There’s no shame in getting your word out!

The human being is a passionatecreature. Whether here in Massena,NYC, Los Angeles, Austin, or anywherein the world—East or West. The landdoesn’t decide this. It’s what we are;how we’re made. Think of those

whom you are especially fond, or whom appeal to youmost, whether in the media, your neighborhood, orinner circles. What is it about them with which youidentify?—that particular element that appeals to you:Passion. The passion we see in others reminds us there’smuch more to life and living than simply existing.America has been fortunate for a very long time, partlybecause we are a passionate people with a history ofstrong, passionate leadership. In fact, every nation thathas ever achieved greatness, achieved it at the helm ofpassionate leadership. Indeed, passion is a good thing.

A knife, on the other hand, is a good thing too—whenused to cut meat. However, when used to cut peopledown to shreds solely to exhibit one’s ability to do so, isnot…well…such a good thing. Is it, neighbor? Theproblem America is facing today is derived from a lackof respect and from people passionate about whatthey’re ‘against’. There are far too many Americans whowant to be passionate for their own notoriety and/orvanity; so, instead of being passionate ‘for’ anything, they’re passionate ‘against’…well…ultimatelyeverything! Our culture is being corrupted not only inthat so many Americans are thinking of bad as goodand police as the bad guys but also in that if they havenothing to be passionate ‘for’ then being passionate‘against’ something or someone is an equal alternative.Well, it’s not! Those who think it is, use words that cut likeknives, like a madman stabbing repeatedly solelybecause he’s holding a knife. This attitude is at the rootof the biggest problems our nation is struggling withtoday—like our present financial crisis, for instance.

The irony of it all is that television news channels arefilled with experts expressing how to fix the economy. So many different and varying solutions, but none eventouch the surface. Recovering from our financial crisisisn’t akin to balancing a checkbook or anything at all todo with math. The only thing those experts areachieving is exacerbating the problem. The reasonAmerica is in a huge financial crisis is because too manyAmericans have been too passionate about what theyare ‘against’. One has to be ‘for’ something in order tocontain substance, and to that extent, meaning. Passionwithout substance, exercised ‘against’ anything oranyone, becomes an increasingly negative energy. Addmalice into negative energy, and we have a verydestructive force—self destructive. Share that energy, hence an entirely new kind of plague. This plague is notthe result of bio-terrorism; psycho-terrorism, maybe!—but that would simply be passing the blame when we’reto blame for our own actions and inactions. Our nationis on the verge of self-destruction! (Don’t panic!—it canbe reversed). It’s already epidemic, and the world isbracing for the pandemic ripple effect of our financialcrisis.

Anything that can promote growth and better living canalso weaken or lay to waste those who utilize or exerciseit without respect. Passion, notwithstanding! Thenegative use of passion in our culture and politics is theproblem. Once that is fixed, America will be able to getback on a positive road to recovery.

The big Question Mark on the front page asks “Who AreThey?” That’s today’s profile in this issue of The MassenaNews: ‘The Against Mentality’. (Hint: the question shouldnot be Who, but Why.)

America: The Greatest Nation on Earth, and thelast remaining Superpower. We have achievedpeace in the world through our strength andsuperior firepower. No other nation

on earth can meet us on a level battle field interms of military might. If any nation dared confront usmilitarily—and we unleashed our full potential—theireffect upon us would be akin to chucking spears againstassault rifles & rocket launchers, in one scenario; in anotherscenario, against tanks; and yet in another scenario, completeannihilation. In either scenario, decimation. Why hasn’t anynation confronted us militarily, lately—because they all loveus? Right! We are so powerful and technologically advancedthat even unconventional acts of warfare (plots/attempts fromterrorists) get disrupted each time—information technologyhas been putting the dots together to help our intelligencecommunities. We have no formidable enemy, save for one: Ourself. Sadly, America is becoming its own worst enemy. We, thepeople, are mentally conditioning ourselves against our self.

With so many Americans thriving on negativity, what is theoutcome? A self-defeating nation. This is what’s happening allacross America: 1 person steps up to try to do something goodand try to make a difference and 10 others launch smearcampaigns, second guessing his/her every action & motive, using semantics to purport fault through petty distinctions. Not only is this occurring in politics but also in neighborhoodsand communities all across America. More energy is used tomarginalize others than on one’s own mission and agenda. That’s how American culture is changing: where it’s just reallycool for people to speak so passionately about who and whatthey’re against. How often have you heard, “Oh I just don’t likehim” (or her)? and felt drenched from all the toxic thoughtshaving been thrown upon you by that person’s anger?

