CAUTIONS AND WARNINGS—Before running the InVue® BT128 refractometer, heed

the following:

CAUTION: The InVue BT128 is a sensitive electronic device. Rough handling may cause damage. Do not drop.

WARNING:

• The supplied USB isolator needs to be installed between the BT128 and a computer. This will eliminate potential damage to the BT128 from ground loops.

• Touching live electrical parts can cause fatal shocks and severe burns. Incorrectly installed or improperly grounded equipment is a hazard. Do not touch live electrical parts.

• Properly ground the system before use. Plug the power supply into a properly wired receptacle.

• Follow local electrical codes and the guidelines when installing the BT128. Failure to do so may create an electrical shock hazard. Shock hazards can exist even when equipment is properly installed. The operator should be properly trained and follow established safety practices.

SAFE DISPOSAL—When disposing of any component of the BT128

refractometer, observe the local and national

requirements for the disposal of electrical and

electronic equipment.

OVERVIEW—The Entegris InVue BT128 refractometer is an opti-

cally-based, refractive index metrology solution that

provides exacting and immediate results for single-

sample concentration measurements of solutions

in a benchtop setting. The BT128 (and the included

software) enable user-friendly, real-time information

and can also be utilized to determine process fluid

calibration for use with the Entegris in-line monitoring

devices. Utilizing the index of refraction technology

(IoR) of the BT128 provides a measurement solution

that is not affected by turbidity, diffraction and absor-

ption of light in the sample, or a solution's acidic or

electric properties.

UNPACKING

• Unpack all components of the BT128

• Ensure the following components are present:

– BT128 unit

– Power supply

– Software

– RS485 isolator

– USB cables (2)

INSTALLING BT128

The sensor is a table-top module and can be

installed on any flat, even surface with the

required available space.

CONNECTING POWER

• Connect the RS485 isolator and USB cables as

shown below.

CRITICAL: The isolator (tan box) helps prevent a ground loop to the unit. It must be connected to prevent damage to the BT128 unit.

• Plug power supply in to BT128 unit.

• Turn the unit on using switch on back of device.

INSTALLING THE BT128 SOFTWARE—

HARDWARE DEVICE DRIVER DOWNLOAD

Communication between the BT128 unit and

128-connect software is established via a RS485

to USB converted connection.

IMPORTANT: Device drivers must be set up or communication issues may arise.

• Power on the BT128.

• Plug the USB cable in to the PC. Wait until Windows

completes the driver installations.

NOTE: If the PC does not have the appropriate drivers, Windows will attempt to download automatically from the internet. If the computer does not have internet ac- cess, the two separate drivers can be downloaded from: http://www.ftdichip.com/Drivers/CDM/CDM21218 _Setup.zip http://accesio.com/files/packages/USB-COM-2SM %20Install.exe

SOFTWARE DOWNLOAD AND INSTALLATION

• Download the software:

– Run the 128-connect installation program found

on www.entegris.com (go to the InVue BT128

product page where you will find a link to access

the software).

NOTE: Prior to downloading the software for the first time, a user profile needs to be completed and approved.

• Run the installer:

– Follow the on-screen instructions for installation

of the software.

– The installer program outputs an icon for “InVue®

BT128 Connect” on the desktop and creates a

default data storage location on your computer’s

hard drive.

UNIT OPERATION—

START UP

• If not on already, power on the BT128.

• Start the BT128 software by clicking on the

“InVue® BT128 Connect” icon.

• The software will now perform a 15 minute warmup

period of the BT128.

LOG IN TO SOFTWARE

• The software is password protected for various

levels of users.

• Log in to the software by clicking the LOGIN button.

• Use one of the following passwords:

– Operator mode: testop

Allows for data logging and measurement.

– Supervisor mode: testsuper

Adds the ability to recalibrate and reinitialize

the sensor.

SET UP MEASUREMENT FILE (OPTIONAL)

Users can set up a .csv measurement file to log

measurement results.

• To set up a measurement file:

– Click the MENU button.

– Select CREATE MEASUREMENT FILE from the list.

– In the resulting file dialog pop-up, navigate to a

preferred file location and name the file.

• To view the folder location of the measurement file:
