains in our hobby. It’s simply this:

When you are a member of the American Philatelic So-ciety you are part of the greatest social medium ever con-ceived for the philatelist. See for yourself at www.stamps.org.(where you’ll find a membership app) What’s more, I’d be very pleased to propose you for membership, too! Just email me at [email protected]/
