WEB, SEARCH AND DATA MINING
What is WSDM?
WSDM is the premiere worldwide forum for professionals
interested in all aspects of web, search and data mining.
The conference features work on practical yet principled
novel models of search and data mining, algorithm design
and analysis, economic implications, and in-depth
experimental analysis of accuracy and performance.
Work that emphasizes novel algorithmic approaches is
central to WSDM. Application-oriented work that makes
innovative technical contributions to research is an equally
central feature of WSDM. Visionary work on new and
emerging topics is a hallmark of the conference.
Web, search and data miningaffects us all
Major technological innovations, big shifts in society, and
tremendous economic growth are directly connected to
the area of web, search and data mining. In this
ecosystem, academic and industrial researchers,
entrepreneurs, innovators as well as governmental and
societal organizations work together. They all contribute
to the development and use of web, search and data
mining technology. And together, they affect every aspect
of our lives, from communication, health, entertainment,
and education to government and business.
It’s all about people
Each year, WSDM sees many hundreds of the top
researchers, scientists, students and entrepreneurs in the
world attend to present their latest research, solve their
hardest problems, learn new material and build their
networks. Top corporations, ranging from search engine
companies, content companies, news companies, online
vendors and technology providers to emerging companies
and startups, send employees to the WSDM conference
to present and hear the world’s most advanced
innovations in the area and to connect to talent.
The WSDM Conference
WSDM was launched in 2008 to provide the
rapidly growing web search and web data mining
community a venue of which it had full control. It
was felt that the pace of innovation in the areas of
web search and web data mining prevents proper
coverage by conferences of broader scope. The
conference launched with an emphasis on
practical but principled novel models of search and
retrieval, algorithm design and analysis,
economics implications, and in-depth experimental
analysis of accuracy and performance. First
principles, rigorous evaluation, best practices, and
a concern for responsible use of the technology
have always characterized the conference. 2017
marks the 10-th edition of WSDM.
Sponsorship of WSDM 2017 brings visibility to some of
the top minds on the planet. WSDM is the place to
connect to talent, to meet, influence and learn from the
top scientists, researchers, developers, teachers and
entrepreneurs building tomorrow’s web, search and data
mining technologies.
