Pastors Notes... Greetings My Brothers & Sisters In Christ It has been a glorious year spiritually. We are coming to the end of the year and what a year it has been. This year has been a blessing for the faithful members of Jackson Spring Hill. We have experienced death and rebirth. We have seen many miracles among our fold. We are so blessed to know that God is still alive and in the healing business. We are still worshipping and praising God to the highest. We thank God for those that faithfully continue on here with us. The Lord blesses us in the most magnificent ways. We were so glad that Christmas was on Monday. It was wonderful. We had the best service last year on Christmas Day. It makes the reason for the season more spiritual and joyous. We will also be having service on New Years Eve which is the 5th Sunday and Womens Day here at the church. We are so blessed and we thank God for those of you that continue to support this church. There's a great falling away from our Lord a and Savior but the time is coming when every knee shall bow and very tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord. Have Happy and joyous New Year! • Emmett J. Scott High School All School Reunion 100 Years Memories

    Greetings from your

1967 Class Reunion Planning Committee Our 100 Year Centennial Celebration is shaping up to be an event you do not want to miss. The planning committee has been working diligently and enthusiastically for this celebration. Emmett Scott opened in 1918, and closed in 1970, due to an integration law ordered by Judge William Wayne Justice. As you know, Emmett Scott was the only Black high school in Tyler, and it has been sorely missed by all. Every alumnus that was fortunate enough to have been a part of such an extraordinary institution should be more than proud of its legacy. In order to make this reunion special, we would like to know as soon as possible if you will attend. Please reserve your spot as early as possible by completing a registration form and return on or before the deadline date May 18, 2018. Late and onsite registration fees will apply after the deadline. Ads will need to be received no later than April 30, 2018. Ads for the 2018 souvenir booklet will be printed in color. Further information will be forthcoming in a 2018 mail out that will include an up-to-the-minute agenda of planned activities and information on lodging. Our reunions have been a way to celebrate with friends and re-establish ties to our local community. Pleas join the “Centennial Celebration: 100 Years of Memories” 1918-2018. JSH Cemetery Update

As we mentioned in earlier newsletters, the Jackson Springhill Cemetery Association has

started a financial drive to help make repairs to the cemetery. At the front entrance on the hilly side, the ground is slowly washing away and it appears there should be a retaining wall. Bids are still being considered. To date a total of $1720.00 has been

donated. We thank you for the most recent donations. For bids consideration and information contact Noella Cain at [email protected] or call 903-593-6340 or Jackie at [email protected].

Deadline for girls who want to be Azalea Belles January 23, 2018

The application deadline to apply to be an Azalea Belle at the 59th annual Azalea & Spring Flower Trail is 5 p.m. Jan 23, 2018. Applications can be found online at the Tyler Area Chamber of Commerce, 315 N. Broadway Ave., or at local high school counselor’s offices. This year’s Azalea & Spring Flower Trail will take place in the Downtown Azalea district March 16-April 1. Azalea Belles are the ambassadors of the Trail who wear antebellum dresses throughout this three-weekend event and are needed to promote Tyler, greet tourists and pose for photographs. The opportunity is open to freshman and sophomore high school girls residing in Smith County who will be available for the event times and enjoy working with people. The girls must be academically eligible and are required to attend certain events and trainings. Visit Tyler will provide the dresses. A typical schedule involves working 3 1/2 hours on Saturday mornings or afternoons as well as Sunday afternoons, and there will be at least two Belles at each location. Throughout the three weekends of the Trail, the Belles will be outside of houses, wearing antebellum gowns. The Belles have been a part of the Trail since 1964 when the chamber decided guests needed to be welcomed in true Southern style.
