Editor(s) have their say:'m sure you've had your ESP buzz wearing off as work takes over this Marc
But here's the Image coming at you with a small dose of ESP to keep you goifor the three short weeks until a blissful April break (hopefully) devoid of woThe Extended Studies Program (of course we studied, you argue) was fulladventure, new experiences, and most definitely, fun. While not everyone camback with no injuries (Mountain Biking is tough business!), I'm hoping we call agree it was definitely a trip that helped you learn more than you forgoterms of work! There were trips all around Tanzania, and as we came bahese experiences will have made us more mature, a week older, hopefully wis
or perhaps simply a little more sunburnt!

The trip to Mikumi was filledwith catching up on lost sleep! After 6-7 hours, we arrived atVuma Hills (our hotel) andmmediately went on our first
game drive. We saw stripeyzebras, exotic birds, gracefulmpalas, huge elephant,
elegant giraffe and even got aight of the hungry hippos athe hippo pool! Later that
evening a delicious dinner wasprepared for us and the nightended with an interesting talk
f rom Ms. P i l la r aboutphotography. The next morning, us aspiringphotographers got off to anearly start as we hit the safari
cars at 7am. That morning wewere fortunate enough to havethe lions pose as our models! We then headed to Udzungwawhich was another long drive.Upon arriving at Udzungwa,we ate lunch before headingout to the local rubber factory. There we learnt how the sap
from trees turns into rubbequite interesting actually! Before dinner we had anotpresentation from Ms.Piwhich included some ba
tips and techniques for takphotos. We had a hike planned for next day but, before that, had the luxury of seeingb u n ch o f r ed co lobmonkeys hanging aroundsome trees. We hiked to top of the Sanjay Water

UAACPThe trip to the UnitedA f r i c a n A l l i a n c eC o m m u n i t y C e n t r e(UAACC) in Arusha wasthe most invigorating andworthwhile ESP I havebeen on since joining IST.
The spirit of activismwithin us was illustratedthrough a mural that waspainted on one of the wallsin the centre, while thosewho are less visually artisticfocussed their efforts on theproduction of two original
songs - both centereda rou n d eq u a l i t y a n dchange. We did just abouteverything from rocking outwith Mama C (CharlotteO'Neal) to meeting PeteO'Neal and learning about
his experiences as part ofthe Black Panther party. For sure it wasn't a trip forthe fainthearted - notbecause we swam withsharks or jumped off cliffedges - but because it forcedus to confront actual
problems within society arealize how we may contr ibut ing to thoproblems so we can begincreate solutions and makchange for the betterdefinitely recommend
ESP to everyone.-Wendy Chikowero

Usambara bikingA small group of students had beennticipating there ESP for weeks. After
multiple essays, reports, projects and, for therade ten students, the dreaded Personalroject, the anticipated Monday had finallyome. The thought of flying through the
Usamabara mountains, hearing nothing buthe sounds of bike spokes and the wind
whooshing through your ears was soatisfying that you could almost taste it onour tongue.ome would say that the bus ride there was
he best part but I would have to disagree. The best part of the trip would have to benjoying an amazing swim in the waterfalln the last day of the trip. The feeling of therisp, freezing cold spring water tricklingown our aching bodies after the 2 days of
ntense mountain biking made all the painnd sweat worth it -Asli Shebe 10

KiteboardingThere are quite a few ESPs to choose from when the time comes to doo. You could go take pictures of animals, climb mountains, walk all
day to nowhere in particular or even spend a week in Zanzibar, learn
how to kite-board or scuba dive. After all, taming the wind and the seawhilst making a bunch of memories doesnt just sound pretty cool its! This is the ESP for the adrenalin junkie. Sure you get burnt to arazzle, and swallow some sea water, but the rush you get from flying
over the sea cannot be compared to anything else, be it surfing, kateboarding or snowboarding. Nothing comes close! So in a few
months time, when youre debating amongst yourselves about ESP topick, dont think. Just put kite boarding down as your first choice, and pray youre lucky enough to get in.
