A Teacher for All Seasons
A teacher is like Spring, Who nurtures new green sprouts,
Encourages and leads them, Whenever they have doubts.
A teacher is like Summer,
Whose sunny temperament Makes studying a pleasure,
Preventing discontent.
A teacher is like Fall, With methods crisp and clear,
Lessons of bright colors And a happy atmosphere.
A teacher is like Winter,
While it's snowing hard outside, Keeping students comfortable, As a warm and helpful guide.
Teacher, you do all these things,
With a pleasant attitude; You're a teacher for all seasons, And you have my gratitude!

The Illinois Environmental Protection Agency honored a group
of distinguished fifth and sixth grade students selected for their
creative skills used to express environmental awareness, as part
of the Agency’s 28th Annual Poster, Poetry and Prose Contest.
Ali Patel, from the 5th grade, was selected as one of the top
award winners from throughout the state of Illinois and was rec-
ognized at a special reception in the Old State Capitol building
in downtown Springfield. Sana Naffakh, also from the 5th
grade, was chosen as a finalists.
Through the Poster, Poetry and Prose Contest, fifth and sixth
grade educators were provided with a theme and resources to
discuss in the classroom. Students were then given an opportu-
nity to express and share what they have learned through the
creation of posters and written works. This year’s
theme, Transportation and Air Pollution…What Are the Green
Solutions? focused on the importance of understanding green
transportation, how it relates to air quality, and the cleaner, more
sustainable options for transportation.
The winning entries will be on exhibit in the atrium at Illinois
EPA’s headquarters in Springfield from April 20 through May
18; the top 12 entries are featured on the Illinois EPA’s web site
at epa.illinois.gov. See the attached link below.

The Council of Islamic Organizations of Greater
Chicago (CIOGC) held its 7th Annual Illinois
Muslim ACTION! Day (IMAD) on Wednesday,
April 29, 2015 for a day of advocacy and civic en-
gagement. During IMAD, Muslim community
leaders meet with legislators to discuss the topics
and issues that are most relevant to the Chicago-
land Muslim community as well as the greater Illi-
nois community.
The Council has restructured IMAD with a greater
focus on community leaders meeting with legisla-
tors, and will select youth to participate in IMAD
as Senate Pages. The Council is also initiating an
effort to encourage the community to maintain
connections with their legislators throughout the
year. IMAD’s new infra-structure is aimed to more
effectively have the voice of the Illinois Muslims
heard to bring light to concerns and issues relevant
to you.
Once again this year, our 7th and 8th graders par-
ticipated in this great annual civic event and they
had a chance to meet and speak with Representa-
tive David Leich and Senator Darin Lahood at the
Illinois State Capitol during the event!

Summer is often a time when your
child gets easily bored. It is difficult
to find activities for him or her to do.
Sometimes local entertainment attrac-
tions don’t fit into the family budget.
Here are some low cost or no cost ac-
tivities that will keep your child happy
and learning all summer.
Contact your child’s teacher to
find out whether the school offers
any type of summer program.
Ask your child’s teacher for any
recommended activities that you
can do at home with your child
during the summer.
Help you child obtain a library
card.
Visit the local museum and park
department to see what opportuni-
ties they offer for summer learn-
ing activities.
Make time to spend with your
child to continue learning over the
summer months.
Visit second hand stores to find
books, games, and toys that can
be useful in strengthening aca-
demic concepts.
Find out whether summer activity
programs are available from the
masjid, local community organi-
zations like the YMCA, Peoria
Park District, and ICC College for
kids, etc.
Call the tourist bureau for free
copies of activities to do in you
area. Specify that you want free or
low cost activities.
Plant a garden with your child-
then make bouquets for others
with the flowers and salads with
the vegetables.
Arrange for your child to volun-
teer at the local senior center,
childcare facility or hospital.
