Investigative Report

Introduction• PepsiCo is a multi-billion dollar food and beverage

corporation based in the United States. Its subsidiaries include Pepsi, Aquafina, Quaker Oats, Gatorade, Frito-Lay, Lipton, Mountain Dew, among many others. As of 2012, each line of products generated more than $1 billion each, and the products were sold in over 200 countries.

All these and many more!

Presence on Campus• PepsiCo has a thick presence

at Salt Lake Community College. Nearly all the vending machines on campus were provided by PepsiCo or one of its subsidiaries.

Presence on SLCC Campus• PepsiCo offers a scholarship named “Pepsi Generation

Excellence Cash Award” to SLCC students.• Also, logos and pictures of PepsiCo products appear on

advertisements throughout the campus

The Problem• The choice of snacks in vending machines is limited to

PepsiCo products.

Target Audience• Youth are targeted by

PepsiCo’s advertisements. Their products appeal to a younger crowd including college students who are likely to snack during the day.

Affects students and school faculty

When students or faculty want a quick snack and can’t leave the campus they have to choose a product of PepsiCo

Positive Negative

There is always a variety of PepsiCo’s products stocked in the vending machines for students and faculty to choose from

Conclusion• PepsiCo controls what products will be sold in the vending

machines. Although the choice of snacks in vending machines is limited, Pepsi provides students and school faculty with an array of snacks. Pepsi also gives back to the students by offering scholarships. All in all, PepsiCo is a good sponsor of Salt Lake Community College.
