INVENT was founded in the mid-1980s by a group of fluid mechanicsexperts, as a spin-off from thedepartment of Fluid Mechanics at theFriedrich-Alexander University inErlangen-Nuremberg.

INVENT ’s involvement in theenvironmental field began in 1995with the launch of its hyperboloidmixer technology for applications inwater and wastewater treatment.

INVENT Umwelt- und Verfahrens-techn ik AG in its current organisationoriginated in 1995 as a result of amanagement buy-out. In 2003, itbecame a stock-holding company(AG). Since 2004, INVENT has hada presence in the USA with a sub-sidiary company.

When implementing an INVENTsystem solution, INVENT takescare of the basic and detailed en-gineering, the project management,delivery, installation andcommissioning of the plant, andtrains the operating personnel.

INVENT’s Engineering & ConsultingServices carry out fluid mechanicalinvestigations of, for example,mixing and equalisation basins,flow splitters, activated sludgetanks, clarifiers and similar con-structions. In these investigations,analytical, experimental or numericmethods are used as required.

In addition, INVENT offers a rangeof software tools to assistdesigners and operators in theirstatic dimensioning or dynamicsimulation of wastewater treatmentplants.

INVENT became known in the early1990s with the development andlaunch of its energy-saving hyper-boloid mixing technology forwastewater treatment. The INVENTHYPERCLASSIC ® -Mixing andAeration System has in the mean-time been globally successful,and in many markets is alreadyregarded as the standard forvertical mixers.

Today INVENT offers a wide rangeof mixers for all applications inwater and wastewater treatment.

In the area of Aeration Technology,INVENT offers a series of mem-brane aeration systems for thebiological treatment of wastewater.The various systems have beendeveloped and optimized fordifferent municipal and industrialapplications. They differ in theirareas of application, their designs,and the different materials used intheir construction. As a result, weare always in a position to offer anoptimal solution for your aerationneeds.

An INVENT System Solution comprisescarefully selected and designedtechnical components, which com-bine to form a secure and efficientinstallation.

No two aeration system applicationsare the same. The requirements ofaeration systems are therefore quitediverse, and cannot be satisfied witha single design of aeration system.

Important determining factors includethe composition of the wastewater,the oxygen requirement, the depthof the water, climatic conditions, thechoice of process etc. These para-meters have a decisive influence onthe choice of aeration system.

The TEX-FLEX® -aerationsystem, an extremely robustmembrane aeration system thatproduces medium-sizedbubbles. It is based on avirtually indestructible fabricmembrane, and has proveditself especially in deep waterand demanding applications.

The CBA -aeration system is acoarse-bubble aeration system,constructed entirely out ofstainless steel. It isindestructible, and wasdeveloped specially for use inmoving-bed reactors.

As well as these standard solutions,we offer additional tailoredsolutions: for example, all E -F LEX®

and S IL IKOFLEX® -membraneaeration systems can also besupplied as removable systems. Thiscould, for example, be suitable forupgrades to carousel basins. In thiscase, several E -F LEX® -aerationgrids would be mounted together ona removable framework. Thisproduces compact units that caneasily be lifted in and out.

A complete system solution fromINVENT comprises, depending onthe customer’s requirements, thebasic and detailed engineering,project management, delivery of themechanical components, installationof the plant, and training of plantpersonnel.

The mechanical components, suchas mixers, aeration systems, pumps,blowers, armatures and instrumen-tation, control and automationsystems, are carefully selected foran INVENT system solution, andcoordinated with each other.

INVENT takes responsibility for theentire scope of the delivery. Thisapproach reduces the number ofinterfaces and potential sources offailure.

As a result of the exceptionalsuitability of the HYPERCLASSIC ® -mixing and aeration system forSequencing Batch Reactor plants,we have more than 15 years ofexperience and considerable know-how in this field. For this reason,we offer SBR plants as an INVENTsystem solution. In this case, wealso supply a special clean-waterdecanting system and a cyclestrategy that is tailored to theindividual application.

In the field of construction of SBRplants, INVENT has carried outprojects for the most varied appli-cations. These include municipalwastewater treatment, andnumerous industrial applications infields such as brewing, the chemi-cal industry, the pharmaceuticalindustry, refineries, and the foodand drinks industry.

