Conventionnal Slickline
Benefits— Small footprint, mechanical integrity, logistical
simplicity, operational efficiency, cost effectiveness.
Limitations— Downhole tool capability / activation, Depth control,
Memory based
Digital Slickline
Real time telemetry— Access to wellbore information & send command from
Surface.
— Depth Control / Activation of Advanced tool
Without compromising— Operational efficiency (minor set up modification )
— Functionality (Jarring, speed, Sealing)

Mechanical integrity of coated cable is not
compromising operational efficiency and
functionality:
- Std Sealing - Running speed / jarring capability
/ safe operation / environment.
- Low surface voltage - Does not need Zone II
pressurized equipment
Creating operational constrain and limitation;
– Grease injection - affecting running
speed / Jar capability. Logistic, rig up
height, environment (leak, contamination)
– Risk of stranded wire/ bird cage requiring
complex fishing.
– Heavy wire (logistic)
– High Voltage - Additional pressurized
cabin

K5-D3: Reason for Choosing DSL
7
* Naturally Occurring Radioactive Material
Overall situation
Southern North Sea, Dutch Sector, Operated by Total
Platform crane weight limitation < 5tons
Limited deck space (simultaneous operations)
Unmanned Platform
Need for accuracy while perforating
Well NORM* classified
Weather condition – flight limitation
Conventional perforating option would have been :
– SLK (Dummy and protection sleeve) Electric line for Perforation
– SLK with Efire with possible extra correlation runs

K5-D3: Operation Program and Toolstring
Well condition
– BHT 125°C, BHP 207 bar, Gas well, 2% CO2, No H2S, dev 54Deg, Perforation depth: 4827m.
Charge used
– 2in HSD Power Jet Omega, D-TrigII (with Secure2 detonator)
– Gun length 6m Max / run due to deck space limitation (Surface logistics)
7 perforations runs
– Set / retrieve protection sleeve every day
– Dummy Run 4858m
– Punch Zone 1 - 4827m (1 Runs)
– Perforate Zone 1 - 4827m (2 runs – 9m)
– Perforate Zone 2 - 4814m (4 runs - 20m)

K5-D3: Job Results
Job results:
Job successful – perforation on Depth
No NORM residue on cable.
Positive indication from surface
Highlights:
All perforation (29m) within 0.15m accuracy.
12 m / 300 lbs T/String compatible with 0.125” SWL.
2 run per days Running speed up > 250 m/min
Robust and reliable telemetry @ 4827m (15,836ft)
Operation completed with only SLK (DSL) no E-Line required.
Learnings:
Mis-run due to swollen boot due to CO2 – Changing material
Battery disconnection due to shock – Re log perf interval.
- Increasing spring contactor
