Issue 3– 21st February 2017

School Council Election 2017

Attached to this week’s newsletter is information relating to the 2017 School Council Election. Nominations open

Tuesday 21st February and close next Tuesday the 28th of February at 4.00pm. Nomination forms are available at

the school office. We require 6 Parent members and 2 DET members. All you need is an interest in your child’s

school and the desire to work in partnership with others.

I would like to thank our outgoing School Council members Ron Ismay, Craig Riordan, Lynne McKenzie, Amanda

Sluggett, Caroline Cocks, Georgina O’Halloran, Colleen Petschel and Murray Robinson, for their dedication and

commitment to promoting and improving our school during their time on School Council. I would also like to

encourage them to nominate for a position in the 2017 School Council to continue the important work we are

doing.

Support your Students in their Study Skills : Free Session on Study Skills for Parents

The school is running a number of sessions on Tuesday 28 February on the skills of

studying. The presentation is through the accredited provider of Elevate Education.

This is particularly relevant for any VCE students but also for all students.

All year 7 to 12 students will attend sessions during the day. In the afternoon at 5PM

(in rooms 5&6) there will be a session designed specifically for parents. Please attend if

possible as the information will help you to encourage and understand your child’s

studies.

Rainbow P-12 College Junior School Swimming Sports

@ Rainbow Swimming Pool

Friday 3rd March

Starting time 10 am.

Students are expected to come to school as normal.

Clothing for the day – House colours or uniform.

Food – snacks, water, packed lunch or money to buy food from the parent clubs BBQ.

Students are to bring their bathers, rashie and towels. At least two towels are required as the

students are in and out of the water during the day.

Suitable sunhat.

Old Windcheater – if the weather is cool it will keep the student warm.

Sunscreen is provided by the school, however, if you child has a sensitivity please bring some from

home.

Pool canteen will only be open during the lunch break and after the sports.

Lunch break will be approximately at 1pm.

Parents club BBQ prices - Chicken Steaks - $4.50

Hamburgers - $2.50 Sausages - $2.00

END OF DAY ORGANISATION

If you intend on taking your child directly from the pool can you please complete the form below and

return to Mrs Gregory by Wednesday the 1st of March. Students who are not being picked up will be

returning to the school and will be dismissed at the normal time.

Swimming Notice for Junior School

We will be swimming on Friday the 24th February and then on the Friday the 3rd of March (Sports day).

On Friday the 24th February the Grade 3/4/5/6 will be swimming from 1pm to 2pm - they will be having

an early lunchtime and will require a packed lunch (sorry for any inconvenience). P/1/2 will be swimming

from 2pm to 3.10pm and will be having a normal lunchtime.

Rainbow P-12 Swimming for Senior School The senior Rainbow P-12 Swimming Sports were held on Thursday 16 February under pleasant weather conditions. All students who swam need to be congratulated on a superb effort. Many parents, grandparents and friends attended which made the students all the more enthusiastic about their swimming. The lunch was provided by the Parents Club and was well appreciated. Parent volunteers such as Amanda Sluggett and Carolyn Cocks are thanked for their efforts all day. The overall house winners were Hindmarsh scoring 488 points; Albacutya scored 417 points. Congratulations to both houses and especially the captains and vice-captains for making the sports such an enthusiastic and smooth running event . The Individual Grand Aggregate Award went to Lily Klemm who also broke many records on the day. Her results show what happens with persistence and grit. Matthew Thomas was the boy’s overall champion. Unfortunately the Albacutya house captains team won the parent / teacher/house captains race with a decisive victory over teachers and parents. Hindmarsh Junior School elects Captains

