Though we do our best to secure program locations, details, and times, occasionally we must make changes to

schedules, times or locations for programs. This can be due to any number of factors, included but not limited to facility con-cerns, maintenance, joint scheduling with the school system or required changes from the initial planning at the time of publi-cation. Enrollment numbers for programs can also facilitate these changes. If this occurs please be aware that we will make every effort to contact you with the information you have provided on your registration form. Please remember that an accurate, complete, and legible registration form is vital for us to contact you. We only provide your email information to the necessary instructors/coaches affiliated with the program for your participation. Cancellations: Registrants will be contacted by email or telephone if a class or trip is cancelled.

All classes, camps, programs, trips and athletic activities are filled on a first-come, first served basis. Each program must draw a minimum number of participants or it will be cancelled. If an activity is cancelled due to low en-rollment, you will be refunded your program fees. Please be sure to observe all registration closing dates for activities. Pro-gram fees must be paid at the time of registration. Payment is accepted in either cash, personal check, VISA or MasterCard. When payment is made using credit card a 2.5% convenience charge is added to the total for processing.

Early registration helps prevent cancellation. No registration is considered complete until payment is made and proper registration received. No Call-in registration is accepted. Registering after closing dates cannot guarantee your acceptance or space availability. In some cases, late registration will result in an additional fee if space is available and supplies may not be available to you. Special Needs: The City of Poquoson is committed to making reasonable accommodations as required by the Americans with Disabilities Act. To request a reasonable accommodation please allow a minimum of 3 weeks’ advance notice of need. All accommodation requests must be made in writing to the Department. To begin the process contact can be made by calling 868-3580. If a program is cancelled by the Parks and Recreation Department, the registrant will receive a full refund or credit. Refunds take up to 3 weeks for processing. No refunds will be granted after the first class has begun. No refund will be granted when supplies have been purchased on your behalf. Note: specific programs have a No Cancellation policy.

The Barracuda Swim Team is a competitive summer league swimming experience for youth. Together with other pools on the Peninsula throughout Newport News, Hamp-ton & York County, our Poquoson team is part of the GPSA swim league. This league works together to host a summer swim season for children up to age 18. The swim season will begin with practice May 29, 2012 and run through approximately the sec-ond week in August. Practice is held at the Poquoson Municipal Pool. Registration is open thru June 8, 2012. Meets are scheduled for various days throughout the summer. The team hosts meets as well as travels to other area pools. Transportation is not provided to meets. If your child swims, you will be required to serve in a volunteer capacity throughout the season. This volunteer commitment is required for your child to swim and requires a separate $100.00 deposit from the cost of registration. See Volunteer Commitment Form at PPR for details.

Team practice times are Monday thru Friday in the evenings after 6pm based on your age and ability. Cost is $155 per child. Extra $10.00 for non residents. No multiple child discount. Program #110

All swim team members will receive a pool pass as part of their registration fee. The pool pass is good for the entire sum-mer. No child may come to practice until properly enrolled through Poquoson Parks and Recreation. The Swim Team is not for children who need additional swimming skills through Swim Lessons. strokes, continuously and with adequate rhythmic breathing. 3) Children age 9 and up must be able to swim a minimum of 50 meters in both freestyle and backstroke, and at a techni-

cal level that is appropriate for their age. Additionally, children in this group must also show familiarity with both breaststroke or butterfly as well. The coaching staff makes this final determination for all swimmers. All children with-out prior swim team experience must attend the designated evaluation times prior to practicing or joining the team. Contact PPR for evaluation times.

More information about swimming requirements, bathing suit, and meet schedule, information is available at Poquoson Parks and Recreation. In the event that a child is deemed not ready for swim team, a program called “Strive for 25” or swim lessons will be offered to your swimmer.
