Innovative Modular Schools
Interserve’s new PodSolve concept allows for the provision of high quality teaching accommodation with truly competitive build costs and reduced installation periods. It can help to ensure that Britains children continue to benefit from improvements in the school learning environment, offering local authorities and academies a cost effective option regardless of the funding pressures they are under. It provides a series of steel and glass classroom pods that can be easily connected to create a modern, fully flexible school learning environment. The PodSolve school is environmentally friendly, with photovoltaic panels, a well-sealed, well-insulated building, a combined heat and power plant and lighting control systems.

The beauty of an organisation
such as Interserve is that they are
able to provide the whole range of
services. An organisation that I
consider to be one of our strategic
partners and of course there are
also some very significant
value-for-money advantages
associated with having a single
contract rather than up to the 30 or
so we had previously.

I have been able to witness the operation of IES (Interserve
Engineering Services) on a new development for Monkhill
Confectionary at Pontefract. This project involved the
replacement of a facility following an extensive fire and
required a diligent and pro active contractor that could
work within tight quality parameters and programme
restraints. IES were appointed and demonstrated that with
these values and a team of engineers with the same ethos
they were able to deliver a successful contract.

The residential contracts that Interserve have been involved
with have ranged from small one-off projects from six luxury flats
in Pall Mall (£3m) Albert Bridge House (£12m) and
Richmond Bridge (£5.4m), in latter of which was gated
community providing 268 luxury flats and homes, with all the
modern technology and security that would be expected of such
prestigious schemes. Interserve have again and again been found
to be an important technical asset to the professional
team particular in the early planning and design stages of all of
our residential schemes. In our view Interserve are one of the
most important contractors to have on board from the outset of
a project. With Interserve’s knowledge and experience we have
always treated Interserve as a favoured contractor for the M&E
contracts with line provision that if their package was
uncompetitive or if we were not able to negotiate a
satisfactory price that we could re-tender the whole package
using their designs and information. It is a testimony to
Interserve’s abilities that we have always used Interserve as the
main M&E Contractor. David AshcroftManaging Director Delta Group

Due to the critical nature of the works
Interserve Engineering Services were
integrated into the project team at the
earliest stage, in order to provide their
design and build advice. A critical aspect
of the scheme was to ensure that the
project was handed over defect free and
as smoothly as possible. Their
continued 12 month support and
aftercare to the Barclays Maintenance
Team was superb and enabled us to get
the most out of our operational
facility.David FletcherBarclays Data Centre Director

Innovation and Added ValueBuilding on BIM
Interserve are at the forefront of implementing
Building Information Modelling (BIM) at all stages
of the project life cycle. BIM is a collaborative
process designed to improve quality, sustainability
and eliminate much of the waste that is inherited
in traditional design-build operate processes. It
creates a shared knowledge resource that
integrates a virtual representation of the building.
Interserve have specialist knowledge of 3D
modelling, and are working towards 4D (time),
5D (cost), 6D (FM) and beyond. We use BIM to
add real value to a project and extend its use far
beyond presentation and visualisation.
Schemes with West Yorkshire Police Authority
c.£23. M&E, and the new £multi-million contract
with Jaguar Land Rover are designed with Revitt &
BIM in mind.
Off-site ManufacturingInterserve has been involved with the development and use
of modular construction techniques for over 12 years across
a variety of sectors. Proven benefits of off-site
manufacturing techniques include accelerated
construction process, improved build quality and
sustainability advantages such as reduced material waste,
reduced site disturbance, greater flexibility and reuse,
and improved air quality. Our experience has allowed us
to perfect our controls, processes and procedures - all of
which are carried out in accordance with our fully accredited
ISO9001 Quality Management System.
Our experience in modular manufacturing includes:
• Flexible learning environments, e.g. Pods
• Amenity modules
• Plant and boiler modules
• Modular construction on restricted sites
• Service modules for corridors, risers and
floor voids
