Internal Structure of Eye

• Students will Learn about internal structure of the eye.

• They will differentiate each structure according to it’s function.

• They will read every part of the eye with respect to its work.

• They will be able to tell about the effects of light on eye by the end of this unit.

Unit Summary• The vision is a complex mechanism. The eye is a complex organ composed of many

parts. Good vision depends on the way in which those parts work together. It is helpful to understand how the eye works.

• The function of eye helps to see things around us clearly. Being a science teacher this unit is about brief description of human eye and How do eyes work? By the end of this unit, It is expected that students will be able to tell about the mechanism of vision.

• Students can make models of the human eye to better understand the function of eye. The students are assuming the role of an ophthalmologist to explain the function and structure of an eye to the audience through models, charts and even through presentation.

Following 21st century skills are targeted in this unit.• Creativity and innovation.

• Critical thinking& problem solving.

• Communication & collaboration.

• Information media and technology skills.

THE HUMAN EYE

We are able to see because light from an object can move through space and reach our eyes. Once light reaches our eyes, signals are sent to our brain, and our brain deciphers the information in order to detect the appearance, location and movement of the objects we are sighting at. The whole process, as complex as it is, would not be possible if it were not for the presence of light. Without light, there would be no sight. The human eye is the organ which gives us the sense of sight, allowing us to learn more about the surrounding world than any of the other five senses.

The eyeball is set in a protective cone-shaped cavity in the skull called the orbit or socket and measures approximately one inch in diameter. The orbit is surrounded by layers of soft, fatty tissue which protect the eye and enable it to turn easily.
