INTRODUCTION TO PROJECT:

In this project, we are tasked to commence a small

construction project in Taylor’s University Lakeside

Campus. We are to use a land area of about

10mx10m anywhere on campus ground.

As we have decided to construct a rest area, the

small project that we are commencing is the

construction of a Taxi Stand. The construction of

this project will take place at an empty space

beside the Food Arena food court. A 10mx10m

area will be taken from that open space.

1969 as a college, was awarded university college

status in 2006, and university status in 2010.

Taylor's University offers courses in tertiary

education, from foundation and diploma to degree,

post-graduate and professional programmes.

The Lakeside Campus houses all existing tertiary

programmes under one roof. Set on 27 acres of

tropical greenery near Jalan PJS 7/5, the campus is

surrounded by a revived 5.5 acre man-made lake,

as well as a landscape of water plants, trees and

flowering shrubs, and groundcover that provides a

rich and stimulating natural environment in the

neighbourhood.

SITE ANALYSIS:

The site that is selected to construct this Taxi

Stand located at the open space beside Arena Food

Court which is located inside the commercial block

of TAYLORS UNIVERSITY LAKESIDE CAMPUS.

The open space beside the food court measures

approximately 30x100m and to construct this taxi

stand, only 10mx10m of the entire space will be

used. This is to ensure that the open space is not

completely affected to maintain its aesthetics.

The site is covered by glass roofing and the floor is

covered with masonry flooring. There is also a 24-

hour security office nearby for safety.

Commercial activities include the buying and

selling of goods and services in retail businesses,

wholesale buying and selling, financial

establishments, and wide variety of services that

are broadly classified as "business".

Even though commercial activities use only a

small amount of land, they are extremely

important to a community’s economy.

Some examples of commercial area buildings

include the following:

Bank Gas station

Grocery store

Movie theatre

Office

buildings

Restaurant

Shopping mall

THE TAXI STAND

This is a revolutionary taxi stand that offers a

waiting /resting lounge, office space, lavatory and

also gadget charging stations for all mobile

devices. This is the result of incorporating universal

language and modern technology.

Electrical and lighting systems are assembled

within the installation floor, which is hidden,

between ceiling and the roof that can help improve

its aesthetic value. Other than that there is a

system that is in place to collect rainwater and use

it within the infrastructure.

PURPOSE AND CONCEPT

10

Page 11: Introduction to construction landscape

TAYLORS UNIVERSITY ICI FINAL PROJECT

The aim of constructing this taxi stand is to allow

people to wait for their taxi at the commercial

block in a more comfortable and stylish manner as

there is a choice of sitting in the modern designed

air-conditioned waiting lounge or the non-air-

conditioned lounge.

Continuously, the taxi stand also has a mini

vertical garden that serves it purpose to help

improve the environment. Not only that, this taxi

stand also offers taxi-booking services to ease the

amount of waiting time. Other than that, the taxi

stand also has a gadget charging station for all

mobile devices.

As mentioned above, this project will be

constructed at the commercial block. Since the

commercial has many people coming in and out, it

will make a huge amount of difference for the

people that are frequently traveling by taxi and will

make a perfect resting area for not only the

passengers but also for the taxi drivers.

MATERIALS

1)Recycled steel

14

Page 15: Introduction to construction landscape

TAYLORS UNIVERSITY ICI FINAL PROJECT

Recycling steel reduces the consumption of other

valuable resources. Every ton of recycled steel

saves 1.5 tons of iron ore, .5 tons of coal and 40

percent of the water normally used in the

production process

2) Recycled Wood/Plastic Composite Lumber

15

Page 16: Introduction to construction landscape

TAYLORS UNIVERSITY ICI FINAL PROJECT

Composite lumber is a material that is a mixture

of wood fiber, plastic, and some type of binding

agent. These ingredients are put together to form

a material that is denser, stronger, and heavier

than wood alone, a wood-plastic composite.

3)Low-E Glass

16

Page 17: Introduction to construction landscape

TAYLORS UNIVERSITY ICI FINAL PROJECT

The "E" in low-E stands for emissivity, and a clear

coating of metallic oxide on these windows keeps

the heat inside the house in the winter and outside

in the summer.

4)LED Lights

17

Page 18: Introduction to construction landscape

TAYLORS UNIVERSITY ICI FINAL PROJECT

An LED lamp is a light-emitting diode (LED) product

that is assembled into a lamp (or light bulb) for use

in lighting fixtures. LED lamps have a lifespan

and electrical efficiency that is several times better

than incandescent lamps, and significantly better

than most fluorescent lamps, with some chips able

to emit more than 100 lumens per watt.

TAYLORS UNIVERSITY ICI FINAL PROJECT

In conclusion, the taxi stand is very convenient for

the people in tailors lakeside university especially

when public holiday and Sunday. The people who

want to take a taxi can wait in comfort and style.

Although it is just 10m x 10m but it already help

the people a lot in terms of time saving and rest.

Also, people can charge their mobile devices and

be at ease. We hope that by constructing this taxi

stand, we can help reduce the burden of the

people in Taylor’s lakeside university and make it a

better place for people to visit and be known as a

world-class education hub.
