GO & TELL: JUSTICEFROM THE BISHOP’S DESK
MINISTERS’ WIVES FELLOWSHIP
I love a new calendar. All of the boxes are empty, just waiting for us to fill them in with opportunities, events and special occasions. The blank spaces also will be filled with meetings, appointments and schedules. Opportunities and Responsibilities fill our everyday lives. Some bring joy (birthdays, anniversaries, parties, graduations, family reunions) while others bring apprehension (doctor/dental appointments, school tests, meetings). Life. It happens. We always have a choice in how we view each day. Some people wake up with, “Good morning, Lord!” while others arise grumble, “Good Lord, it’s morning!” We have a great opportunity to live with this determination: “This is the day the Lord has made. I will rejoice and be glad in it.” Even when we are faced with difficult decisions, consequences not of our doing and problematic happenings, we can know God is with us. We just commemorated Christmas, proclaiming “Immanuel … God With Us!” as we celebrated His First Arrival with Hope for His Second Coming. As we enter 2019, let us look for the unexpected happenings in our lives as opportunities not interruptions. One opportunity for us in 2019 is January 18 & 19 at the Prophetic Conference with Matthew Helland. These two days will provide you with the tools and experience to allow the Holy Spirit to guide and use you in blessing others through the prophetic, which is for the building up, encouraging and empowering of Spirit-filled Believers. I encourage every pastor and church leader to attend this important event to be equipped and released into divine destiny and to allow the Holy Spirit to develop your spiritual awareness, discernment, and insight in prophetic ministry. Another opportunity for NHM is church growth and health. Using the directive approved at the 2018 Quadrennial Conference, the NHM Executive Council has met with Rev. Josh Hannah, IPHC National Multiplication and Church Growth Consultant, and secured his services to assist all NHM churches to focus on “GO & TELL” and to equip our pastors and church leaders to lead our churches to become healthy, growing, and multiplying, reaching the lost and discipling the saints. Let us be equipped and released into our divine destiny. Let us be united in our efforts to complete the Great Commission. Let us GO & TELL!
One Sunday morning an elderly woman in the church approached me to comment on my dress. Actually, her statement was, “Sister Michelle is that a new dress you are wearing?” Somehow, in my mind I interpreted that to say, “Sister Michelle, is that how you are spending our pastor’s salary?” Whatever the translation, one thing is for sure…..people are always watching the pastor’s wife. What a responsibility placed upon our shoulders! (FYI: that sweet lady become a dear friend!) How do we manage this fine line of being the pastor’s wife and all of the other hats that we’ve chosen or have been placed upon us? It is only with God’s help we can accomplish this. Yes, we all want to live a life worthy of the Lord’s Glory and be a witness and role model to others. To help us endeavor to accomplish this mission this year, we will focus on the 6 habits of a Godly life. Habit defined: “A settled or regular tendency or practice, especially one that is hard to give up.” I want to be in the habit of being the best instrument of the Lord that I can be. How can this be accomplished? Talking to Him daily in prayer is a must! Prayer & Forgiveness go hand in hand in the ministry. We were forgiven when we repeated and gave our hearts to the Lord. We must pray in order to hear from the Lord. We must forgive so that we can be forgiven. It’s a cycle…pray, listen, forgive, repeat…… The Lord’s Prayer or Psalm 23 are great places to gather strength, insight and rest. These are great words to whisper before our feet hit the floor in the morning, before our eyes close for slumber. I encourage you to carve out some time each day to spend with the Lord in quiet prayer. Remember as you pray, listen to His voice. Prayer is a dialogue, not a monologue. My prayer for myself and the fine ladies of this conference is: Lord, help us continue to be the best examples of Christ’s love by leading Godly lives with the most powerful habits! As Ephesians 4:32 states, “Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other just as Christ forgave you” is one of my favorites for when I need that reminder myself.
