The precise way to monitor spindles
Rieter supplies a complete range of machin-ery for manufacturing high-quality staple fiberyarns and also has all the relevant know-howat its disposal – from fiber to yarn.
In addition to the machines, Rieter’s productoffering also includes data acquisition solu-tions tailored to customers requirements.Online quality and production monitoring are the key to the optimum utilization of re-sources in your spinning mill. For end spin-ning machines in particular, high productivityand quality are crucial factors for a spinningmill’s competitiveness.Only by monitoring each individual spindlecan the production process be systematicallyoptimized on the basis of clear and precisefacts.
ISM – Individual Spindle MonitoringISM is Rieter’s individual spindle sensor forprecise data acquisition on ring spinning machines.
Equip your ring spinning machines with ISMand utilize the benefits of online monitoringfor the success of your spinning mill.

Optimizing production and quality
Advantages of the individualspindle sensor• No moving parts• No maintenance necessary• Every spindle is monitored at all
times – continuous monitoring• Precise data acquisition at every
spinning position facilitates informative analyses
• Total documentation of productionand quality
Higher production• Fewer ends down due to selective
maintenance • Optimized speed curve based on
precise analyses
Improved quality• Fewer clearer cuts on the winder
due to selective maintenance • Higher yarn quality due to
selective segregation of slipperspindles
Operating principle of the ISM individual spindle sensorISM is based on optical scanning of the traveler. If the traveler is no longer rotating on the ring, the control system detects an end down andindicates this by illuminating the spindle LEDdirectly at the spinning position.
Since the traveler speed is continuously monitored, slipper spindles (spindles running at less than their rated speed for adefined period of time) can also be precisely identified and indicated.
Benefits of the individual spindle sensorThe number of ends down is a critical factorin efforts to achieve an optimum balance between production and quality in ring spin-ning.
The optimum speed curve for each article canonly be defined by accurately recording thenumber of ends down.Exaggerated high speeds and the resultingends down are followed by high numbers ofclearer cuts on the winder, which leads to loss of quality in the yarn and considerably reduces production efficiency.
However, low numbers of ends down can also mean that potential is still available foroptimizing the speed curve. ISM – the Rieter individual spindle sensor –helps to optimize the speed curve on the ringspinning machine and displays the influenceexerted by various factors, such as raw mater-ial blend, on the number of ends down.

The direct route to dealing with problem spindles
3rd level: spindleThis level indicates which spindle is operat-ing outside the defined tolerances. Here the malfunction can be identified pre-cisely on the basis of the light signal shownby the spindle LED:
No light: normal operation,no malfunction
Continuous light: end downFlashing light: slipper spindle
The spindle LED makes it much easier to findends down, especially with fine-count yarns.
Advantages of the 3-levellight guidance system:• Easily detect ends down• Immediately identify slipper
spindles • Deal with problems selectively
through personnel guidance• Optimize operations by reducing
routine tours of inspection
Checking each individual spindle position isnow a thing of the past. The 3-level light guidance system leads per-sonnel directly to the problem spindles bymeans of signal lamps.Personnel can thus intervene selectivelywherever necessary. Routine tours of inspec-tion are reduced to a minimum.
Priorities are set by the different levels of thelight guidance system, and working efficiencyis improved.
1st level: machineTwo signal lamps on the headstock and tail-stock of the ring spinning machine indicatethe side of the machine on which the endsdown threshold has been exceeded.
2nd level: sectionA high-intensity LED (Light Emitting Diode)on each section (24 spindles) indicates thatan end down or a slipper spindle has beendetected in this section.

SPIDERweb mill monitoring systemThe SPIDERweb mill monitoring system developed by Rieter covers all machines fromthe card to the spinning machine.
The data are collected centrally and graphi-cally displayed in the form of various reportsand diagrams. The behavior of the machine, the changes in raw material blends and quality trends can be traced with a few mouseclicks.
The combination is the key! While ISM continuously monitors the spin-ning positions and systematically detectsends down and slipper spindles, SPIDERwebcollects all the information. All data are stored and enable a wide range ofanalyses to be performed. SPIDERweb andISM enable you to analyze, compare and printout the data from all your spinning positionscomfortably at your computer.

SPIDERweb diagrams / tablesSPIDERweb enables detailed analyses of ISMand production data. Tables or diagrams areavailable to meet every requirement.
For example, the spinning position exceptionreport accurately identifies the spinning positions that have exceeded the individuallyset alarm thresholds. On the basis of a faultreport printout, maintenance personnel canselectively service the spinning positionswhere frequent failures occur. Other tablesand diagrams facilitate analyses of slipperspindles, ends down (e.g. per 1000 spindlehours), start-up ends down, etc.
SPIDERweb clearly displaysthe following values (currentor also for previous shifts):• Efficiency of each single spinning
position • Number and duration of
- start-up ends down - start-up ends down per doff- Natural ends down - Slipper spindles- Ends down per machine side - Doffer processes
