As a result of Tecvalco having recently achieved North American product certification to CSA 49ANSI Z211 for the CWT line Tecvalco will be installing a new nameplate on our CWT heaters Please note the certification requires this nameplate to call-out the different ratings achievable for each heater model The rating values are per code-specified test methods and do not necessarily reflect actual in-field performance accurately

Heaters shipped within the North American market leave the factory with either a 43 or 45 orifice This is done in order to optimize the field performance of the CWT heaters maintain standardization in the manufacturing process and to reduce the potential of over-firing which also optimizes

efficiencies and product longevity Should the customer need to increase the output of the heater increased capacities can be achieved by simply up-sizing the burner orifice in accor-dance with the charts detailed below andor adjusting the fuel gas pressure Orifice options are limited to those listed on the rating plate for Tecvalco to remain in compliance with the new certification Specific instruction on how to optimize the performance of the Tecvalco CWT heater line are detailed in our product manuals

This information is provided solely to outline the ranges of operation for each heater The below tables detail the ratings achieved for each heater and orifice size as confirmed and ap-proved by Intertek the certification body for the CWT heaters

Thank you for your continued support of the CWT technology Should you have additional questions please contact your representative or Tecvalco Ltd At 1-866-317-0131

Through the combined effort of the marketing team and the produce experts at Tecvalco we will be launching a new sec-tion on our website this Summer and Fall Tecvalco University or Tec U as we are calling it will be a web-page hosted on our primary site

The goal of the web-page is to offer in one central and organized location all of the product information and knowledge that we can bring together

The early plans include tutorials manuals and technical information sheets ndash but over time we plan on creating orig-inal videos informational graphics charts and much more The first of these new content pieces will be the video of the CWT 3080 crane load (which can currently be found on our YouTube channel) and the new PLC 101 introduction video that is nearing completion

We will announce when Tec U goes live and will be actively seeking feedback and input on what material we should include in our course and lesson offerings

BRINGING ALL OUR KNOWLEDGE TOGETHER

From July 10th to 13th the CWT team braved the Florida heat in order to wel-come our distributors to the new Tecvalco USA manufacturing facility in Rockledge Florida

Six different companies were guests of Tecvalco at the event Mulcare Pipeline Solution Groebner Bartlett Controls SiteSafe Solutions Tri-Pacific and Guest Controls In total 19 people attended

This was Tecvalcorsquos second annual Distributor Meeting and the discussions held during the week included everything from sharing market intelligence and brainstorming product improvements to sharing success stories and identifying opportunities in the industry

Holding the event in the facility that Tecvalco recently purchased helped the distributors see first hand just how com-mitted to growth that Tecvalco is in the United States

Productivity on the job is about more than just choosing the right HDD tools Itrsquos about looking at the job from all angles to make

sure yoursquore prepared to tackle anything that might slow down your drilling progress During

our decades of experience we have seen lots of ways drillers can make minor adjustments to achieve maximum productiv-ity Here are 8 tips that show you how to improve your HDD productivity

Get organizedBefore your job begins make a comprehensive list of every piece of equipment yoursquoll need down to the nuts and bolts Wersquove seen drillers shut down work for hours because they tried to hook up their back reamer and realized they were missing the adapter to connect to the swivel Donrsquot let this happen to you

Sweat the small stuffDouble check that all the thread types on all connecting parts match before you begin your job Review the website or cata-logue from your HDD manufacturer when ordering new parts to make sure theyrsquoll work Also be sure you have every hand tool required to assemble the parts

Get the right tools for the jobNot only do you need to make sure you have all the tools for your job you must be sure that theyrsquore the correct tools Speak with your HDD manufacturer about your ground con-ditions and drill rig to make sure you have the best size and type of tools for the job

Do a dry run assemblyAssemble all your parts and accessories one time before hauling everything out to the site Look closely at thread and bolt patters torque requirements and any other minor speci-fications that could grind production to a halt If yoursquore miss-ing a part or need an adapter itrsquos better to discover it before the job begins than on day one at the site

MINOR ADJUSTMENTS TO IMPROVE HDD PRODUCTIVITY

Inspect your tools closelyThe impact of drilling puts stress on the small parts of tools and after one job wraps itrsquos easy to store your equipment and forget about the damage Take a close look at all of your tools paying close attention to the parts that connect swivel rub and chew Are threads worn down Are there cutters missing on the bit Have the bearings seized up on the swivel Little things like this can stop you in your tracks Replace any parts that are worn or look questionable before beginning your job

Walk the job before you drillVisiting the drill site when bidding a job is not enough We recommend touring the site a week or so before drilling to get a clearer sense of the conditions yoursquoll run into as you work Take notes on ground conditions and survey the profile of your bore path looking for drastic elevation changes or barriers that your locator and drill operator will need to be aware of Knowing what to expect will ensure that you have the right HDD tools and equipment on hand and help you draft the best game plan for your crew

Decide how to step up your hole sizeThink about the number of drill passes yoursquoll need to get from your pilot hole to the ultimate finished hole especially when drilling big holes (18 inches or greater) Drilling big holes the right way requires swapping out drill heads and using addi-tional equipment so plan your steps carefully to make sure you have everything you will need

Donrsquot let drill fluid management slow you downTalk to your HDD manufacturer about the size of equipment you will be using for pilot boring and back reaming and calculating how much fluid you should have for your job in-cluding extra During drilling pay attention to the best times to refill and dispose of your fluid using natural breaks in drilling to refill tanks that might not be completely empty and swap out disposal tanker trucks though the first might not be completely full

Underground drilling is a tough job and every project has its own surprises But by planning ahead and checking all the boxes before you get started you can save yourself from unnecessary headaches lost time and emergency spending