Pancake Day

Once again the College will be participating in Pancake Day at the Rainbow Fire Station on Tuesday 28th February. Prices are as follows: Savoury Pancakes - $5.00 Choices are: Crab Meat, Sweet and Sour Chicken, Spaghetti Bolognaise & Tuna Sweet Pancakes - $5.00 Choices are: Strawberry and Ice Cream or Bananas and Ice Cream Plain Pancakes - $2.00 Choices are: Maple Syrup, Lemon & Sugar, Jam & Cream, Ice Cream and Butter. Can parents please note that students in the Junior area from Prep to Grade 6 that the pancakes will be for morning tea. Students must bring their normal lunch for that day. Senior school Year 7 to 12 will be going to have pancakes during normal school lunch time Could students write their names, orders and year on the outside of an envelope and have correct money inside and return the envelope to the college by Monday 27th February.

Southern Mallee Cluster Swimming Carnival On the 17th of February, 15 students headed to the Hopetoun pool for the annual Southern Mallee Cluster Swimming Carnival. Accompanying the students was a large cheer squad of parents and grandparents. Throughout the day the students displayed the schools character strengths; grit, optimisms and social intelligence as they participated and supported each other. Student comments ……. I am very proud of my school because they were trying their best and showing all of the character strengths. Clarissa I liked how we would cheer on each other. Shekinah I liked how everyone tried their best. Heidi I liked how we all cheered and participated and how we all did our personal best. Ayla I liked how we all had fun and did our personal best. Nekeisha I liked how everyone tried their best and had a fun time. Lewis I liked how everyone tried their best and even if they didn’t win they still had a smile on their face. Shanae It was an amazing day as everyone tried their best and even if they didn’t win they had fun. Tessa I liked the day because everyone participated. Oscar I liked swimming with kids my own age. Flynn Everyone was trying their best and they all did very good. Lenny I really enjoyed the day and loved swimming in every event. Lucy I thought it was wonderful because everyone was cheering each other on. Holly It was good because everyone was participating. Will It was fun because everyone was keen to swim. Cooper.

A special thank you to the parents and Mr. Smith who volunteered to take on our school’s allocated jobs for the day.

The following students been selected to compete at the Little Desert Swimming Carnival at Horsham on Tuesday 28th February; Lucy Thomas (freestyle, breaststroke), Lewis Cocks (freestyle, backstroke), Shanae Bastin (freestyle, relay), Shekinah Hurlstone (freestyle, backstroke, relay) and Nekeisha Bastin (freestyle, relay). Asthma and Anaphylaxis Forms If you require on e of these forms please contact Leonie Clarke at the College. The plans must be filled in by your GP on the original coloured form and returned to the college.

Vaccinations The first round will be held on Monday 27th February. Consent forms will be sent home with Year 7 students on Thursday.

Junior Swimming Sports Junior school parents who wish to swim in the parent relay please bring your bathers.

PARENTS CLUB—Upcoming Dates Friday 3rd March—Junior Swimming Sports—Parents Club will be looking for helpers to cook the BBQ and serve. Donation of 6L of Coleslaw and 2kg onion (peeled and cut ready to cook) needed please. Prices for BBQ—Sausages $2, Hamburgers $2.50, Chicken Steaks $4.50.

Parents & Friends Meeting All leaders, superheros, parents and friends are invited to the Parents & Friends Meeting on Wednesday 22nd February at 2pm. Agenda Fete, What’s going on at the school (Mr. Coffey’s report), Future projects to be sponsored by Parents and Friends.

The World Around Us Each week in the junior school we will pick a country out of a hat. Students will have a week to find out a fun fact about that country. All fun facts will go into a box and one fact will be selected out each week to be pinned on our map board. Everyone that enters a fun fact goes into the draw for a weekly prize.

An election is to be conducted for members of the School Council of Rainbow P-12 College.

Nomination forms may be obtained from the school and must be lodged by 4.00 pm on Tuesday 28th

February

2017.

The ballot will close at 4.00 pm on Friday 10th

Following the closing of nominations a list of the nominations received will be posted at the school. The terms of office, membership categories and number of positions in each membership category open for election are as follows –
