During the brain's early years, neural connections are being made at a rapid rate. Young children’s brains are constantly making connections in order to make sense of what they learn. Viewing artworks allows children to find new combinations of existing ideas, concepts and perceptions. Abstract artworks, in particular, offer rich opportunities for creative associations. Discover how looking at artworks can encourage brain building through divergent thinking. Is a circle merely a circle or is there is more than meets the eye? Through art viewing, children look to learn and learn to look.

This programme is brought to you by the Early Childhood Development Agency and is open to parents who have children aged 6 years and below. Seats are limited and based on a first-come, first-served basis.

NELLY MAY HAS HER SAYAuthor: Cynthia DefelicePublisher: New york: margaret ferguson Books, 2013Call No.: Junior Lending Picture Book English 398.2 DEf – [foL]

Poor but hardworking Nelly May has to learn a new language when she becomes Lord Ignasius Pinkwinkle’s housekeeper and cook. Words like “restful slumberific”, “scooperooty”, and ”pop-and-sizzle” don’t mean what they actually mean. But thanks to her excellent memory, Nelly May learns quickly, and her quick-thinking later helps save her master’s castle during an emergency. The comedic expressions of the characters and the humorous storyline will definitely keep children and parents reading to the end.

I like the Usborne Science Encyclopaedia as Science is one of my favourite subjects.
