One of the decisions taken at these meetings was the institution of an international palaeobotanical newsletter. It should aim at facilitating contacts be- tween palaeobotanists in different parts of the world, and it should cover and promote all branches of palaeobotany. The editing of the IOP Newsletter was entrusted to the Secretary General, and it was decided that the annual subscription fee to the IOP and its Newsletter should be $US. 4.00, largely t o cover pro- duction and mailing of at least two issues. The Newsletter will contain reports on current re- search activities and on meetings held, together with announcements of forthcoming meetings in palaeo- botany. It will also contain reviews of major palaeo- botanical publications of general interest. Much em- phasis will be placed on current bibliography, and it is the editor’s intention to supply annual lists emanating from his current work on the Bibliography and Index of Palaeobotany and Palynology as far as feasible within the Newsletter’s self-cost basis. Requests for fossil material, announcements of collection deposi- tories and requests for older books and reprints will be included. Do this im- mediately on receipt of this presentation - from the initiation of this service the efficiency depends on a broad response from the palaeobotanical community!

This is a new newsletter service, with the first issue due to appear in 1976. Contributions are invited from all branches of palaeobotany, expressly including the entire range of palynology.

During the XI1 International Botanical Congress in Leningrad in 1975 the IOP held two meetings at the Gorkij House of Scientists. A new Executive Com- mittee was elected, consisting of the President, Dr. James M. Schopf of Columbus, Ohio, U.S.A., the Vice- President, Dr. E. Boureau of Paris, France, and the Secretary General, Dr. Hans Tralau of Stockholm, Sweden.

I t will also contain reviews of major palaeo- botanical publications of general interest.
