I N V E S T I G AT I O N In the Investigation Stage, I think I did a great job here, I had explain the Unit question: How can we make our campus belongs to us? And I also write about how the environment effect on learning. By doing this I took many pictures from the campus and write about what part of them that makes me unsatisfied. I think I did a great job here because I am not only writing about how environment will effect our learning, I also took many pictures to support my opinion. After that I decide what am I going to design. I decided to design a chair, and then I started to find there chair pictures for my case study. I found there different types of special chair. One of them is made from cardboard, another is made from wood and the last one is made from leather. The reason that I choose those chairs is because of their shapes, their shapes gave me an idea of making the furniture that looks special and which will grab others’ attention. In my design brief I talked about my basic ideas of designing the furniture. Then I decided my furniture should be build in wood. I started the material study. My material study focus on the different types of wood. The three wood are: Red oak wood, Mahogany, and Pine wood. By studying them, I found out each type of wood have their disadvantage and advantage. My investigation had include a clear IT Specification and a work cited list. In this stage I think I did a very good investigation, I have understand the materials properties well and I also come up some ideas for the design.

D E S I G N In this part I think I did the best job in all the work I did so far. I drew six designs and then I chose my design carefully. At last, I decided to choose two designs and mix them together. I had a huge development of the two design. As I start the develop the two ideas, Viking ship shape chair and simple shaped chair, I started to add new ideas in. At last, I decided to design a super cool multi-use space ship shaped chair. I had add many uses to the chair and make the chair not only a chair. I had spent about 2 hours design my final design and I think I did this section the best.

P L A N

In this part, I think I still need to improved a lot. The plan doesn’t even work. The plan that I design was totally fail. When I look over through the plan, the most important problem is when I design the plan I don’t even know the school provide materials like wood and other machines that I never used before. At that time I thought we need to buy the materials on our own, so that’s why I choose to make the model by using paper and glue and chopsticks. When I really start to make the product, I found out there is no way to make the product by just using glue and the paper. It is not realistic at all. I time line is also a failure, because the wrong material in the plan also resulted the actual making process is very different from the plan. Lack of experience and don’t know how to use the machines is another big problem in my plan. The failure of the plan resulted many difficulties in making the model.

C R E AT E In this section I had meet many difficulties in the first two classes, it is because I made mistakes in my plan, my plan doesn’t even work. In the first class I found out the school provide many materials and machines that I never used before. The first idea I took is to decide to make the model in wood. I tried to cut the wood by using the machine, but I found out it was impossible to cut out the complex shape like my design. Then I changed the plan again to make my model by using the soft spongy. The time I analyze the model took much longer than I thought, I spent 3 hours to analyze the shape of the model and then come up the final new plan. The new plan is to make the model by using the spongy and tooth path. After I come up the new plan, the plan was so successful that everything worked well, and I meet no difficulties. I finished the model 2 or 3 days before the classmates.

E VA L U AT I O N In my evaluation, I had evaluate my products in very detailed. I think in the Testing: Meeting Specifications Part I did the best. In that part I had evaluate my products in each specifications. Each specifications I had write sentences to explain did I success or not. I

think I had did a great job in the evaluation. I had clearly explained and describe each stage of designing my product. I had also write about which points of the product I think I did well and which part I think I didn’t do well. I also wrote about the ways that I can still improved my product. At last, I think I did an awesome job to explain how my furniture is going to have a huge impact on the society and the environment.

Materials Which material is the strongest and most environmental friendly? Use more natural materials. x

The material I plan to make my model is wood, but in the first class I found out it is impossible to cut out the complex shaped from wood and it is also very difficult to create a curve which is less than 100 cm square. Then I decided to use the soft spongy to be alternative materials. This worked very well, because the material is good looking and can be easy cut out by scissors and glued.

Size Which size is better for fitting the building? Find out the fit size of the furniture for the building. V

Yes, I had meet the specification because even though I had changed the size of the specification from 2 meters to 20 meters, but I also think it fits in the building. The gigantic furniture can put in the lobby of the building.

Function Is sitting on the chair comfortable? Test by letting someone sit on the chair.v

Yes, the furniture is very comfortable. It had soft part and big opened spaced seats. Everyone can sit comfortable on the chair.

Safety No sharp angles safe for children x

The furniture isn’t safe enough. In order to make the furniture space ship shaped, there must be some angles need for the design. Those angles aren’t safe for children, but I can still change the material of the sharp angle part from wood to soft spongy.

Aesthetics How can I make my furniture looks special? Finding the images of the Viking ship and try to make connection with the furniture.

V I had successful design my furniture with the connection of art. The furniture that I designed is very modern and it is also very colorful. My space ship shaped chair is not only a chair, it can also be seen as the art creation. The stage in the back can use as drama play’s stage or the audience’s seat.

Time How can I limit the making time? Think about how can we limit the time of making the product. Maybe by making more companies work together with each other.

VThe time control was very successful. At first because my plan section failed and everything went into mess. In the first class I done nothing. In that class I tried to cut out the materials from wood, but it failed. I found out it was so difficult to cut the complex shape from wood. Then after that class, I had spent about 2 to 3 hours to redesign my new plan. In the new plan I changed the materials to soft spongy. It is easy to cut and glue. After my new plan come out, everything went well, and even much successful than I thought. I finished the product 2 classes before the due day and thats gives me more time to start the new section.