Yet, many blame the media for meeting the American demandfor negativity. Many in the media, including politicians, arecompletely irresponsible and reckless with their rhetoric, butthat’s perfectly legal. (Our freedom of speech is protected bythe First Amendment in the Bill of Rights). In fact, manypoliticians say anything to appeal to their base. The first

priority for many politicians, I think, is to appeal to theirbase. The most important part of being a politician formany—it seems to me, anyway!—is that they tell their base

what they want to hear. (Do you get that sameimpression?) Honesty, truthfulness, integrity are not

necessarily required leadership characteristics iftheir base does not want it from them. (Does

anyone reading this not agree with mystatement? C’mon, let’s hear

it—Send a letter to the Editor!)

If there is an enemy out there who trulywants to destroy our nation and/or to put andkeep a leash on it, if that enemy had theintelligence to implement a feasible attack, the first thing would be to read “TheRepublic of Plato” for a very insightfulunderstanding of how/why a democracycan go terribly wrong. Anyone who’s evercome up against a formidable adversary andhas achieved victory over it knows that theonly way to achieve that victory is by turning the opponent’sstrengths into weaknesses. Every strength can be aweakness. Start with the greatest first. What’s is the greateststrength of the American people? Passion. What are some ofour Nation’s strengths?—Well, for starters, ourMulticulturalism and Multilateralism, as well as everyAmendment in our Bill of Rights. Enough said. Once ourstrengths have been identified and a plan is formulated, afull-scale attack through every facet of the media would belaunched—through television, radio, web, and email, to getinto the minds of Americans and begin re-engineering ourentire culture. (This could already be happening!) The extentat which Americans are feeding off negativity is horrendous. How often do you see citizens thriving on the euphoria theyget when being elevated from putting others down? There’ssomething very wrong with that. And this is why, we as anation, are becoming self-defeating, brother turning againstbrother. But it’s not too late! We can turn the tables! We areresponsibile for our own actions and inactions, for what webelieve in and why we believe in it, and for what we want.

?

For quite some time now, we have been hearing leftright and centerabout the "Law of Attraction". In her bookbased on the movie withthe same title, "The Secret", Rhonda Byrne educates people on howto use positive thinking and feeling positive to create life-changingresults. The principle is simple: you attract more of what you focuson, therefore, if you focus on "not having money" for example, allyou attract is more of "not having money". On the other hand, if themessage you send out is how successful you are, all you get back ismore success! This can be applied to everything, including love, health and money.

In the book "The Answer", John Assaraf and Murray Smith go onestep further. The Answer takes this basic principle and applies it tothe business world.

Last week, my car broke down. It's an older Hyundai Accent and theclutch just decided it had served me long enough. Of course, I wentto my mechanic and had it replaced. A thousand dollars later, Iwent to pick up my car and felt that it was ready to go on for a fewmore years without costing me an arm and a leg. But myenthousiasm was short lived.

"It's a good little car", the mechanic said, "it's got a good little motoron it. But you will have to change the timing belt soon."

I asked how urgent the repair was. He answered that it should bedone immediately. I didn't have another $500 to put on it at the

time, so I left, doubt in my mind, feeling like I was riding in a timebomb, ready to explode any minute.

This got me thinking about the Law of Attraction.

If indeed we attract more of what we constantly focus on, in thiscase my faulty timing belt, am I just doomed? If I can't help it butthink that my timing belt will break very soon, am I not causing itto break? And if this is the case, how powerful is that? Nowonder mechanics make a ton of money! All they have to do isplant a little seed of a doubt that some part of your car will soonneed to be repaired and BOOM! It breaks! But does it breakbecause the part is actually old and worn out? What's not to saythat we just focus on it so much that we actually wear it out withour minds?

Quantum physics have proven that particles react differentlywhen they are being observed. But do they react differentlywhen being thought of? I think that mechanics are ontosomething. I think they probably are part of a highly secret groupthat teaches how to use the law of attraction to attract morebroken auto parts. Heck, they probably teach "The Secret 101",followed by "The Answer 102" in mechanic school!

Only one question remains. How do I use this to attract moreadvertisers?

Jae Mitch StoryPersonal Info Real Name, Jacob Mitchell.Born and Raised in Massena, NY.Half American / Half Canadian Background.

What I’m Trying to DoSong Writer / Producer.I’m a Lyricist, someone who concentratesmore on metaphors and poetic deviceswithin their lyrics.I’m trying to pursue a career in the musicindustry, the Rap / Hip-Hop Genre.

How I Got StartedI’ve been a musician since the 6th grade. Istarted playing percussion in JeOersonElementary band up and until High School. From there I purchased a Peavey drum set andstarted drumming at home. I also performedin my 4th, 5th, and 6th grade talent showswhich included singing songs such as “Adam’sSong” by Blink 182 and “No Rain” by BlindMelon. In 4th grade, I was selected from mymusic teacher, and then selected afterauditions to perform in the High SchoolMusical “Oliver”.

