We were entertained a few weeks ago by the Year 3s as they presented a great version of ‘Flat Stanley’. Since

then, they have produced their own ‘Flat’ stories. The idea being that they had to change the main character.

The photo shows Mr Keirnan and the children standing proudly in front of their terrific display. Mr Keirnan has

been amazed with the writing skills and efforts shown by his class. They have fully embraced the T4W (Talk for

Writing) program and are seeing the amazing results. This whole school literacy program is helping to bring

about some awesome results in writing, spelling and reading.

Sports Day

The tabloid sports day is almost here. This will be your last chance to go into the draw for the best seat at the

carnival. Don’t forget we have faction Polo’s in stock in the office. We have included a program in this newsletter

so that you can get an idea of when your child will be participating. During the morning tabloid session, all of the

children are involved. Parents are allowed to follow their children around the Tabloid stations. In the afternoon

we hold our individual races.

Naplan 2017

Even though the NAPLAN is only “one test on one day” it is nice to see improvements across our school. Year 3’s

and 5’s would have recently taken their test results home. What we saw on a school level was;

Year 5 Improvements in:

Writing

Spelling

Grammar and Punctuation

Numeracy

Year 3 Improvements in :

Writing

Spelling

Reading

Numeracy

If you wish to speak to your child’s teacher about the NAPLAN please come in and seem them. A big

congratulations to all the staff at Rivervale for working hard to bring about improvement. Our journey has just

began.

BEFORE/AFTER SCHOOL CARE

We are exploring the possibility of entering into a partnership with a OSH (out of school hours ) care group.

Feedback from parents tells us that this is something that a lot of you would appreciate. If you have not yet done

so, could you please complete and return the survey to the office. We have surveys at the front office if you have

misplaced the original one.

BOOK WEEK

What a wonderful Book Week we had last week, with the highlight being our Book Week Parade. It was great to

see so many students, staff and even parents in their favourite book character costume. As a school we would like

to thank our exceptional library officer Mrs Terri Dufty. Not only does she always have our library looking

wonderful she also makes the library a place of fun and learning.

Mrs Dufty helped to organise a great Book Week and parade.