In the municipal field, INVENT hasnumerous references round theworld, starting from small andmedium-sized plants all the way upto large municipal sewage treatmentplants. We have specialist know-how for the treatment of wastewaterfrom the fermentation of biowaste.

There is a further INVENT standardsolution for so-called pool purifi-cation plants. For that kind ofwastewater treatment plant, wesupply floating aeration systems,floating mixers, and a speciallydeveloped clarifier cleaning system.In this field too, INVENT hasextensive know-how and manyyears of experience.

In particular, the mechan i ca leng ineer ing area comprises – apartfrom design contracts – optimizationof components and static analysis,using the finite element method(FEM). Modern 2D and 3D softwarepackages are used as design tools.In this way, even sophisticateddesign tasks can be economicallyexecuted.

The service package for „F lu idMechan i cs“ is seamless. Due tothe use of 3D design tools, newlydeveloped parts go through arange of fluid mechanical testswithout delay. INVENT offers twoprocedures. One of which isdirectly performed in INVENT 'sfluid dynamics laboratory, via

rap id prototyp ing , where the mostmodern laser and ultrasonicmeasuring equipment techniques areused to determine turbulent fields ofvelocity. Here all standard methodsof measurement and visualization offlow fields are also available. Thesecond procedure involves individualinterfaces to high performance CFD-programes ( computat iona l f lu iddynamics ) for the numericalsimulation of flow on the computer.When used in combination, thesehighly modern methods offeran almost unlimited variety ofpossibilities, such as:

The development andoptimization of components(e.g. mixers, impellers, gatevalves, reactors, etc.)

The optimization of st ruc tures(e.g. activated sludge tanks,stirred tank reactors, mixingchambers, flow splitters,pumping stations, finalsedimentation tanks, etc.)

The measur ing of turbulent flowfields, using laser and ultra-sonic measuring equipment tech-niques, either as a model, intechnical scale or in large scale

s imu lat ion of complex flows(e.g. drinking water filters, finalsedimentation tanks, activatedsludge tanks, distributionchannels, etc.) using CFD.

The opt imizat ion of p lants is anotherinnovative INVENT service. Anincrease in efficiency of only a fewpercent can in many circumstanceslead to a significant savings in costs,and therefore an overall improve-ment of the company's results.

Our standard offer is composedof ANAwin and Capdet , twointernationally proven layoutprograms for static dimensioning,as well as GPS-X , the world'sleading sof tware package for thedynamic simulation of wastewatertreatment plants. Additionally, weoffer special solutions to customdesign components such as mixers,aeration systems, pipe work orother components.

Our extensive experience indeveloping software solutionsenables us to develop and supplypackages, which can be integratedinto a Customer RelationshipManagement (CRM) system.

For the material processing industry,the sof tware package “IMPT2” hasbeen developed for lay ing out mix ingtank reactors. This software comprisesall practicable mixing tasks (includingmicro-mixing) and mixers. It can alsobe extended into a specializedsystem and can be supplied withinterfaces to all current CFD programs.

At our headquarters in Erlangen,INVENT carries out research innumerous fields. In our fluidmechanics laboratory, we can carryout experiments to laboratory andtechnical standards, in order todevelop and optimize our products.

For this work, the latest measuringtechniques, such as Laser DopplerAnemometry (LDA) and UltrasoundDoppler Anemometry (UDA) are atour disposal.

In addition to these experimentalmethods, the latest computer-aidedconstruction and simulation tools areused.

INVENT understands that researchand development are the basis forthe continual improvement of ourproducts and processes.

All INVENT products and processeshave been developed in-houseusing methods from the latest fluidmechanics theories. During thisprocess, we cover all stages our-selves, from conception throughmodelling, scale-up and full-sizetesting. Partial co-operation withuniversity research institutes ensuresthat we can optimize our efforts inall areas of research.

The findings from the laboratoryand pilot tests are transferred by ourengineers to full scale using specialscaling-up methods. For the vali-dation of these scaling-up calcu-lations, various types of large-scaletest equipment are available.

For example, in Erlangen wemaintain a mixer test rig in whichmixers with shafts up to 8m longcan be mounted. For aeration testsand mixer experiments, we have atank more than 10m in diameter,with a maximum water depth ofmore than 8m.