Who In,uenced Me Marshall Mathers, “Eminem”, has always beenmy favorite artist ever since I was little. I canremember back to my childhood hiding hisvery explicit CD’s from my parents. Eventhough I couldn’t relate to his music muchback then, I just became hooked. As I gotolder I was able to rap all of Eminem’s songs

like they were my own. At that time, I had nointentions what so ever of ever becoming anartist.

About a Year ago, I metlocal rapper/lyricist Damien Lashomb. From themoment I heard his music I knew he hadpotential skill and knew what he was doing. Wethen became best friends.

A couple weeks after consistently hanging out,I came across the idea that I could write myown raps. Once I showed Damien what I hadwritten, he began to explain the basics of lyricalcomposure and how to put together yourwords correctly. He never once told me I wasbad, even though I was. For that, I still thankhim to this day for never giving up on me.

Day after day, I became more serious with it,until the point was clear that I had basics downand I knew what I was trying to do. Damientook me under his belt, he was my mentor. He

named me Jae Mitch after his favorite artist “JaeMillz”, and the name just stuck from there. Ilooked up to him like he was my own father. Hetaught me everything that I’ve ever learnedabout lyricism. After months of constantlystruggling to learn the process, I started“performing” at parties, and before I even knewit, with the help of some friends, you know whoyou are; Damien and I did a performance at alocal bar in front of a decent sized group ofpeople. No underage drinking, of course.

After that, we became more serious with it. Westarted recording songs with our ownequipment at my house. It’s an amazingexperience to produce a song and have peopleactually enjoy it. It’s the best feeling in theworld and it deRnitely puts a smile on yourface.

In May, 2011, Damien and I decided to goour separate ways over an argument. This iswhen I started becoming even more seriousabout my music and writing whole songs. After no time at all, I had enough materialto put together my Rrst mixtape.

Info About my Mixtape The Mixtape is called “Broken Dreams;Waking up to Reality”. I based the idea onhow hard life can be at times, and the roleof drugs people use to escape from theirstruggles.

The Mixtape has 15 tracks, all written, recorded, and produced by myself andmy business partner/roommate, TravisCasselman. All the songs will beavailable on Youtube, Facebook, andother internet websites. Hardcopies are

also available for 5 dollars, more formemorabilia and supporting purposes. The CDwas released on August 16th and was a veryanticipated local event. More than 300 peoplechose to attend the event I created onFacebook. I was very pleased.

Also, T-shirts will be available to the generalpublic sometime in September.

Explanation about Drug-RelationsI know some parents are going to listen to mysongs, and wonder why I talk about the thingsthat I do. The reason my songs talk about drugs

is because that’s the lifestyle I had in the lastyear. I have absolutely no problem admittingthat. The drugs that I have done were forexperimental purposes only and I do not

inSuence anyone at all to do the things that Ihave done in my life. I’m here to say to all theyounger teenagers around this area, that thosedrugs are in fact, incredibly bad and veryaddictive, not to mention illegal. I’m willing tosit down with anyone who is curious aboutthem and explain what they do and why youshouldn’t do them. I’ve been to rock bottom, and I’ve recovered from an addiction to Ecstasy,It’s NOT fun what-so-ever, Trust Me.

My Plans for the Future I’ve only been a lyricist for one year. This is thebeginning of my journey. If all goes well, I planon making music videos for my songs, sopeople can have a better experience. I’malready working on my 2nd Mixtape, I have notrevealed the name or the CD Cover, but it’ll bereleased in the near future! Basically to sum itall up, we’ll have to see how the public reactsto the music I release and we’ll go from there. There’s a 50/50 chance people are going to likeit, or hate it. The chances of making in themusic industry, not being from a major city, seems like 1 in a 1,000,000 chance to me, butmy dedication for music and gaining respect asI go, makes it all worth the shot.

Representing; Massena, NY I plan to represent Massena to the best of myabilities. I want to make this town a better placeto live in. If I ever gain the income to be able tocreate a safe place for kids to go and hang outand stay out of trouble, I’m all for it. I used tohate this town, but my father always told mehe raised me here for a good reason. If I onlyknew that reason.

How to Listen, Join, and Support theMovementYou can subscribe to my Youtube Channel,@ www.Youtube.com/TheJaeMitch Or Add me as a Friend,@ www.Facebook.com/TheJaeMitch.I am always willing to help someone in need,

or answer any questions at all.

