PARENT WELCOME MORNING TEA
It was terrific to have so many “old” and new faces gathered for our parent
welcome morning tea 2 weeks ago. It is very clear after speaking to so many
parents that there is a real thirst for community involvement and for
parents to be truly engaged in their child’s learning.
PLAYGROUP
We have run a playgroup at Rivervale for the past 8 years. This year that
playgroup has to be managed by an outside agency. We have selected Play-
group WA to help coordinate the Rivervale Playgroup. If you would like to
be involved or have friends or relatives looking for a playgroup you can let
them know that this group meets on a Tuesday morning from 9-11am in
TLC 2
LOTE CLASSES BEGIN
Last week we began our Languages Other Than English
(LOTE) classes for year 3 students. The LOTE being
taught is Indonesian. Kami ada banyak murid murid itu
pandai sekali di Bahasa Indonesia (we have many
students who are already very clever when speaking
this language). In 2019 LOTE will be made available to
year 3 and year 4 students.
P and C
At our recent Parent Welcome Morning Tea we
discussed re introducing the Rivervale P and C. We had 10 parents indicate a strong interest. We need at least 7
parents to hold recognised positions so that we can then register the P and C with a group called WACSSO - WA
Council of State School Organisations. The pre cursor to the Rivervale P and C – The Rivervale Parent Group will
be meeting on WEDNESDAY APRIL 4 AT 9am IN THE LIBRARY- ALL ARE WELCOME.
PLAYGROUNDS CLOSING TIME
It is always great to hear and see children and parents enjoying themselves at school. At the end of the day we
have quite a few parents who stay on the school grounds and let their children play. Many schools do not allow
this. Rather than going down this path immediately, I thought that we could trial a few rules to ensure that
everyone is catered for.
Gates will be locked at 3:30pm (3:00 pm on Thursday)- this gives you over 30 minutes to enjoy the
school surroundings with your child.
Only children who have parents/guardians present are allowed to stay onsite- YOU AS THE
PARENT HAVE TO SUPERVISE YOUR CHILD’S PLAY. Our staff are busy preparing for the next
day- they can not be expected to be on duty.
Our cleaners need to clean toilets, drink fountains, verandas etc….They cannot do this job if these
areas are still being used. When the cleaners mop wet area floors and toilet floors they become very
slippery and dangerous. We have negotiated with the cleaners to do these areas after 3:30pm.
We really hope that this attempt to compromise works - if not then we will have to ensure that all children are
off site by 3:15pm.
RESET
I thought that it would be good to share one of the whole school strategies that we are initiating to ensure a
calm transition between break time and class time. We are teaching the children to
RESET when they hear the first siren. To RESET means to STOP, THINK, DO. They need
to stop the activity that they are engaged in, think about whether they need to pack
away equipment, go to the toilet, or get a drink and then walk to their classroom line.
This notion of RESETTING can be used in a lot of situations. We are trying to instil the
useful life long strategy of being reflective, assessing situations and managing
emotions.
STAFF EMAIL ADDRESSES
SHOPPER DOCKETS
Thanks to everyone who has been kind enough to bring in
Coles dockets. We suggest that you find a friend or relative
who attends a school that supports this program and pass the
dockets on to them. The reason that RPS does not relates to
supporting local business. Tony and the staff at the Rivervale
IGA have been terrific supporters of this school for many years.
Tony has passed on thousands of dollars to support Literacy
Programs, Play Equipment Programs and our Uniform Initiative
in 2016.
