~ ~ l j hether you need to develop l ~ I prototype hardware quickly or a finished product, the PDK51 is an inexpensive and efficient tool for getting the job done.

At the heart of the kit is the Bi nary Technology SIBEC-II microcontroller board. Based on the Intel 8052-AH BASIC CPU (version 1.1), the SIBEC-II is equipped with an on-board PROM programmer, a prototyping space, three 8-bit parallel ports, 16K of static RAM, and sockets to accommodate another 48K of memory. The SIBEC-II comes complete with two iSBX expansion port connectors for industry-standard peripherals, such as ND or D/A boards.

The PDK51 also includes SXA51, a cross­assembler; KERMIT, a terminal emulator and file transfer program; M/DP, Binary Technology's popular monitor-debugger, and a wealth of documentation. The kit is rounded out by power supplies for the SIBEC-II and the on-board PROM programmer, and an RS-232 cable for connecting the SIBEC-II to your IBM-PC, XT, AT, or compatible.

Developing Code In Three Easy Ways

II II he PDK51 allows you to develop code •• for the Intel 8051 microcontroller family in three ways. You can use the SIBEC-II in stand-alone mode, employing the BASIC interpreter built into the 8052. An alternative is to write code on an I BM­PC (or compatible) and assemble it with the SXA51 cross-assembler. Finally, you can write code using a combination of BASIC and assembly language. The choice is yours, and a tutorial is included to help you get started. In addition, the PDK51 is compatible with all known 8051 high level language compilers.

Once you have created object code with the SXA51 cross-assembler, you can download it from your PC to the SIBEC-II using KERMIT for file transfer. Then, using KERMIT as a terminal emulator on your PC, you can ru n and debug the program under the M/DP monitor-debugger. A copy of the source code listing for M/DP is included for your reference. When the code has been debugged, you can con­figure the PDK51 to burn the completed program into a PROM.
