INTERVENTION 2

Ben and Leonie

Page 2: Intervention 2

WALKING BACKWARDS What do you notice about the world

around you? Certain things caught your eye and stood

out more than normally do on walks to campus, e.g. Curry houses for Ben.

How do you feel? Pretty stupid, quite uncertain on my feet,

unsure of what was behind, nervous at times, required a lot of trust. Felt like you were walking fast but actually partner felt like it was slower than normal pace.

How do pedestrians respond? Majority of people seemed unfazed, just

clearly moved around us whereas when walking forward you normally both move out of each others way. A couple of funny looks but nothing majorly out of the ordinary

STANDING ON A STREET CORNER - BEN

What did you notice? The noise of the cars, the beeping of the

pedestrian crossing, a lot of overtaking in rush hour traffic.

How did you feel? Relaxed, wet, time felt slow, spent time

thinking about curry I planned to buy later, didn’t really concentrate on how I may have look to other people

How did people respond? I was an obstacle to people, they avoided

me/went round me.

STANDING ON A STREET CORNER - LEONIE

What did you notice? A lot of cars, busy rush hour, Heeley Road take a

while to pull out of. Noticed the weather a lot as it was really wet.

How do you feel? Quite weird, a bit self conscious but generally just

spent time watching the cars drive past How did people respond? One driver signalled for me to cross the road,

which was awkward to try and ignore. Most people just carried on walking or driving past without noticing.

People didn’t see you standing there for the whole time so it wasn’t as odd as they drove/walked past.
