The IWCZ is an Association set up specifically to provide sup-port and assistance to women who come to live in Croatia. Our membership represents an important part of the foreign com-munity in Zagreb and includes women of many nationalities who are in Croatia for professional or personal/family reasons, temporary or for an indefinite period. IWCZ membership also allows for 25 per cent of Croatian membership. The Association is very active and has open door policy at our monthly gen-eral meetings for new prospective members to come and meet for the first time.

LETTER FROM THE BOARDJasenka Bohaček Knežević

Many countries celebrate Easter in more or less the same way. We all know about Holy Week, Easter Eggs, the Easter Bunny, tradi-

tional Easter menu... However, there is something that you will only find in Croatia: Dalmatian's traditional custom of ŽUDIJE (mean-ing "jews").

Žudije are the twelve guards of Christ's tomb, led by their commander, the 13th in the group, called Juda. They are dressed in uniforms of Roman soldiers and have strict rules to follow.

They start on Holy Thursday and stand guard by the altar in shifts until Holy Saturday. At midnight, during Easter Vigil (night between Holy Saturday and Easter Sunday), they sing "Gloria" and shout "Jesus has risen" before falling to the ground upon hearing bells announc-ing the resurrection of Christ during the Holy Mass.

Easter morning is there, families go to the mass with baskets full of ham, eggs, leek, homemade bread, and horseradish to get it blessed for the Easter breakfast.

Other parts of Croatia have very specific customs: Hvar has the Procession of the Cross, Dubrovnik has Neđelja (Sunday) of pomelo (woven palm branches), some parts eat "pinca" cake, Vinkovci has corn cookies, Gorski kotar has Easter Bonfires, and many more that you shall find for yourself.

Designer Vedrana Šehagić opened her fashion boutique FOCH in the center of Zagreb on March 11th 2016.

Her fashion symbolizes busi-ness casual style for the urban woman.

Vedrana Šehagić graduated from Textile Technology University of Zagreb. As a student, she worked with a French manufacturer special-izing in ecological fur. Due to her great success, she

started her own business in 2010 under her own Croatian brand Avenue Foch Paris, sold in Croatia and the region and Paris.

Over a year, Foch became a respectable brand based on an international cooperation

– Croatian design, Italian and Greek production, and supe-rior fabrics from Europe. Foch is today present in 40 stores all over Croatia and the region.

Vedrana Šehagić has been in many competitions; in 2011 she won 1st prize at the Triumph Inspiration Award. She has also cooperated with others where collections evolved into big names.

She is one of 12 youngest entre-preneurs in Croatia.

Dear Ladies,

In the end of February we visited a great Dimitrije Popovic retrospective and we had the honour that our exhi-bition tour were conducted by the artist himself.Retrospective of this versatile artist of international reputation and the winner of numerous awards and recog-nitions - Dimitrije Popovic impressed us more than we expected.The renowned Croatian artist with some 60 solo exhibitions at home and abroad and many awards and pictures in many European collections, this retrospective is the first time presents in its diversity as well as the integ-rity of its distinctive creativity: from drawings, posters, prints and paintings to assemblage sculptures / objects, installations, performances and publications. This exhibition gave us a section through all phases of the artist's extremely fertile creativity of the first works till today.On the three floors of the Klovićevi yard present segments of Dimitrijevih famous cycle: Eros and Thanatos, Omaggio a Leonardo, Judith, Omaggio a Dante, Marilyn Monroe, body and space, Corpus MYSTICUM, Magdalena, Ole Dali, Ave Mantegna, Allegories of Arcadia Kafka and Salome .Once again many thanks to academic painter Mr. Popovic and you respected member of the club IWCZ for graced this exhibition with your presence.

Fantastic concert by Arsen Dalibaltayan, great lunch, warm welcome resulted with 5.000 kuna raised for "OZANA". H. E. Ambassador Estermann and Mrs Petra Estermann showed their hospitality and supported this charitable event in Swiss Residence. Thank You!

A MATINEE CHARITY EVENT BY IWCZ & HNK

SWAN LAKE FINAL REHEARSALA joint initiative between the IWCZ and the Croatian National Theatre that took place on the 16th of March, this matinee charity event was organized with the intend to help the Dance studio Brodski leptirići from Slavonskia Brod, whose work has been recognized has being of great importance towards dance educa-tion in the region, promoting, developing, and improving individual and group activities for children and young adults.

A total of 9.200 kuna were raised from ticket sales alone and all proceeds will revert to the dance studio.

The Italian Ambassador’s wife Ilda Chiodi with the Italian ladies are happy to host a lunch with typical Italian dishes.During the lunch, Antonela Malis will delight the guests with Italian songs.

The beneficiary of the event is the International Foundation "Il Giardino delle Rose Blu" which was founded in 2008 by don Ermanno D'Onofrio, an Italian priest, family consultant and expert in psychology and psych diagnostics.

The Foundation, has a Permanent Camp at the Special Hospital for Children with Chronic Diseases in Croatia, in the city of Gornja Bistra. Numerous volunteers, most of whom come directly from Italy, assist the patients of the hospital with educational activities. To be able to continue to help and support the chil-dren of the hospital, the volunteers are in desperate need to restore their quarters. All volunteers, Croatian and Italian, spend at least a week in the structure, which is currently in a very poor condition and urgently needs restructuring. With your help we would like to give the volunteers a more dignified and safe living condition, so that they can better help the children of the hospital.

The Special Hospital for Children with Chronic Diseases in Gornja Bistra, admits children under the age of 18 and currently there are 110 patients treated for various diseases, from the central nervous system diseases to glandular imbalance, metabolic and other disturbances needing continuous support from doctors and volunteers.
