GamesAggravation of or injury as a result of pre-existing medical conditions

Children Parents and guardians must supervise games and activities and not permit their child to participate with any activity they are physically or emotionally at risk by playing.

Tripping, slipping or falling

Public and entertainers Keep area tidy. Do not lay cable in walk ways unless covered or taped down. Do not play games on potentially slippy surfaces. Do not play games where there are objects to trip over.

Balloon Modeller Always use a balloon pump to inflate the balloons. Inflating balloons by mouth can be dangerous. This is not recommended by manufacturers.

Public and entertainers Keep area tidy. Store boxes and bags neatly without risk of them falling or being walked into. Keep walk ways clear. Do not lay cable in walk ways unless covered or taped down.

Bubbles and Snow and smoke machine: Bubbles and Snow and smoke machine

Skin Irritation Mostly younger children

Pre-school children must be supervised by their parent or guardian. Tell people that they are playing with detergent and washing up liquid which is safe but can cause irritation. Advise people to rinse their hands in cold water after they have finished.

Falling on slippery surface

Staff and public Do not put bubbles or snow on any surface which may become slippery when soapy water is spilt on it.

Bubble and snow are best suited to a grass, carpeted or gravel surface. Organisers must provide a safe, non-slippery place for this activity.

Poking in face with a bubble wand or hit with plastic end of the ribbon

Smaller children Do not allow misbehaviour. Tell children not to swing the bubble wands around or to put their fingers in the bubble machine. Avoid overcrowding.

Electrocution Staff and public Do not do this activity near electrical equipment or near trailing wires.

Bubbles and snow can be a wet activity so please be aware of electrical hazards

Choking on foam, smoke or breathing difficulties

Staff and public Organisers to provide water at no charge if foam is swallowed. Organisers provide first aid or emergency services if needed.

Burns Staff Use caution when working with hot water and smoke.

Smoke and Haze fluid causing irritation

Staff Use gloves and goggles when working with snow, bubble and haze fluid. Use towels to mop up any spilled liquid immediately.

Damage to clothing and possessions

Staff and public Staff understand and accept responsibility for damage to their clothing and possessions when working with the snow, bubble and smoke machine. Staff to inform public of this potential damage to cover up anything they do not want to get wet.

Lifting heavy equipment

Staff Operators must use the correct lifting procedure.

Falling Objects Public and entertainers Set up theatre on flat surface. Ensure all connections in theatre framework are secure. Ensure woodwork is secure. Keep audience at least 2 metres away from the theatre.

FACE PAINTING AND GLITTER TATTOO RISK ASSESSMENT:Adverse skin due to apply face painting or glitter tattoo materials

Children and adults Use approved paints. Glitter tattoo materials. Do not paint children under the age of three/with sensitive skin(offer to paint hand/arm instead.) Advise people who appear to have skin conditions.

Children and adults Do not paint the infected area. Keep painting implements clean: use clean sponges per person, regularly wash brushes in use, regularly change water and clean brushes, water bowl after event.

Children and adults Do not paint children or adults with sensitive skin, eczema, open cuts or sores, or other skin conditions.

Offer to paint hand or arm instead.

FIRE PROCEDURE

In the event of a fire

On discovering a fire / or the fire alarm sounding (vocal), evacuate the building from the nearest fire door/exit: Entrance door and Fire Exit in the snooker area, through to lounge and exit lounge entrance.

On evacuating the building act calmly and quietly to avoid alarming / scaring the children. Take care on the stairs, do not rush the children which may result in accidents, provide reassurance

Additional Actions

Clothing and footwear All

Appropriate clothing must be worn to avoid injury or strangulation.Unless instructed to remove footwear such as bouncy castles or slides, footwear must be worn at all times.

All carpets and flooring are well maintained however there is still a risk of splinters or potentially broken glass.No child or person should crawl on the carpets or slide across wooden floors.

Running and chasing

All Children must not be left to chase each other as the facility is not a gym or similar type of facility.

Parents or event supervisors must not allow children to runabout. The club is not a games room or gym. There will be chairs, tables and other hard furniture that will be required for adults and children therefore will not be removed.

First Aid Event Organiser We recommend the event organiser has sufficient First Aid Kit for the number attending.

They should also have a person identified as a first aider

Deveronside Staff will have basic First Aid however the event organiser must have a First Aider who may be known to children and has experience supporting a child who may have an injury.

Deveronside agrees to hire the facility but not provide any staffing to attend to accidents or injury.
