Colder weather is approaching, and the ground will start freezing before we know it. Make sure you’re prepared for the change in seasons with the perfect thawing solution. The Frost Hog thaw-ing system is safe, efficient, clean and convenient as it is easily transported on its own self-loading trailer, making it the ideal tool for all your excavating projects.

Frost Hog operates on the principle of efficiently igniting and burning pro-pane gas in a u-shaped tube. Maxi-mum heat is achieved using a patented “Fire Tube Energy Saver” installed in the combustion chamber. This device confounds the flow of the air/gas mix-ture through the tube thereby forcing all heat to the inside walls. In turn, this heats the outside of the tube to its maximum capability. A ceramic insu-lated housing encases the heat tube, and when this housing is lowered to the surface to be thawed, an extremely high percentage of total heat is direct-ed downward. Very little heat is lost to the atmosphere. Operating the Frost Hog at 400*C will obtain maximum efficiency.

The Frost Hog is a simple machine that is easy to operate. It can be pulled to

the jobsite, fired up, and left unattend-ed during the thawing process. It runs quietly, is transported on its own wheels and can be easily placed in the desired position for work.

Depending on soil conditions most frost is removed within 24-48 hours, which will consume approximately 2 – 100lb bottles of propane in 24 hours. Asphalt does not affect the frost removal process. By removing all the moisture, refreezing does not take place for an extended period of time, should there be a delay in hand expos-ing. If soil is not disturbed the thawing process will continue.

SafetyAll burner controls and propane valves are enclosed to eliminate vandalism.

The hood is insulated to maintain high interior temperatures yet leaving the exterior cool to prevent accidental burn injuries. There is no open flame – all units are equipped with flame arrestor cells, safety valves and automatic gas shut-offs, making the Frost Hog explo-sion-proof for use in residential and/or hazardous areas.

Savings Unlike costly water, steam, and vacuum trucks that only expose a small area, the use of a 12 ft. Frost Hog will allow 5-6 ft. of hand excavating on each side of the major pipeline. This means exposing, by hand, the possibility of any other pipelines or utility lines and keeping within the guidelines set forth by the government and pipeline com-panies.

FROST HOG:GROUND FROST REMOVAL SYSTEM

Handley Industries, Inc. has banked 85 successful years of diversified manufac-turing experience. It all started in 1925 when W.J. Handley invented and built the first automatic gas water heater with an insulated tank. In 1960, Handley-Brown sold its heater products and its aluminum fabricating activities and became Handley Indus-tries, Inc., concentrating on further development of the plastic business started in 1958. These products were generally curb, valve, and terminal boxes, meter covers and pedestal meter bases.

In recent years, Handley has expand-ed its product line primarily to serve the gas, water, and telephone utilities. These products are mainly gas and water curb, valve, and terminal boxes, telephone boxes and marker posts.

Gas, water, telephone, electric, and the petroleum industries are finding wide application for these Handley plastic products in the area of transmission and distribution.

More recently, the company introduced valve supports and plastic curb stop valves for valves ½" - 2". Observing the growing use of PE distribution piping and recognizing the need for compatible valving, Handley personnel began a developmental program in 1982. The first objective was to produce a plastic ball valve that would eliminate the need for corro-sion-inhibiting valve coatings, cathod-ic-protection, and periodic federal-ly-mandated piping system inspections and thus provide a longer life. Having already designed a support base for plastic valves, Handley joined their new service shut-off valve, their curb box, and their support base and created a system that would assure the proper alignment of the curb box and valve turning head. This achieved, we named it: the "HANDLEY SEAL TIGHT SUPER TOUGH SYSTEM."

The plastic used in Handley products are non-corrosive, high quality, strong and durable. Handley products will withstand all normal soil and weather conditions and will never rust, or rot. Overall careful manufacturing and inspection procedures are followed to help assure that a quality product is produced to specifications. Today, Handley Industries continues to uphold its legacy of innovation, skillful development, and quality manufactur-ing for which it has been noted for over 70 years.

ON THE ROAD

TRADE SHOW ROUND UPTecvalco has had a great month on the road. Our team started with a trip down to Fort Worth, Texas to partake in the Water Pro Conference. This conference pulled in decision makers relevant to the wastewater industry from all over the country and allowed us to shed light on our revolutionary wastewater treatment system - MemFree system.

A day later The team moved on to Houston, Texas for the American School of Gas and Measurement Technology. We were able to showcase our extensive line of gas related products and our CWT heaters at this show.

The last stop on our September leg of the year was Ottawa, Ontario where our very own Doug Campbell partook in the Boone Parade of Products. The event hosted distributors from all over the country showcasing the best in wholesale products.

Tecvalco's next stop is Williston, North Dakota for the Bakken Oil Product and Service Show.

CETCO are experts in transforming minerals and polymers into technologies that improve productivity and enhance performance. They offer solutions for commercial, industri-al and infrastructure construction challenges worldwide. CETCO has partnered with Tecvalco primarily to assist with Canada-wide distribution on their drilling fluid lines as well as their polymers and additives. Drilling Fluids: All CETCO bentonite based drilling fluids are made of the highest quality sodium bentonite from Wyoming When drilling with bentonite, a protective “filter cake” is formed on the borehole wall reducing the level of soil permeability and increasing stability. The circulating bentonite slurry removes the drilled cuttings bringing them to the surface. The bentonite mixture also exerts hydraulic pressure preventing any collapse of the walls even when the excavation is below the water table. Bentonite slurry also acts as a lubricant for drilling tools. In slurry wall construction, bentonite is used to contain contaminated groundwater, dewater excavations and stabilize dams, levees, and other similar structures. Bentonite slurry has a slightly higher specific gravity than water, creating a positive hydrostatic head that stabilizes the sides of the trench to hold soil particles together and prevent collapse. The backfill material, some of which may contain various soil waste materials, bentonite and cement, provides an impervious barrier and over time will set to final form. Polymers and Additives: CETCOS diverse line of polymers and additives can con-quer the most difficult soil conditions. These Polymers and Additives are also able to handle any complex drilling conditions, the diverse line of polymers and additives at CETCO continue to assist contractors in the most difficult soil conditions. CETCO has an extensive line of high qual-ity and reliable additives and will assist you in improving the performance of all of your drilling operations.