Special Thanks to everyone who has supportedme so far! I hope you enjoy the music that Ihave released and all the songs I release in thefuture!

NYPA has completed workon the 14th of 16 turbine-generators to undergo refurbishing as part ofa $281 million initiative to ensure that the hydroelectric project remainsa reliable source for some of the lowest-cost electricity in the country, foryears to come.

“The Life Extension and Modernization Program at the St. Lawrence-FDRproject is truly indicative of our dedication to the ePciency andcontinuing operation of this vital generating facility,” said Michael J.Townsend, chair of the NYPA Board of Trustees. “The completion of the14th turbine-generator keeps us on track to complete the overall initiativeby 2013. The Power Authority is committed to investing in its criticalenergy infrastructure to ensure that these facilities are providing low-costpowers for the beneRt of New York State for years into the future.”

The Power Authority undertook the St. Lawrence LEM program to replaceor renovate the original major generating equipment in the power projectand improve the overall performance Sexibility and ePciency of thefacility, which has operated continuously since 1958.

The work has required a highly coordinated eOort involving nine majorcomponent manufacturers in achieving numerous installation milestones.Among the most signiRcant activities has been the disassembly andremoval of the turbines, the major component of the turbine-generatorunits, and the renovation of their turbine-pit locations to facilitate the

installation of the refurbished units.

Alstom Hydro USA, a global supplier of equipment and services for powergeneration and other industries, was awarded two independent contracts tomanufacture all 16 replacement turbines. The turbines are of two diOerent designs, corresponding with the original equipment manufactured by Baldwin LimaHamilton (BLH) and Allis Chalmers (AC).

At the time of St. Lawrence-FDR’s construction more than 50 years ago, no singlemanufacturer could meet the ambitious schedule for supplying the turbines. Theresponsibility was evenly divided between BLH and AC. Since 2007, the LEMprogram has centered on the AC turbines, following the replacement of the eightBLH units.

Among the design advances in the replacement turbines is a more ePcient shapefor harnessing available water from the St. Lawrence River to generate power. Thenew turbines also use stainless steel instead of the carbon steel composite of theoriginal equipment. Stainless steel is more resistant to corrosion and requires lessmaintenance, which will contribute to extending the life of the hydroelectric project.

Other elements of the LEM have included generator rewinding, installation of newswitchgear, replacement transformers, and modernization of protection and controlsystems.

When possible, the Power Authority has contracted with local businesses fordiOerent facets of the work, including rotor performance tests, electrical tie-ins andmechanical work. This has included companies in Massena, Ogdensburg, Canton,Gouverneur and Potsdam.

Over the decades of its operation, the St. Lawrence-FDR project has produced morethan 340 billion kilowatt hours of electricity, which would be suPcient power tomeet electricity demand in the U.S. for one month. The project has also preventedemissions of almost 175 million tons of greenhouse gases from fossil-fueled plants, avoiding the need for roughly 550 million barrels of oil.

The 800,000-kilowatt project’s largest customer is Alcoa in Massena, with more thanhalf of the facility’s generating output reserved under state law for businesses in St.Lawrence, JeOerson and Franklin counties. Hydropower allocations from the St.Lawrence-FDR project have more recently been made to Florelle Tissue, which hascommitted to investing $3.5 million to reopen a dormant paper mill in JeOersonCounty and create 75 new jobs and to Upstate Niagara Cooperative, a cooperativeof 375 New York dairy farmers, which has acquired and will reopen the recently idledNorth Lawrence Dairy processing facility in St. Lawrence County and create 100 newjobs over the next three years.

Have you ever been told the story aboutthe lady who lived in the city and the lady wholived in the country? Well, the lady from the citywas visiting the lady from the country for a fewdays. She remarked that her friend never locked herdoors; while she in the city always kept her doors locked at all times. On Sunday, they both left to drive to church. Getting outof the car, the lady from the country carefully locked all of her car doors and made sure that all of her car windows wereclosed tight. Her friend from the city questioned her on her strange actions. The lady from the country told her that if shedidn't do this, her car would be ,lled with zucchinis by the time they left church. Well, zucchinis are very proli,c, but not tothat extent! No matter, I have some excellent zucchini recipes for you to try. I hope you will ,nd them useful. Enjoy a greatweek!

IF YOU PLAN TO FREEZE ZUCCHINIRinse, dry and then grate up the garden zucchini. I like to pick them at medium size and leave the skins on before grating. If

they are very large, you may wish to peel them before grating. Measure the number of cups and place the grated zucchini in freezer bags, removingany air. Mark on the bags the date and number of cups of grated zucchini. When you thaw the zucchini, you will end up with only half the volume youstarted with before freezing. Squeeze out any excess liquid.