Purpose How can I make my furniture more useful? Finding the images of chair, table and some art creation, and then tries to combine them together to have multi-use.

VI think I made a great job in the purpose of my furniture. It is because I expand the purposes of my design. There are main seat on the left and some seats on the right. I had design many bookshelves which are for people who sit on the chair can grab a book and read. There are also a round sofa chair for people to sit. At the back of the chair I also design the stage seat where people can sit on different levels. The stage also include lights and on the other side of the stage there are information walls, so I think I did an excellent job in expanding the purpose of my chair.

Cost How can I limit the budget in less then 100 dollars? Did I stay in budget or did I go over budget?

XThe main problem of my design is the cost of the material. Wood is an expensive material and the multi uses will also increase the price of my furniture. I am sure that my furniture will cost more than US 100 dollars, and it will be very expensive to make.

Target Audience

What is my target audience? Try to make everyone can use.

VI had meet this specification, because I had make my furniture multi uses and that makes more audience can use the furniture. The furniture also includes an information wall that also will increase the amount of audiences using my furniture.

Durability Was the material strong enough for the product?How can I make my durability better? Try to make the wood waterproof then this will increase the durability.

vThe furniture I made had a very great durability. The furniture that I designed is going to be wood and I am going to paint a special paint that makes the design waterproof. Another way to increase the durability of my furniture is to choose hard materials and that’s one of the reasons why I choose wood to make my furniture.

3.Successful points of the Product:

In my product there are lots of points which I think is very successful. First of all, I think my product had success in Aesthetics. My product had combine the beauty of art into the design. The furniture looks modern and cool, and I am sure the product almost 100 percent meet my design brief. In my design brief I want to make the furniture which is very useful and also can grab everyone’s attention. Another thing I think is every successful is the purpose of the design. In my product I had not only meet all the purposes, which is for sitting. I had expand on the purposes from just sitting into multi uses such as including bookshelves, and information wall, and also lights......etc. The product can also used for a long time, it has a great durability.

4.Least successful points of the product:

There are still many points which I think isn’t successful at all. The least successful things in my product is the cost. In order to create a gigantic modern space ship shaped furniture with multi uses will cause a lot of money. In my budget at first I want to try to limit the furniture under US 100 dollars. Now after I finished my product (model), I found out if I want to make the product in real life it will take at least US 1000 dollars and that is 10 times more than my budget. Another thing that I think isn’t successful is the safety of my product. In my design I had made many sharp angles to create the space ship shaped furniture. Those sharp angles might be harmful to the children. I think in this part I still need to improved.

In my product there is one thing that I was little concerned about. I am concerned that the size of my design is too big that will caused the furniture will not be easy to fit in the buildings. The size will also increase the materials that are going to be used. The increase of the materials will increase the weight and that also caused the furniture won’t be easy be move. The increase of the materials will also increase the furniture’s price, and in my design the price of making is very high. Next time if I had a chance of making another furniture, I will make something small, moveable, and not as complex as the design I made this time. I will tried to make it looks simple, but beautiful and also useful. My next goal if I can make a new design is to make a beautiful and simple shaped furniture with less cost and also increase the durability.

1. What do you think of my product? This product looks good and interesting. It contains a lot of functions and as the function is important for furniture, this furniture looks great and functional.

Personally, you can improve your final product more specifically because when I saw it first, I didn’t get it clearly, so I suggest you to final make product more specifically and more simpler.

In my opinion, it will entertain people by providing them a place to sit and read a book. It will increase knowledge of all students and the quality of studies for all students in SWA.

4.Does it fit in the Da Vinci Building or not?

In my opinion, it is really fit on Davinci Building because as 21st century people needs to read more books, it will be a one of the useful way to ask them to read a book and increase the quality of SWA students in studies and project.

Personally, I think it’s a bit complicated and a bit hard to make. The bookshelves on top of the roof of the stage seems a bit impossible because it will be hard for people to reach the bookshelf.

3. How do you think it will effect the Sinarmas World Academy community?

I think it will affect the community because it’s a very creative design, and it will fit the artistic theme of the building a lot.

4.Does it fit in the Da Vinci Building or not?

I think it really fits the theme of the building because as I said before, it’s very artistic and technological, very much similar to the theme of the building.

7.The impact to society

I think my project had a huge impact on the society. If my product are made in real life, it will make the Da Vinci Building become the coolest building ever. The furniture can create a great environment for people to read and gain knowledge. When they are sitting on my design they can grab a book and read instead of just looking on their computers. There are also a big information wall which can for teachers and students to post or read information. The back of the furniture can also be used for stage or seats where people can sit on different levels. It can be used for drama play or held other performances. The colorful and the modern space ship shaped furniture will grab everyone’s attention and it will make the building even more special. The furniture will create a very good reading environment for students just sit comfortable and read. The main seat in my design can also become a reading area. The furniture will also make many students understand the beauty of art. Art teachers can use it as samples of how art blend into our buildings. Science or math teacher can used it to create projects like how do you calculate the area of the seat. Drama or music

8.The impact on the environment

This design had a very huge on the environment. This design brings art and modern technology shapes into the building. The colorful and complex shapes will make people filled with energy like a big space ship ready to take off. This design will create a place for all the students to read. The multi uses of the furniture and the complex shape is brain storming and that makes people think outside the box. The furniture also will let other students know there is no limit of creativity.
