Press ReleaseIVI-IPO Endorsement Process is Corrupt

Independent Voters of Illinois-Independent Precinct Organization? Not Really

Chicago, December 18, 2010: Philip Bernstein, candidate for Alderman in the 48th Ward today issued a statement regarding what

clearly is a corrupt candidate endorsement process as practiced by the so called independent voter group the Independent Voters ofIllinois-Independent Precinct Organization.

This self-described 501(c)(4) organization, yet another PAC that thinking independents are sick of, is without a doubt a fully sanctionedoperating wing of the ingrained democratic machine in the City of Chicago. Its endorsement process is a fix, and a sham. said Bernstein.

On December 3rd, I received a postcard from IVI-IPO stating if you wish to be considered for endorsement, you must submit aquestionnaire by Friday, December 3, 2010. I called their offices and left a message telling them I just received the questionnaire (100questions, with a large number of essays required); that I couldnt finish it the day I received it, but that I would work to get it completed byDecember 6th. It was sent to them on that date, and receipt was confirmed.

On December 9th, IVI-IPO contacted me via voice mail and said I was scheduled for a candidate endorsement session on December 12th. Iwas given 1 minute to introduce myself; 8 minutes to answer 3 questions and 1 minute to conclude. None of the endorsement committeeconsisting of Democratic Committeman Carol Ronan, Illinois State Senator Heather Steans and Harry Osterman with his wife had even seenmy questionnaire responses. In fact, not until sometime after 12:20 pm on Friday December 17 th were my responses even posted on theIVI-IPO website: 5 days after the conclusion of the endorsement session.

So, a candidate endorsement session was scheduled, and the endorsement committee of insiders voted to endorse Harry Ostermanwithout the common courtesy of even reading and digesting my detailed responses to 100 questions. Could anyone characterize this asan honest, legitimate process carried out by a truly independent group of voters interested in learning about the positions of thecandidates? I think not said Bernstein. Rather, it is simply an insult to the intelligence of the voters who actually believe that thisorganization represents anything close to legitimacy.

In fact, those are the views that were echoed by an insider at the meeting who offered me the following quotes: Is the process a fraud?Yes; There are no independents in this group; Will you get a fair shake from IVI-IPO? Please; This is an arm of the democratic machine, who have hijacked the whole process; They were there to run through the motions and vote for Osterman; IVI-IPO is an organization fullof partisans.

No wonder Harry Osterman had the smug look of contentment on his face when I bumped into him at this endorsement session. Hewas the ringer. He voted to endorse himself while his office mates Ronan and Steans, et al. endorsed him as well. He could have come tothe session in a long term comatose state and he would have been endorsed by IVI-IPO and his pals. Bernstein said.

Is it any wonder that the silent majority is fed-up with this insider abuse? I have every confidence that come election day, Harry Ostermanand his insider minions will be out in force, but that the silent majority will be out in even a greater force and elect me as a true gamechanger to improve this ward and this city said Bernstein. See http://bernsteinforalderman.com for the questionnaire.
